Smartphones are becoming increasingly important in our lives and accompany us almost everywhere. It has thus become possible to ask the device for directions, check email, spend time playing video games or simply surf the Internet.
In the following study we would like to scientifically assess, how often people are actually using their mobile phones. When do we go online for the first time a day, when do we first check for new email and when do we receive the first call? Additionally, it is the aim of the study to find out how differences in smartphone usage can be explained. In this context we would like to take into account classic self-report inventories from personality psychology (e.g. recording the self-perceived anxiety or sociability). More specifically, the phone shall ask questions from short versions of scales for personality assessment from personality psychology (e.g. "I am anxious" with possible answers ranging from "agree strongly" to "disagree strongly").
These single items will appear on the screen to very manageable extent (not more than one item per day). You can, of course, dismiss the request.
Because your smartphone contains very private information, we would like to explain, what information the software stores and which it does not. It does not record any personal content from emails, SMS or chat messengers (e.g. WhatsApp). Of course it does not record, what internet addresses you visit or with whom you are talking over the phone. We are interested in quantitative variables - how long are you online per day, when do you look on the phone for the last time in the evening and how big is your social network (how many different phone numbers are there, but not what phone numbers are in your phone book)? Quantitatively, this means further, that content or email with regard to the size of your vocabulary can be assessed and be sent to our servers (e.g. vocabulary is made up of 3430 words). Again: it is not possible to gain any knowledge about the original email's content from this information. Subsequently, we elucidate what information we record, what the study's design looks like and how we secure your data.

Insightful. But one tends 'routinize' it too after a while. I like the mood check; makes me reflect on my mood changes. Developers - a feedback - the mood slider is limiting as it does take into account moods such as anger, worry, etc.

Like this idea and the app itself is nice. Hoping it works on my G3. But it has not been updated since i had my electrify M 2 years ago and only thing working then was app usage. No sms and call or data statistics. Please update this. Or at least let us knw if u have abandoned this and ur testing. Thank you!

It's fun to see how much time you spend on your phone. App works fine. I like to compare my score to my boyfriend's at the end of the day and we can see who had been the most active during the day. However, we would have wanted the M score explained in more detail under the info button. It's very unclear how it is calculated and how it works. What does the score represent, more than just higher score = more phone usage.

This app makes me very anxious. I have no idea what the M Score means. I assume it is important given that it is the first thing you see when you start the app. Today I used my phone for only 25 minutes in total, 9 on Internet, 4 calls, 7 texts, and I unlocked my phone 5 times. But my M Score was a whopping 78! If 25 mins a day is excessive, I wonder how much other people are using their phones.

EDIT: It worked after a day a having the app installed...................................... I looked at a lot of the reviews that talked about the app not letting th e user Log in and I saw they were from a while ago, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Nope, in 2016 this app still hasn't been fixed from 2014. That is incompetence from a development stand point and should be reprimanded. Ridiculous.

I attempted to log in, reset and retry to log in multiple times. It keeps saying wrong password? I read the start up information before agreeing and it said that all information was being used for research purposes? Has the research stopped and the app no longer available? Very frustrating.

Good idea, if you can register account with them. For me it's always "Bad gateway". Tried to read additional info, which link is provided at the very end of so description. It didn't work either. Well done!
