O que é o Espiritismo, por Allan Kardec

As pessoas que não têm do Espiritismo senão um conhecimento superficial, são naturalmente levadas a fazer certas indagações, às quais um estudo completo lhes daria, sem dúvida, a solução. Mas o tempo e, freqüentemente, a vontade, lhes faltam para se consagrarem às observações continuadas. Quereriam, antes de empreender essa tarefa, saber ao menos do que se trata e se vale a pena dela se ocuparem. Pareceu-nos útil, pois, apresentar, em um quadro restrito, a resposta a algumas das questões fundamentais que nos são diariamente dirigidas. Isso será, para o leitor, uma primeira iniciação e, para nós, tempo ganho pela dispensa de repetir constantemente a mesma coisa.

O primeiro capítulo contém, sob a forma de diálogos, respostas às objeções mais comuns da parte daqueles que ignoram os primeiros fundamentos da Doutrina, assim como a refutação dos principais argumentos dos seus opositores. Essa forma nos pareceu mais conveniente, porque não tem a aridez da forma dogmática.

O segundo capítulo é consagrado à exposição sumária das partes da ciência prática e experimental, sobre as quais, na falta de uma instrução completa, o observador novato deve dirigir sua atenção para julgar com conhecimento de causa. É de alguma forma o resumo de O Livro dos Médiuns. As objeções nascem, o mais freqüentemente, de idéias falsas que são feitas, a priori, sobre o que não se conhece. Corrigir essas idéias é antecipar-se às objeções: tal é o objeto deste pequeno escrito.

O terceiro capítulo pode ser considerado como o resumo de O Livro dos Espíritos. É a solução, pela Doutrina Espírita, de um certo número de problemas do mais alto interesse de ordem psicológica, moral e filosófica, que são colocados diariamente, e aos quais nenhuma filosofia deu, ainda, soluções satisfatórias. Que se procure resolvê-los por outra teoria, e sem a chave que nos oferece o Espiritismo, e ver-se-á que elas são as respostas mais lógicas e que melhor satisfazem à razão.

Este resumo não é somente útil para os iniciantes que poderão nele, em pouco tempo e sem muito esforço, haurir as noções mais essenciais, mas também o é para os adeptos aos quais ele fornece os meios para responder às primeiras objeções que não deixam de lhe fazer, e, de outra parte, porque aqui encontrarão reunidos, em um quadro restrito, e sob um mesmo exame, os princípios que eles não devem jamais perder de vista.

Para responder, desde agora e sumariamente, à questão formulada no título deste opúsculo, nós diremos que:

O Espiritismo é ao mesmo tempo uma ciência de observação e uma doutrina filosófica. Como ciência prática, ele consiste nas relações que se podem estabelecer com os Espíritos; como filosofia, ele compreende todas as conseqüências morais que decorrem dessas relações.

Pode-se defini-lo assim:

O Espiritismo é uma ciência que trata da natureza, da origem e da destinação dos Espíritos, e das suas relações com o mundo corporal.

What is Spiritism, by Allan Kardec

People who do not have the spiritualism but a superficial knowledge, are naturally led to do certain questions, to which a complete study would give them no doubt the solution. But time and often the will, they lack to consecrate themselves to the continued observations. They would want, before undertaking this task, at least know what it is and if it is worth it to occupy. It seemed useful, therefore, present in a restricted framework, the answer to some of the questions we are daily addressed. This will be for the reader, a first initiation and, for us, time won by dispensing constantly repeat the same thing.

The first chapter contains, in the form of dialogues, answers to common objections from those who ignore the first foundations of the doctrine, and the refutation of the main arguments of their opponents. This form seemed more appropriate to us, because it has the aridity of dogmatically.

The second chapter is devoted to a summary of the parts of practical and experimental science, on which, in the absence of a complete education, the novice observer should direct his attention to judge knowingly. It is somehow a summary of The Book of Mediums. The objections are born, most often, false ideas are made a priori about what is not known. Fix these ideas is to anticipate objections: such is the object of this little writing.

The third chapter can be considered as a summary of The Book of Spirits. It is the solution for the Doctrine of a number of problems of higher interest psychological, moral and philosophical, which are placed daily, and which no philosophy has also satisfactory solutions. To seek to resolve them by another theory, and without a key offering in Spiritualism, and will see that they are the most logical answers and better satisfy the reason.

This summary is not only useful for beginners who can it, in a short time and without much effort, draw the most essential concepts, but it is for fans to which it provides the means to answer the first objection that does not stop him do, and on the other, because here you will find assembled in a controlled environment, and under the same examination, the principles they must never lose sight of.

To answer both now and briefly, to the question raised in the title of this booklet, we will say:

Spiritualism is both a science of observation and a philosophical doctrine. As a practical science, it is the relationships that can be established with the spirits; as philosophy, he understands all the moral consequences arising from these relationships.

You can set it like this:

Spiritualism is a science that deals with the nature, origin and destination of spirits, and their relationship with the corporeal world.
