TI-58C/59 Calculator Emulator

Perfect simulation of the original, but now so much faster. Some people seem to have marked the app down for idiosyncrasies of the calculator rather than the app, which I think is a bit unfair - a good simulator should be a copy "warts and all".

Response time is much too slow

I tried 4 times to install this app on my samsung galaxy 3 and it would not install

UI is superior to Pascal's TI-59 Emulator! Haven't tried any Library Modules yet.

It sucks it doesnt even calculate I have the s3 any help?

This app brings back the good memories . I have used my TI59 in college some 35 years ago and still have it in one of the drawers. I noticed two issues in my Samsung S6, 1. When touching the display location of the calculator, a message comes up saying "Sorry, no help available for this program" and does not disappear no matter what I do. Second (2.) Issue is the soft menu button always comes up on the keys. If there a way to fix it just below display location or have the user able to select the location.

My favorite Calc. I had one of these in the early 80s. With magnetic cards. I have a problem with the latest release. I don't have any more the library of programs. Can somebody help me on this? Thanks

It made programming easy and bested the HP calculators of its time. I was one of the first to buy this machine and still have it in great condition except that the card reader needs re-conditioning. Thanks to Lawrence D'Oliveiro for bringing the joy of programming this machine back into my life.

I love this calculator! It reminds me when I was a student (my math teacher had a ti58c, I couldn't afford it!). I'm wondering if also the other libraries will be implemented/completed sooner or later or not. PS: in the meantime I tried to add some modules to the orignal library, I started with ML-02 (DETERMINANT, MATRIx. & SIMUL EQ) as I found the source code. Unluckily the emulator could have a bug as it doesn't work.

I am not talking instructions for using the TI-59, but instictions like installing modules, creating mag cards etc. A site for help and hints on using the App.

I love this calculator and sincerely appreciate the effort that went in to it. It brings back lots of memories! This last update though doesn't fill my nexus 7 screen like the previous version did. I hope we can get that back. Thanks!

Lawrence, if you're open to some simple suggestions, then consider breaking "true" emulation and make small concessions to the display. Back in the 70's the LED display technology was a huge limitation and some things that really should have been displayed were omitted. (1) A small status line to display things such as the current "2nd" and "INV" state, as well "Deg/Rad/Grad" would be incredibly useful. (2) In program mode a simple 3 character mnemonic (like "log" or "SUM" etc) could be appended to the numerical op-codes. This would greatly simplify program editing. Some purists might object to any departure from the original display, but it could be as an option.

This is NOT my favorite calculator. It IS my favorite app. (It's my 2nd favorite calc.) For a good calculator, and to answer everyone's reservations about this, get the "RealCalc" app. It does what you want. But THIS app, does even more. It's an almost perfect emulation of the Ti-58 programmable calculator. And that's what makes it so special. I can't believe how much work the author put into recreating this wondrous old machine. Here's my deal . . . I have to level some sophisticated avionics systems. I have an ultra-sensitive electronic level that reads out in tenths of a milliradian. I have to insert a shim that corrects for that deviation. So, I have a right-angle triangle with an adjacent of several inches, and an opposite of maybe .0005". Try plugging those numbers into any "triangle" app. Those apps are made for "high-school" shop class trigonomics. This app solved my problem. With a few simple "learning" key strokes, I entered a somewhat complex formula, and could convert a number that was tenths of a milliradian, directly to an appropriate shim size, with one "virtual button". The possibilities are infinite. I could write a book on how cool this app is. Perhaps I did.

My TI58c got me through high school, trade school and college but it stopped working some years ago. I missed its simple but powerful programming and was pleasantly surprised to find this app. It's a really good recreation with modern conveniences. I use it every day. Good job and thank you! Edit: It would be nice if I could input text to name the labels for my own programs just like hand writing on the blank yellow cards you inserted into the original calculator

Heh heh. I had a 58c at one time. (Plugged in the wrong AC adapter and killed it :( ...bad of TI that I could do that!) Great for nostalgia... but those old calcs were so limited and... clumsy. They are not anything to aspire returning to. [Hmmm... there was a sentence that is resistant to removing the terminal preposition. "... inspire a return whither"?]

Updated my earlier review about no save option on the Note 4, I found it and can save programs now. I had an SR56 back in the day (pre-TI58 days) and this brings back memories. Plus, I'm actually using it some.

Near perfect TI58C emulation. Even painfully counter intuitive RPN notation for those poor souls who have some quite specific fetishes, no doubt. Thank you!

I actually still have my TI-59 from high school from. It's 41 years old :)

On my 7" Samsung tablet running 4.4, I'm getting a small image of the keyboard in the center of the screen with a large black border area all around. This app would be much easier to see and use if it was expanded to a full screen image.

I've tried on different devices with the same result, if you type fast it misses the key presses frequently, otherwise this is a great emulator. Hope this problem can be fixed.

This is great! I only have an issue, i cant see the menu dots on android 4.0

Needs old library modules available also. Otherwise a very good emulator.

It's really good but how do I get to the integral and differential buttons? It's screen is small I expected to see a large screen to see steps to the answers too.

It has a real engineering mode: 100x100 = 10e3.

There's currently no indication as to whether 2nd function is engaged; it would be helpful if the display had a "2nd" symbol for when it is in use. I also think it would be more user friendly if the calculator filled the whole screen.

Needs work. First thing I do on any calc is test divide by 0. Fail here, no error msg, just 0. Clicking key sounds are obnoxious and no apparent way to silence. On Nexus 7, app grabs whole screen and only uses 50%. At least make it float. All that in one minute test. There is promise here, but not ready for prime time. I'm shooting for the moon, not cosmic debris.

Crashed within 2 mins. I had to restart note3. To get out of app.

I still have my ti59 and the printer. The print head no longer works but it makes a good desk unit. I also have most of the ti59 newsletters (with all of tips and tricks). If you would like a copy of them let me know.

03AUG2013 I love this APP. Reminds me of my first TI-30 which I think I got in High School around 1979. Doc Claridge (R.I.P.) our science teacher for two years, Physical Science and Chemistry, would not allow us to use calculators in class. We used slide rulers to calculate outputs of chemical reactions using quadratic equations as I recall.

Thank you for this excellent app. I used TI59 ca 40 y ago and surprisingly, I installed this app and susceeded to program at once. The simulation is very accurate. Also the appearance is like the original. Very good job. Thanks again for this free app.

I would love to see more programming modules. This is awesome. I had this calculator back in college and actually went through several chargers and battery packs for it.

Loving this latest update to an already awesome calc. Easier to hit/see the buttons now.
