Syrp - Genie for Android
This app is broken... I can't get it to work on my Mate 9 at all. I guess Android is too difficult for u guys to support.
Generally work ok with the mini but lacks the option to pause the timelapse.. :/
The app always freezes before I can get anything to work. The furthest I have gotten is for my camera to take 1 shot before the app freezes. Also, constant problems updating the firmware. I have tried this app on several different Nexus devices and my Pixel XL. All of them have failed to get this thing to work.
Well... with the last update of your app i am unable to use it. It crashes all the time. LG G2 user. Previous version worked fine.
I am having truble communicating with the giene mini. I have purchased the complete set. 3 axis genie but unfortunately, i cant use it because of the android app that doesn't work.
Love the geni mini..but recent updates made it strange.every time i connect it goes to update software page and says,i need to update.i had to update every time like i have already done 20-30times...now i have uninstalled the app and reinstalled it..hope it works
If u are a Samsung S6 edge or Note 4 owner, DO NOT GET this product. The Syrp genie mini is great but it is of NO USE as this app crashes as soon as you connect it to the Genie Mini. Tested it on 3 devices. Samsung S6 edge - crashed Samsung Note 4 - crashed iPad mini - ok Still waiting for a reply from support and seriously considering of returning the product for a full refund.

Why no offline setup? Let me enter my settings when I'm planning then push them to the genie when I'm ready. I always have my phone, I don't always have the genie.
love the genie mini, but the app is really pain in the a**. crashing so frequently is the most important issue that needs to be fixed. and even when it is working, sometimes the app is not responsive when i hit those buttons. apart from that, would love to have some manual features esp in time lapse mode, where i can set the duration and the interval separately. the bounce back festure should be given to time lapse mode too.
Release an SDK because this software is pathetic. Crashes, spastic behavior and clumsy interface. Poor concept from the beginning. Giving us users a say in how we want to setup a shoot would be wize. Starting over from a clean slate, give us an interface that is logical an easy to use. Better yet, make this a PC and Mac compatible software. A mobile phone is for talking to people on. What if you get a call while your setting up a shot? It won't even work on my Samsung Tablet with the same Android OS as my Samsung phone. The Genie Mini is and excellent concept and the hardware seams to work well. The App needs to be replaced.
The hardware for this product is fantastic, however the app itself as of writing this review doesn't work. If the app worked it would get 5 stars but since the hardware is unusable without the app it really deserves a 0. Do not buy if you have android phones
This app has finally beaten me. Software development should be completed before releasing it to people that have been locked into using it by purchasing the hardware. It is the worst example of a crowd funding project that seems to have nobody controlling the quality and usability, rather they work to a deadline and release unfinished and useless apps and firmware.
No problems here. I have not tested pan and tilt setup in windy conditions yet. It will probably be too wobbly.
I really wanted to like Syrp, but they keep giving me reasons to hate them. I have the 3 axis kit. It started with them shipping me a defective open box item, then proceeded to drag their feet for a month to replace it. Finally after disputing and requesting a refund, they shipped me a replacement. When it works, it works fine. But the app is so full of bugs, it takes forever to set up. Every time there's a firmware update or app update, something breaks. Last time, it was a forced firmware update that bricked my mini in the middle of my 8 day backpacking trip in Chile. This time, it's the new turntable update that is crashing my app every time I try to access the + menu for the ease in ease out feature when it's in pan tilt mode (works fine when it's just panning mode). These problems, I will usually find a solution or the next release will get a fix, but as a professional who needs the device to be reliable, this is unacceptable. I didn't purchase this to be a beta tester. I will consider this purchase a lesson learned and switch to another brand for my next purchase.
The hardware gets 5 stars when controlled from the full size genie. But the app, it sucks. I constantly have problems with it. Setting up a simple pan TL, takes time, which it shouldn't. Is turns the genie mini the wrong way (or all the way around), app crashes, app freezing, etc. When I do finally get it to work, I finish one pan, then I have to quit the app to get it to connect to the mini again. If you switch screens on your phone while using the app, then try to go back to it. It won't work. You have to quit the app, then reconnect, then hit new time lapse, for it to show the right information. Using this app on a professional level? I don't recommend it, especially when you have clients around, it won't work. I rely on the full genie to control the three axis or two axis setup when clients are around. I have used both a Nexus 5 and 5x with the app, with the same results. Syrp needs to hire some better app developers.
Checked compatibility for Genie mini for Android on Syrp website (ONLY states "Version 4.3 & above. BT 4.0). My Nexus 7 2013 runs Android 6 with BT 4.0 so purchased the Genie. Turns out Android 6 & up has major/very common BT connection issue which makes the Genie 100% useless. Contacted Syrp - their reply "We had come across another customer with the same issue with Nexus 7...This is a device specific issue. Unfortunately we cant advise you further on this". Syrp hiding known issues. Unacceptable!
After around seven cycles of firmware updates (all of them supposedly successful), it has an inordinate amount of trouble connecting to the device, and the design of the software is simply catastrophic. There's no clear way to simply move the genie to one end of the slider range and zero it out, something that ought to be a basic feature.
When I first installed the app on my tablet and phone, there was a bug that the team quickly addressed. Once it started working, the app works wonderfully. It's pretty simple to set up your genie mini and go. There were a couple times when I thought that the genie was running and I missed an amazing sunset. The rest is pretty intuitive though.
I've had genie mini for 6 months now, and recently I've had a lot of trouble starting the time lapse. I can connect to the device, but when I press start, nothing happens.. It's so frustrating to use 15 minutes on location every time, just to end up giving up and using a normal intervalometer instead...
Bugs seem to be fixed. Intuitive and easy
I've had a multitude of issues, device bricked and would only work after I connected it to a device without bluetooth 4.0, unstable when pushing updates to device. Device shows to as tilting when panning. I've attempted to use this with the follow devices: iPhone 6, note 4, note 5, galaxy s6, iPhone 6 plus, galaxy s4

Let's be clear. It struggles with Motorola G. Updated via different device. It must be made clear that during set up a camera must be on and connected. Extra emphasis on this please.

I really wanted to like this gear and the app. After months and months of dealing with the constant app issues and failure to produce a reliable update that fixed the pan/tilt issues for android, I lost all my gear in an accident. After receiving an insurance payout I looked into replacing it all. The 'bundles' are the same price as buying all the items separately unlike almost any other company/offer around for buying a bunch of gear and when I inquired about a deal after all the months of trouble and my previous purchases of over $3K worth of gear I was told they could take 5% off a bundle. That's just rude and shows little consideration for all the trouble and disappointment I endured. Syrp do not value loyalty from their customers who put up with their slowness to develop products that work. The only reason I give more than one star is that they were usually good with communication. But that means little if they're not delivering on the products and show that they value customers.
