நாயன்மார் என்போர் பெரிய புராணம் எனும் நூலில் குறிப்பிடப்படும் சைவ அடியார்கள் ஆவார். நாயன்மார் எண்ணிக்கை அடிப்படையில் 63 நபர்கள் ஆவார்கள். சுந்தரமூர்த்தியார் திருத்தொண்டத் தொகையில் அறுபது சிவனடியார்கள் பற்றிய குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார். அந்த நூலினை மூலமாக கொண்டு சேக்கிழார் பெரிய புராணத்தினை இயற்றினார். எனவே திருத்தொண்டத் தொகையை எழுதிய சுந்தரமூத்தியாரையும், அவரது பெற்றோர் சடையனார் - இசை ஞானியார் ஆகிய மூவரையும் நாயன்மார்களாக இணைத்துக் கொண்டார்
