About Simple C25K

Simple C25K is a very simple, free and open source application that can be used to follow Josh Clark's famous 'Couch to 5k' running plan. After every interval the phone will vibrate and beep to let you know you have to start or stop running. The application can run entirely in the background so playing your own music during your exercise will not be a problem.

If you have any suggestions for improvement of this application or if you have problems using it send me an email and I'll see what I can do.

Description of the permissions used:

android.permission.WAKE_LOCK
Keeps the processor in an active state. This ensures the timer will go off at the right moment.

android.permission.READ_PHONE_STATE
Is used to detect incoming phone calls. If a call is detected during the workout, the application will be paused to make sure the alarm will not go off midst conversation.

android.permission.VIBRATE
Is used to vibrate the phone if an interval has come to an end.

The best free app on running for a long time I wanted to run for long distances, vawalla! now I can. To the creators of the app THANK U!!!

R70%
by R####:

Almost perfect. Would prefer option for "half finished" sound so i would know when to start running back.

O70%
by O####:

The beep doesn't sound in between walk/run cycles apart from 3 random times across the whole workout. Checked and changed settings, nothing corrected this. Uninstalling!

by R####:

Used to work fine. A simple tool for training. But it started to crash and doesn't display the audio notification anymore. Samsung 5S here.

R70%
by R####:

Had issues where time would reset when screen orientation changes, mostly during warmup on my nexus 7. Normally have no issues and the app performs as expected. Would be 5 stars if this issue gets resolved.

N70%
by N####:

Beeps and vibration only work some times. Don't waste your time downloading.

F70%
by F####:

I tried a few other running apps before this was was recommended and it was just what I was looking for, no talking to interrupt your music just clear loud beeps when you need to change pace.

N70%
by N####:

Crashes every time my phone goes to screensaver (blank, nothing fancy), then in re-opening it am sent back to start. Not worth the time and effort (albeit seconds) of downloading.

N70%
by N####:

Super easy to use app. I love that it beeps every time and congratulates you on finishing the workout.

A70%

Don't bother. Beep notification only works sporadically

N70%

Easy to use, doesn't suck up a ton of power. Great for my needs. Using on my Samsung Galaxy s3. Just installed on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 3.

I lost track of which beep was which.

Simple and very effective. Doesn't claim to be able to do what it can't. Simple bleeps overlay any music player. Love it.

This app has gotten me running for first time in my life!

It is the only c25k app that works for me. It doesn't mess up. Every time you go from run to walk you hear a loud beep. This is a really good simple app.

T70%

Does exactly what it says it will. No ads, really simple, love it! Only extra which would be great would be an alert half way through so you know how long you have to go and can turn around if necessary.

So simple and just right. It helped me when I first started out jogging on a regular basis.

Z70%

Simple app that doesn't require all the permissions in the world. Does everything it should. It would be nice if you could just check a day off.

Runs independent of anything else, simple beeps to let you know to change. No silly login required, no useless features, does exactly what it's supposed to and nothing more.

Works as advertised and is a good tool to follow the c25k program while also allowing you to listen to music and run thanks to the distinctive beeps.

Simple interface. Does what it says on the tin.

Nice and simple. I used it with Run Keeper to fully track my runs, but this was perfect for keeping me on track. Just did my first 5k under 30 mins thanks to this.

Y70%

Simple, no fuss app. Works great.

Y70%

Helping me get to my first 5k race - highly recommended!

Used to run/jog without a plan, soon would get pains and give up...self confidence dented more and more each time. C25K has made all the difference. Starting with low demand walking-jogging routines and gradually increasing the duration of jogging has built up my stamina and got me to *like* exercising - I now even jog in the rain and in the dark! I can listen to my phone's music/radio in the background thanks to the beeps! Honest permissions too. 5 out of 5 to the developers, very grateful, THANKS!

Would love a halfway there (turnaround) sound, and a way to selectively uncheck completed runs (without clearing all data in android's app mgr), but am more than willing to overlook these for SIIMPLE and small app footprint. App runs so reliably in background w/ music player etc. App is is so reliable. Best c25k I've seen. Thank you.

I have used this app through all the training weeks and it's great. As the description states you can listen to something else and hear momentary beeps when you're supposed to change activity from walking to running and vice versa. The screen displays instructions if you want to glance down and read them; the screen also shows a countdown timer for how many minutes are left in your workout. I've not noticed any significant drain on battery when using the app, so it's clean, simple and straightforward. It is free and doesn't ask you to buy add-ons, so it's just great. I am going to start over with week 1 of the training program after a less active time, so I decided to stop by and write my review.

This is a very simple app--as advertised. Beeps the same way every time to change the pace, so you have to remember where you are in the rotation for walking v. running. I don't always remember, but hey--I'm out, I'm running, which is something I haven't done since college cross country, and since it prompts me, I'm less likely to find an excuse not to run. Like other reviewers, I wish it would have a halfway point beep, and I'd love it if it would say "run" or "walk" (or alternate the type of beeping) instead of just beeping the same each time, but it's a truly simple app that works as advertised and that's good enough for me. Tech support is great, too--I had a totally stupid question (wouldn't beep--darn media volume was off but I couldn't figure that out on my own) but the developer responded within an hour or so to my email and was very polite and helpful. I have a Droid 4 and it works well with it. Thanks for the app!

App is fine, it does the job. I wish it had a half-way alert so I know when to turn around and head home. I like that it's simple and there are NO ADS to accidentally click on.

U70%
by U####:

Does the job. Not bells or whistles. Exactly what I was looking for. I can run whilst using this app, runtastic to map my route & listen to my tunes! My only concern (hence the 4 stars) is the app quite often crashes when you exit after a running session. No biggy!

The c25k program itself is great and this app is so helpful. Just turn on your favorite running music and press the start button. I was wary I wouldn't hear the beep for the transition, so I was diligently eyeing the app during the warm up. But once the first transition came, the beep was very clear. It makes the idea of running less daunting. Once you get in rhythm, its just listening to music and waiting for the beep. So happy I found this app.
