About Architecture of Radio

The infosphere, Visualized.

Every time we use our phones, tablets or laptops we are entering an invisible world of wireless digital signals. It is a world that we cannot see but that is literally all around us.
The Architecture of Radio is a 360 degree data visualization of what this world might look like. It shows the cell towers, GPS satellites and Wi-Fi routers around you that allow us to live our digital lives.

"Fascinating and beautiful" – PCMag
"Enter The Matrix!" – Fast Company
"Both beautiful and slightly disturbing" – Business Insider
"the sight of this invisible world is breathtaking" – Gizmodo
"an entirely new lens through which to view the [reality] we have, but rely on every day." – Boston Globe
"Fascinating." – NYTimes.com

Why should I use this app?

Out of curiosity! We are increasingly dependent on a global ecosystem of digital signals. We use them for so many things, yet we cannot see them. We can see the roads we use to travel, the buildings we live in, but not the infrastructure that is changing the world. How can we understand this world without understanding how it works?
The purpose of this app is to make the invisible visible so we can look at it, think about it and discuss it.

Why Should I not use this app?

This app is not a measurement tool. It’s purpose is to inspire, to see the world through a different lens. The app is based on real world data and gives you a pretty good idea of the density of digital signals around you, but it won’t tell you where to move the couch to get a better WIFI signal.

So how does it work?

The Architecture of Radio is a data visualization, based on global open datasets of cell tower, Wi-Fi and satellite locations. Based on your GPS location the app shows a 360 degree visualization of signals around you. The dataset includes almost 7 million cell towers, 19 million Wi-Fi routers and hundreds of satellites.

Is this really what radio signals look like?

We can’t see radio with our eyes. The waves that we use for our cell phones and Wi-Fi are way outside the spectrum of visible light. In order to “see” radio, it has to be interpreted or translated into an image that we can see. There are many ways to do that but it will always be an interpretation.

The Architecture of Radio is an impression of the infosphere, a way of seeing it.

Hey, as author said - the app for education. The visualisation based on wifi and tower pre-registered geo-data, probably except a satellites. Don't expect that it will show in real-time. The math and visualisation are great. Before write negative reviews please turn your brains - this is not a signal scanner! Just love it :)

Cant see any real radio signals. Complete BS. I want a refund. Cant see any wifi routers anywhere period. Wifi analyzer is way better product and its free.

After a day use it stopped working. When i start the app it says no location found even my gps is on. Please dont buy this app.

Nothing like it. Useful in an information awarenesses manner. Can obviously improve, perhaps better use of device RF tech and integration into existing app. Create layers, Bluetooth, wifi, cellular, etc. Allow user to add and remove layers.

Damn its great app ???? just had a question that whatever it tells is it true ?

D70%
by D####:

This is a really cool app. Just using it for 15 minutes, I observed hundreds of satellites pass by my location as the Earth rotated, plus a long string of stationary satellites, possibly on the ground. Money well spent IMO.

D70%

The app does not even load. No GPS detected. Error loading. Can I get a refund please?

Works great. Fun use, interesting and probably has real world practical uses.

Costing a price, I was reluctant to purchase. Is it really worth a price? It is! This app is cool. Just please add the ability to lock onto a point or source so I can have my cell phone radio going on.

"Expensive gimmick"? It was 2 bucks, dude... The description explains very clearly what it is and isn't.

A70%

This is definitely not the app that I wanted or I thought that it advertised. Can't see my own WiFi. Has to have Internet connection and needs a GPS location. So this is basically a con

D70%
by D####:

I doesn't really find the source of wave. It is a google map base application set on it the locations of towers . So it doesn't detect signals and can't find routers

D70%
by D####:

Damn its great app

I like the idea of this app, but it would be nice to be able to configure it. e.g. 1. show only WiFi/Mobile(2G/3G/4G/5G when it happens)etc... 2. Show only radio stations within a certain distance only. Add a few configs like this and I'll give it 5 *'s

Still the same bug, I can't use it, the app is saing "please enable location service In your device" did that but still Nada ... No refunding ... What to do useless

Works on daughter's iPad but on my Nexus 7 I just get blue screen and key, no data

Its good app concept is truly wonderful but app is not really showing data signal around me it only shows signals of satellite only where as radio waves from cell towers ate more present than of satellite.

I seen a article about this so have been waiting for it to come out. it's is very good but a few options would be make it even better, like being able to toggle certain things on and off, and if different signals pulsated in different colours so you could tell which is which signal up close. my main intention of using this app was to look at wifi hubs and the signal waves pulsating off it. So when everything is being shown it is hard to tell what is what.

Haha. For some reason if I out my phone down facing the horizon, the satellites go right around the world in just over 2 minutes. Wow that's fast! Why don't they use that speedy technology in boats cars and planes? The only thing that is legit are the cellphone towers and maybe some WiFi networks. If it were real it wouldn't need your location, simple as that. Fail. Didn't impress me. Try again.

Waited for this to arrive, sadly it's junk. Don't bother purchasing unless they fix it. Firstly, won't even run unless 4g data is turned on. Just says can't connect to internet. Secondly, DOES NOT SHOW WIFI ROUTERS. I know of at least 36 routers in my area and not a single one shows up, my 3 included. When it does show a possible router they appear to use a non standard MAC address making it nearly impossible to properly identify it. Location doesn't seem to work using latest version as of 3/22/16

In my house it "seemed" to work. It indicated that there were cell towers near by, but it didn't detect my own wifi that it was connected to. While driving, the GPS coordinates did not change (yes "location" was on) It seems more like an art project that a useful tool.

The app has no radio scan, nor a wi-fi scanner. It does have a lot of LAG on a 1.7Ghz and 2Gb RAM mobile device. I want a fast refund!!! _/_

The first thing I found was a Russian radio satellite; kind of fitting it's the first thing I found. However, can't seem to see any routers, my own included, no big deal though. Worth the $2, thanks for fixing it. Nexus 5/Marshmallow

I really don't write reviews, but this app, this app is awesome! I don't understand why people just don't read the description. Thats all you have to do, it tells you everything you need to know about what you are buying. This app works as it's intended. Stop giving these people that worked hard to give us somthing wonderful all these bad reviews because you don't want to read the description. Love the app Im going to impress alot of people with this one.

C70%
by C####:

After reading an article about this app i downloaded it and was disappointed. It didn't show much in my area. I thought it was going to use the actual signals to creat the image not just location info of towers.

B70%
by B####:

needs some major tweaking interface and some of visual representations are too similar. Options for sound and color themes, list of targets found to make it useful in a spreadsheet or some type format export maybe

C70%

It's a useless toy. And not even a good one at that.
