Hyenas are a family of medium-sized predators that occur in Africa and Asia. Although hyenas look like big dogs, they form a separate biological family which is probably most closely related to the other families of the suborder Feliformia: cats, civetkatachtigen , the pardelroller, Madagascar Civets and mongooses.
