Pinta GPS for Android
Pinta GPS is designed as a `direct line' GPS: it doesn't do route planning, and the shown directions are always `as the crow files'.
Pinta GPS is not just a moving map. It has more than fifty types of display, and the map display is just one of them. It can also show:
- latitude, longitude and heading
- distance and bearing to a destination
- current altitude and the required climb/descent to a destination.
- Extensive GPS status information
- Compass-like displays for easy navigation
- Magnetic compass function with optional true north correction and warning for strong magnetic field
- Sunrise, sunset, and sidereal time for any place on earth
- Sun azimuth (apparent direction) and elevation
- Raw magnetic, accelerometer, and light-sensor info
See http://keesvr.home.xs4all.nl/pinta/screenshots.html for a guided tour of the screen shots.
Pinta GPS comes with sets of pages for most common uses, but you can add, remove, or modify pages, or design your own pages, and save them for later use.

This app has all the functionality of real GPSes from Garmin or Magellan, and that for just a few bucks. It took me some time to learn, but it was worth it. Works best with a Bluetooth GPS, but with some care you can use it with the internal one.
