About Virtual ANS

Virtual ANS is a software simulator of the unique Russian synthesizer ANS - photoelectronic microtonal/spectral musical instrument created by Russian engineer Evgeny Murzin from 1938 to 1958. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ANS_synthesizer
The instrument was used by Stanislav Kreichi, Alfred Schnittke, Edison Denisov, Sofia Gubaidulina, Edward Artemiev and other Soviet composers. You can hear the sound of the ANS in Andrei Tarkovsky's movies Solaris, The Mirror, Stalker.

While the other similar programs are just fun toys, the Virtual ANS is a full-featured professional tool which allows you to create unusual, deep, atmospheric sounds. With this app you can draw a complete piece of music, or convert sound to image (sonogram) and then make some complex sonogram modifications.
Actually the potential of the program has not been explored yet, so it (as well as PixiVisor) is more appropriate for people who are searching for something new, not afraid to experiment with sound.

Key features:
• unique Virtual Analog sound engine;
• unlimited number of pure tone generators;
• powerful sonogram editor - you can draw the spectrum and play it at the same time;
• any sound (from a WAV file or a Microphone/Line-in) can be converted to image (sonogram) and vice versa;
• supported file formats: WAV, PNG, JPEG, GIF, VNS (Virtual ANS 1.x);
• Virtual ANS is also available for Windows, Linux, macOS and iOS;
• more functions in the next Virtual ANS updates...

Just started using this yet one of the things I really like is in sonogram mode it's registering ultrasonic frequencies via recording and playing it back as a audible sound! Close prox WiFi & TV etc. Wonder if it has the ability to register some sub-sonic frequencies/infrasound also via phone/tablet Mic? Especially through a specialist Mic. EVP ITC research. Two way communication?? Think Close Encounters! *It can pick up lots of sub frequencies through phone Mic even! (Some of the sounds/voices you may hear have a very human recognisable and individual sound. Personality to them. Clear words like as if someone is in the next room although there is no one there! Nobody outside ect. And they can sound as if they are actually close by) Find Eff/effects and press Gamma then Gain. After go to zoom options to focus in for visual analysis. Also check out the Flip option button for different frequency accentuations. (If you have a good phone/tablet ect Mic. Which my phone has. Samsung Ace. Though if you don't have a good Mic in your phone it shouldn't make much difference if your using this for EVP work mainly. As a more gritty sound can actually help pick up EVP. It has a Sound quality control and I keep mine on the mid way setting anyway for more white noise ect. So if you don't have a good sound just adjust the Sound quality up more. Sound quality just gives a bit more functionality. So you could have a phone with not a particularly good Mic for example and get much better EVP than say on your tablet ect with a better Mic.) This app is a really good piece of kit and especially so for EVP type sound research. And I mean REALLY GOOD. Has a very sensitive range to what it can pick up and draws out hidden sounds really well. WiFi (or something?) for example as said which has a very high frequency way beyond other app based sonogram ranges I've used. Same with your subsonic frequencies too. And it's the subsonic where you'll find and see lots of your EVP with this. (*and especially high frequencies too!) Ive had results with this app already after a few trials. (*quiet a few of them now) Yet do watch out for TVs next door or talking (even extremely quietly) outside and all that as being very sensitive it could be prone to picking up the fella next door actually watching Close Encounters or something. Early quiet hours use is probably best. Also you can press the Gain option more than once (a few times) for an even deeper sound and graphical analysis. (Same with gamma option) This application should come up pretty much first really when you type in Spirit Box EVP recording on Google Play. Its that good! Also if you go to the link in the description it will show you that this application via the original sound machine is named after a theosphist/occultist who was interested in such type sound and light. And I can see and hear why! Only downside is I couldn't open it after transferring to my tab which is not online. Yet I will certainly buy this again when it is. Phenomenal application.

Its a cool app no doubt well worth the cash but I recommend like adding more than just pure sine wave for the tone. Why not be able to change the waveforms to all the other basic shapes and maybe even be able to load your own wavetables or something(similar to xfer records serum vst). I would really love to see that

Love this. So well thought out and easy to use. There is some crackling on playback on my Moto X Pure. That's the only issue.

I've always enjoyed this developer's applications and Virtual ANS is another hit in my book. Well, to be honest, I still cannot help but feel overwhelmed by Sunvox, try as I may, I still cannot figure out that slightly convoluted application. Maybe I just haven't had the patience, I don't know. But, I bought this app on my iPad 4 and I am super excited that I get to play with it on my Android devices as well. I believe even a novice could enjoy this wonderful application. Thanks and God bless. HTC Rezound

I have tried all of this developers apps now and I guess I'm just not artistic (or autistic) enough to get it. I just like making new musical sounds. You all think this guys a genius do you mean like in an idiot savant way? I just want a synthesizor not a freakin virtual particle collision random geometry fusion bullshit. I have psychedelic live wallpapers for that. I really did want to find one good app from this guy. I have lost a little more faith in the state of music on planet earth. Sunvox worst app

Perfect addition to my chaos collection, let's music player run in the background so I can match it to beats from Caustic and/or sounds from HEAT Synthesizer. Saving to wav gives the pristine sound I need for mixdown! Wicked,wicked work m'man!

I'm a noise/drone artist, and I use mostly physical media. That said, I've been using this app for about 3 months, and it's incredible. From gritty, digital blasts to light, spacey ambience, from clumsy, finger drawn doodles to complicated, high res pictures, there's an unexplored world of sound visualizations. The complexity of Virtual ANS makes it worthwhile to track down the tutorials on youtube, but I played around with it for about a month before I got to that. Really shines with outboard effects.

Doesn't run without distortion (crackling/audio glitches) on either my Nexus 7 (1st gen) or my Nexus 5, even following the advice on the wiki to lower the SR and project size. While the app is awesome on PC and shows promise on Android the glitches basically make it useless.
