About Ships
"VIDEGRO's Ships" is a free Android application which allows you to receive AIS information directly from ships in your neighbourhood using a cheap (10-15 euro) DVB-T-DAB-FM / RTL-SDR receiver.
IMPORTANT: You need to have an OTG capable Android device and a DVB-T-DAB-FM / RTL-SDR receiver, otherwise this application is useless. Search eBay / DealeXtreme for 'DVB-T-DAB-FM' to obtain one.
Seems there are some problems with the (more expensive) 'RTL-SDR.com Silver' receivers. Just use the cheap ones :-)
It is an all in one application. This means that these 3 features are combined in one:
- Find the parts per million offset (PPM) of your DVB-T-DAB-FM / RTL-SDR receiver using the build-in utility;
- Receive the AIS data directly from air;
- Plot unlimited ships data and traces without delay onto a map (or send it to another application like OpenCPN).
WARNING: In Android 6+ you have to grant explicit permissions for storage and location usage. Go to: Settings-Apps-Ships-Permissions, switch both Location and Storage ON. We try to find a better solution soon.

Fails on every opening, yes I have reinstalled the app and rebooted between the installation and usage, yes I had the SDR plugged in prior to usage, the SDR works with other apps such as SDRtouch on the S6EDGE, so it's not the SDR or OTG cable.... Good luck.. Edit: I have tried two as you put it "cheap dongles." One a Nooelec smart SDR and the second is an E4k. Even tried my blue nooelec V2 and this crashes every time. NONE work with this software and both with SDRtouch on my S6edge. Again good luck with this folks..
