هي رواية تدور قصتها في "أسبانيا" وبالريف الأندلسي ، حيث راعي صغير يدعى "سانتياجو" ، كونه قد حلم يوما بكنز مدفون امام الأهرامات المصرية ، وقد كان الحلم واضحا ودقيقا جدا ، لدرجة شعور "سانتياجو" لدى استيقاظه أنه يعلم بالضبط موقع الكنز. ومن يومها والراعي الصغير بصراع مع فكره ، هل يذهب لرحلة البحث عن الكنز أو يظل ببلاده ، ويستمر بحياته وعمله كراعي؟ الذي كان بيتمتع به لتناغمه مع الطبيعة والاغنام

أصبح الراعي حكيما و داهية بالرغم لجهله بتلك الحقيقة لمجاورته الخيميائي - وتعلم ببراعة كيف يعيش الحياة بأفضل ما يكون ، مهما جرى من ظروف. وقرر أن يتابع رحلته وحلمه لنهاية برفقة الخيميائي الذي اراد مساعدته ، بالرغم اضطراره بترك حبه الحقيقي وراءه بالواحة.

وبعد عدة مغامرات وأخطار وعديد الدروس التي تعلمها الشاب والخيميائي ، وصل الراعي الشاب الاسباني أخيرا لأهرامات مصر العظيمة . غمره الشعور بالفرح والغبطة ، أخيرا بلغ نهاية الرحلة المنشودة للكنز ، وشعر بالامتنان لأن فرصة أتيحت له ليتبع حلمه ويحقق اسطورته وشكر الخيميائي كثيرا
