About Remotebox

Remotebox is a simple remote controller for Rhythmbox, gnome's music player. It allows you to download your music list, select songs to be played and control the playback through a WiFi connection. Currently, GTK3's Rhythmbox (versions 2.9x and 3.x) is fully supported and the support for GTK2 (version 0.x) is experimental.

It is required that you install the corresponding open source Rhythmbox plugin (also developed by me), available (with instructions) on http://github.com/rbaron/remotebox .

Please write me with suggestions or bugs to dev@rbaron.net and I will personally get back to you. Thanks!

Kind of gets stuck and lacks functionality to be rated higher. Could not get it to show playlists or albums!

I love the way the app works. Simple and straightforward. You have to get your IP by running ifconfig in your Linux terminal, or whatever your distro command is.

Will give 5 star if I can figure out how to connect..

Good concept, but can be so much better. I'm being polite giving this 3 stars. It's very basic at the moment. Doesn't have a file cache, sorts by artist only, no playlists, no queueing system... Ends up limiting the user very much. Don't see myself using this, unless the enhancements are done . Wouldn't mind paying for the real thing. Not worth a user's time and effort to be honest.

I'm running Ubuntu 16.04 and the server is on, put in my IP address and the app does not work, also I'm running Rhythmbox 3.3, this is useless.

Very nice. There is still room for improvement though - personally I'd really like to have an indicator as to which song is playing and covert art. Also it would be cool if it had automatic server discovery on LAN (no need to enter IP).

As the plugin doesn't work for me, this app is of no use.

Being able to scroll albums or genres would be helpful. Search would be ideal. Will stick to vlcremote for now.

The webpage only explains how to install the plugin but _not_ *how* to connect the app to the plugin. Struggled for 10min... So for those who wonder, too: 1.Install plugin by just copying it into the plugin folder in .locale. 2.install app 3.Install Fing(network app) 4.Open Rythmbox, go to plugins and activate remotebox 5.Open Fing; find your PC's IP, copy it 6.Open Remotebox app, it will request a IP to connect to, paste the copied IP Address into it and click the 'connect' button and you are done. Have fun!

Today I discovered Rhythmbox for Linux. Now I can also control it from my phone!! Nice work thank you. Totally made my day.

Lame! No internet radio. Just playlist. Crippled, weak, junk! Deleting.

This is a great little app. It is however very simple (which is not a criticism, it does exactly what it says on the tin), so expect to be able to Play, Pause, Stop, Back, Next, Change the volume and Select song out of your library and a small amount more. Most importantly however... it actually works.

A lot of work went into this app but sadly it appears incomplete. If you have only a few tracks this app is probably good enough but I have thousands so it's not very useful. If only I could get to my playlists then at least I could find some use for it.

Does what I need it to, would be 5 stars if there was a remote mode where the buttons are larger, rather than at the bottom, perhaps even a notification bar interface...

Everything seems connect and run properly. The reason that I can't use this for regular use is that whenever I select a song from an album in the app, the next song queued to play is always the first song in my rhythmbox library, no matter how the library is sorted. I'd also like to see the current song being played on the android client.

Nice simple app for Rhythmbox, needs to show what song is playing, and needs to stop at the end of the album.

Now I don't have to get off the couch to change tracks etc :-) Perhaps some simple new features could be: - a "goto current playing song" button; - a better scrolling widget, one that can allow you skip whole letters at a time. It sometimes has trouble connecting for some reason and my Samsung 7.2 TAB can't seem to download the song list. Hope you keep working on it Thanks heaps. Edit: downgraded rating as it tends to throw java exceptions a lot. Good when it works.

I was so excited to use this app! Sad thing is that you can only filter by artists. I probably wont really use this app. I want to filter by albums and playlists. This is not available at all. A search function would be usefull aswell. When these features are available, I'll use this app every day.

I used to use banshee, but always had connection issues/weird lagging, so I tried this out. It is simple to get up and running, but there are two things I don't like. 1. My file list does not change extremely often. Can't this be cached and update in the background or on-demand? 2. I would really like to see what's currently playing (banshee did this with album art even). This would be great, and even better (and beyond banshee) would be to see what's next in the current list.

It would get full marks if it had playlist support. Cover art support would be a stretch goal.

Developer fixed my issue within 12 hours, crazy! Installed fine and excellent instructions. Connection Easy. Using ubuntu 14.04

Works fine! Easy to install ... if I may, i would add just some info for the newbies to linux systems on how to retrieve their IP ... I agree with a previous review : 5 stars if it could also control volume! But GREAT APP! [ 18 June ] : As Stated ... Great App, now that it may Control The volume ... 5 Stars

Play/pause/ volume etc work fine - but there's no menu no matter how often I press the button, so can't get a song list.

The rhythmbox plugin folder location is wrong, and even when I found it, it didn't come up in TV's list of plugins anyway. And when I tried to open the Android app, it crashed every time. A piece of crap from both ends.

If you get an error saying "plugin loader python3 was not found. Use 2.x version instead. I assumed that since ubuntu's default media player was rhythmbox, it would have the newest update.

This app works seamlessly integrating your phone with the popular audioplayer rythmbox. Very nice app, you should get it too!

If you find this app in the play store, don't expect to just start using it. I feel like there should be some info about installing the server side when you open the app for the first time. I was quite confused about what I was meant to do to get this running.
