Contour lines plugin — OsmAnd for Android
Osmand with all contained features and plugins is the best all in one navigation, orientation, offline, updated, featured personal travels anywhere full assistance app with tones usage, what could ask for more?..Contours are also very helpful while hiking wild nature alpines addicted
Contours don't match UK ordinance survey data which is worrying when at a trig point. If not using for precise measurements then this is perfect for walking and general use but not for exact values.
Contour lines: OK. Hill shade: WRONG. The hill shades tiles dont meet well, huge gray lines on each tile junction.
hill shading is uneven and patchy, not worth your money. Locus is much better.
Very nice addition if you are already using osmand. Hillside tiling is not perfect but I'm still glad I have it.
Excellent maps. Some routes are strange! It doesn't learn a route, even when you take it instead of the one it expects you to follow.
A must have and excellent addition to OSMAND when using for mountain cycling, skiing, canyoning, hiking, climbing, running. I've checked it against many of the areas I know well and it is prefect. Also, it is an offline feature not depending on wi-fi or data connections when outdoors. It runs more smoothly than the other solutions like overlay tiles or image overlays regarding the terrain, plus, it has the best precise output to all zoom levels. Here is how I installed it: - The plugin is installed at the chosen device during the purchase procedure. - In OSMAND app go to Download maps > tap on the region you want > tap on the country you want, there you just download "Contour lines" and "Hillshades", assuming that you have already downloaded the map of this country. - In OSMAND app go to "Configure map" and either enable "Contour lines" or "Hillshade layer" or both. - Restart the app just to be sure. Enjoy nice routes.
Contour lines cannot be downloaded, because the servers are extremely slow resulting in connection timeouts rendering this plugin useless.
OsmAnd+ doesn't recognise that this plugin is installed
AVOID this app LIKE THE PLAGUE. It is a con.
The main app is great, but this plugin doesn't work at all for the UK.
App simply would not work. After purchasing, it would not download any contour maps and the only option it gave was "Refund"
Great just great! U get a much better feeling for the surrounding area!
Would not install. Support helpful but it requires a force stop if the main app to recognise the plugin
Love this app, so much useful
Missing contours or shades for many countries
Doesn't match in Burundi
Works well!
Can't install. No idea how.
Absolutely perfect.
An essential addon to OsmAnd
Good
This plugin makes OsmAnd the best app for hiking that I've seen so far. Just two (minor) issues: The hill shading has some artifacts at high zoom levels, and the contour lines are always metric.
Good for those who likes nature or military and maping.
OK this is a royal pain to install. Once installed make sure you fully kill the osm process then restart the app. You can then download the contours. Unfortunately the colours chosen for contours is the same as other items on the map so on villages and towns they simply vanish. On the upside it's cheap and the files are small.
I have my own compiled OsmAnd and have payed for this plugin, but can not enable it. Trying to download contour data takes me to play store and press on 3 dots in plugin does not react. Is there some limitation in using this plugin with self compiled app? Is it working at all?
I can see the Relief, turn it on and off, but no Contour Lines! As of now, I can see contour lines in other regions, so it could be a problem of the Danish data, what I have reported before. The other point is, that the contour lines are hard to spot on one hand and really pulling a lot of CPU for rendering on the other. => 3 star.
Adding shade and contours totally transforms Osmand maps. They look gorgeous and are so much more informative. Wish I'd bought this extension years ago when I first got Osmand. Only tiny issue to fix is that you need to close down Osmand the first time you enable this plugin.
I was hesitant with the mixed reviews. Everything worked great right of the bat, the plugin seemed to default to being enabled. Looks great, and just wish I'd bought this ages ago!
Frustrating to get going, but work well once you figure it out.
The plugin works well, but when OsmAnd refuses to respond to request for hillshade update I can not recommend this. The hillshading for Norway is terrible yet there are free data with excellent quality. They haven't updated the data since initial release 3 years ago..
Ive paid for and downloaded the contour lines plug in, selected 'enable' of the contour lines plug in in settings and ticked the box for 'hillshade layer' in the configure map option. Nothing nada. Whats happening please?
Downloaded and hill shade is showing up but no contours... Refunding due to inadequate instructions / functionality :(
After enjoying the free version for over 12 months, (best free offline maps) I thought I'd pay to get the contours/hillside download too. I paid my $2.00. Why isn't this working?
When OsmAnd calculates distance between two points, does it include difference in altitude when this plugin is enabled? Apart from that question the plugin works fine for me.
Installed but no contour lines visible. I tried deleting and reloading the map. Looked for a "with contours" version but the only option I could see just took me back to installing this app. Tried changing various map options to no avail. Went back after a restart and tried again. Now the option to download contours is there. Did that but still nothing visible. Did another restart and finally now it works.
Got the paid version of Osmand and everything works smoothly now. Finally, my favorite fishing lake hike location shows up with contours and shading on my Tracfone LG L41C. Can't wait for the snow to clear so I can track every step of the way. This app is so cool. Kudos to the developers.
The original app (OSMAND+) is great and as good a front end for this open source map base as anybody could want, but the contour lines plugin is at best, spotty and only intermitantly usable. Hopefully futher user feedback and develpment will improve it. I'm giving it a 3 for potential not performance.
Data for areas close to poles (eg. YT) are not accurate often. Usage of better source for data should fix it. Howto for building custom contours files should be provided for users who want to make them by themselves.

Must-have plugin for Osmand. Contour lines are great for outdoor usage. Hillshades are nice as they make the map more intuitive. Unfortunately the hillshades have some artefacts on tile boundaries at high zoom levels. Works well offline.
