About InstaWifi

Have you ever been in a situation where your friends/family comes over and ask for your WiFi name and password? Do you have a long password that you keep on a piece of paper for people to type? There is no need for that anymore.

InstaWifi makes it easy for you to connect and share wifi networks with your friends and family instantly through the use of NFC and QR codes. Simply tap your phone on a sticker, or scan a QR code to connect to a wifi network.

======================================================================

InstaWifi is only needed to generate the QR code for your wifi network. Once you have the QR code, any Android smartphone with the Barcode Scanner app by zxing (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.zxing.client.android) installed can scan to automatically connect.

For the NFC features, InstaWifi needs to be installed on the device to read the NFC sticker correctly.

Interested in playing around with NFC but don't know where or what type of NFC stickers to buy? Donate a couple bucks to the developer and I will send you special Android-themed NFC stickers as a token of appreciation.

For more details, see the help section in the menu of the app.

======================================================================

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING before installing:
If you rooted your phone, InstaWifi will ask for root on startup so that it'll automatically grab your WiFi password and security type so that you don't have to manually type it in. Root access is not required.

DO NOT share the QR code to people you do not trust. The QR code has your wifi network password embedded in the image, and should only be used to share with family or friends.

PERMISSIONS EXPLAINED:
Storage - External SD card access is used to save QR images onto the SD card so that GMail and other applications can retrieve the image and attach it to their app.

Network Communication - NFC permission is used to read/write from a NFC tag, as well as for Android Beam. Also to view WiFi networks to populate the list of WiFi networks you've connected to.

System Tools - To enable and disable WiFi.

This is making life a lot easier for everybody who needs wifi access at my place. However I notice that the QR and NFC codes are set for WiFi to NOT connect automatically. This confuses return customers.

Y70%
by Y####:

Good app, but when scanning NFC tag, it requires the other phone to have InstaWifi installed. That limits the usefulness of this app.

I used this app on my s3 worked fine, on my s5 currently its unable to read the password and shows random numbers and letters (hash).

Y70%

App doesn't work as intended on newer android versions (lollipop and marshmallow). Can't read the passwords even with root access. Was once a great app.

It crashes when I try to launch it. Sony xperia z3 5.0.2 Root

Does this app needs root? Just asking...

Works as advertised and will surely get some enhancements in due time. Well done Dev! Verizon Gnex.

My only complaint is that for non ROOTED users there should be some way to autofill in the wifi password. Or at least have the option to save multiple wifi networks with their respective passwords rather than having to retype it whenever I change networks to share.

A70%
by A####:

Just select which WiFi network you want and it creates a QR code for you. Now all of your friends and family can just scan the qr code with a qr scanner app and it will automatically connect them to your wifi signal.

M70%

Won't uninstall properly. Hijacks tablet now on start up EVERY TIME and on going to Google play. I've even factory reset the device - still comes back.

I70%
by I####:

Forcing people to use your app to connect to a WiFi network? The fact that I can set this up on a device and write to a tag or make a QR code is cool. However the NFC tag or QR code doesn't have the WiFi credentials. It just redirects who ever wants my WiFi network connection to the play store to download this app before connecting. Not cool! Would be nice if someone else could connect without requiring the app. Till then one star!

This app needs to be on every android phone out there! So good that I'm donating. My only complaint is that for non ROOTED users there should be some way to autofill in the wifi password. Or at least have the option to save multiple wifi networks with their respective passwords rather than having to retype it whenever I change networks to share.

I can write an NFC tag & stick to my router as well as display an QR code to a friend with ease. Those complaining it doesn't remember your password don't realize apps cannot access your WiFi passwords without root access for security. Low ratings because of ignorance is asinine.

As a bonus, shows existing passwords for root users, saves me crawling around in the file manager to find password records

For root users, the app reads the wrong WEP or WPA2 password from memory. Instead of the actual key, the app comes up with a random string of hex digits (which do not work).

A70%

App force closes as soon as I try to load it.

This app is incredible; had to donate from guilt! Thanks, dev!

Love this. Works well on HTC one. Hopefully password can be saved.

Easy login for guest wifi users. Slight stumbling block where users need to already have downloaded instawifi from another data connection, but otherwise very simple to use. Just tap and you'll be connected.

O70%

The app now loads the password of saved networks by the looks of it. Writes the tag fast and the tag functions perfectly. Not much else to say. No problems so far.

Z70%

Always giving the message force close and doesn't work, using Galaxy Nexus with paranoid android on 4.4.4

S70%
by S####:

It doesn't save your password and it brings you to the Google play store, right to their own app page.

S70%
by S####:

Even if the app could not automatically retrieve passwords of my saved networks, it should at least be able to save the passwords after I've entered them into the app the first time.

S70%

Doesn't save passwords. UPDATE: after months of waiting for an update, it even says in the description, "WiFi configuration saved," STILL DOESNT SAVE PASSWORDS!

T70%

Me Gusta. My buddies and I find it very useful. Great for going over other people's house and beaming wifi to each other. OR at work, to bean your passwords on your tablet to your phone. Muhahaha.
