About Encrypted Notepad (Legacy)

NOTE: this is a very old app, not really suitable for modern Android phones. It's listed here mainly for legacy / backwards compatibility reasons. It's still secure, just not user-friendly. You may need to use a long-press on one of the standard Android buttons (either the Task Manager, Home or Back) to bring up the app menu.

A very simple Notepad-like application which saves and loads encrypted documents, using a file format compatible with the desktop version available at http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/enotes .

Has a PC program to create compatible files on the pc. Good basic program, but doesn't remember last file and leaves a screenshot of the last screen in the Android active apps list.

i'm impressed, less than 1mb used. i wish i could find a way to delete files that are no longer wanted.

Lacks a 'save' function when working on an existing note, you must re-save it as a new file every time and retype the filename every time.

For instance when you go to enter the password it should just bring up the keyboard. I was able to create the etxt file on my Mac using the enotes jar from sourceforge and then copy the file over which was way better than typing everything in on my phone. Overall good and reliable.

This app gets the basics down but has a couple flaws that is hard to overlook. If you don't exit the app correctly the app keeps your encrypted info open and even if you do exit properly a screen shot of your info is in the task manager These are pretty big deals

Poor design.

C70%
by C####:

It's OK, does the job but doesn't seem to have a "Save" option, only "Save As" so you have to make a new file every time you edit it and re-input a password. You can end up with a lot of versions of the same file.

Data or key cached accidental open of app days later w/ info displayed. Disappointing, but I know heads and heads do come off.

by T####:

I tried the desktop version of the app and was very impressed with it. The Android version surely does not disappoint. Though it really really needs an update from that froyo era look. Also please make saving an old file after editing easy one touch operation. It's really painful now as we have to follow all the procedure of creating a new file every time after editing a file. And that includes having to type password twice on every save. Please fix that ASAP.

Love this app

When you exit out of it you can view what you've been typing by opening the multi task menu. (holding the home button or double tapping it on the HTC one or whatever.) Hopefully this will be fixed.

Simple but powerful

Like so many encryption tools, utterly fails at handling text properly. You can't adjust font face/size, new sentences are not capitalized, and you can't import text from an external file to make life overall easier. Awful.

by K####:

You can see that this is < 40k in size so no whining about how limited it is. The sourceforge website says it uses AES encryption. That should make this a secure encrypted text editor app. The icing on the cake is the same editor is available for Windows, Mac and Linux as a Java jar file.

Poor design.

Last doc opened is visible in plaintext on opening the app, unless you 'create new document' each time you leave the app. Font is large - no choice - though it is monospace which is good. Only opens files in Documents, and only .etxt ones. Importing would have to be copy paste.

I don't think the security is strong enough for super spies, but it keeps the code for the DVR away from the kids.

M70%
by M####:

I like the simplicity of this and the minimal permissions it uses. Apps like catch require way too many permissions for secure data. If the developer would add the ability to search for text in the opened doc then I would rate it 5 stars. I place all my passwords in a single text file and simply search for the bank/website to get the password and other info. Otherwise this is the closest app I have found to fit my need. It just comes up a little short.

I like how it makes a simple encrypted text document. You can have as many encrypted files as you want. Be sure to click "New Document" when you leave the app to keep your open document hidden.

little app to have.Does what it says, and does it well. 5 stars all the way! Thanks!

Ok for free but lacks directory in 'save as' function or a seeming save key, which makes it almost useless for high use. And, why can't I save wo pw?

So far so good.

Regarding the issue pointed out by 'Nicholas Enero' in a previous review, it doesn't lack a Save function, it is smart enough to Auto-Save all changes when you press the back button.

M70%

Simple notepad-like "lockbox". Great, but could use a "find" function.

Simple app to encrypt my sensitive text notes with a password so I can keep it safely on my phone.
