Is It Vegan? for Android
Way too many ads and pop ups! Would've paid for this app to avoid them. Their is an ad after every scan. Otherwise it is a cool app for people new to the vegan lifestyle.
Nothing that I scanned came up with an aswer. All stated- "unsure". Great idea but the database is clearly nit sufficient for use in Australia.
How can alpro soya milk 'possibly' be vegan!?!?!.. 2 many vegan items coming up as unsure. Quicker 2 read the label.
Would not scan the barcode and when i manually typed it in,it got the wrong product and all results were "unsure" even on vegan products..
Was this app supposed to do something, because it didn't. I'd scan a barcode, it would load for a while and then...nothing. It won't even register that I scanned anything. Manually entering the barcode doesn't yield any results either. Neither does the search. I even reinstalled it and it still did the same thing.
Doesn't seem suited for Australia, most vegan items I tried came up "Unsure" or didn't even recognise the product. Don't bother, just read the label
It didn't know if water was vegan.
It's a great app, but the ads are just too much. There is a happy medium somewhere, but not after every single scan.
This app is absolute cr*p. For all the products that I have scanned it said 'not sure'. Well thank you for clearing that out. ===> Uninstall.
Even I scan a pack of soy milk it still unknown.
new update won't let me look up product's
The app is amazing, the ads have made me want to delete it and just use google.
THIS IS THE BEST APP OF MY VEGAN LIFE! PRAISE JESUS HALLELUJAH!!!!
This app
So I have used this app a few times and it's worked for me but I decided to test it out on some butter whose packaging clearly says "contains:milk" and this app said it was vegan. I understand this could be because the actual ingredients list on the package only says "sweet cream and salt" however if this app can skip something like milk this easily and still call a product vegan , I wouldn't trust it.
I love the idea of this but it just doesn't seem to work very well. Most of the products I scan come back as unknown. Several it's actually recognised have a different ingredients list to the packet I'm holding and when I try and add things to the database my phone just goes nuts. I'll leave it on my phone for now in the hope the developers smooth out the bugs and build the database to a usable level.
Is alright and the scanner works fine. However there's a limited range of food that it recognises, mostly larger brands. I have tried to submit the ingredients via picture but each time i take a picture a black square comes up and I'm not sure if it's taken it or not. Please fix this, i have a OnePlus X phone
I love this app when it is working, but a lot of time I can't even get it to open as it just crashes immediately. So I end up uninstalling and then installing again. Also if the app doesn't recognise a product and you go to add it, the camera never works. Just shows me a black photo each time. If these issues were fixed it would definitely get 5 stars. Using it on a HTC 1x+
I don't have any issues with the scanner. I'm outside the US so most of my products aren't available but at least they warn you about that in the description. I'm taking lots of photos in the hope that this improves, so I hope the developers don't get annoyed by the flood! Only issue I have is that I continually get messages that say "Unable to delete file [filename ]" I assume this is related to my phototaking but everything else seems to be working.
Don't bother using the scanner, itnever works! It just keeps unfocusing. It also crashes when you try to take picture to add a product to the list. It'll display a "could not delete jpeg" error. LG G4
I tried this about a year ago and gave up as most of the products weren't recognised (is it cos I'm in UK?) just tried it again and 2 out of 3 things I scanned weren't recognised and they were common vegan /accidentally vegan items like sainsbury rice. If I try and add products it takes the pictures but then errors. Note: having read the notes for this app it only has U.S. products so that explains the lack of products for UK.
I loved the idea of this app, but I have not yet scanned something that didn't come up as unknown. Then when you try to add item to database my phone goes crazy and I can't. Great idea but unless bugs are fixed and more items get added to database I'll have to give it 2 stars.
This app is really awesome, just two suggestions.... One is more products, which should happen as users take pictures. Two, it'd be good if you specified whether "unsure" ingredients were alright in certain products ( like the glycerol in wriglys gum is vegetarian) oh also whether it's animal tested would be awsome if possible :3
Pls someone reply soon, before I delete this all all in all. It does sound very helpful and like the perfect vegan handy dandy app, but just to be safe, how exactly does this scanner work? Because I also read on the instructions it can take your contacts, phone number, and other personal information, and if that's the case, well... It might be vegan, but I will remove it if these two flaws don't get fixed as soon as possible.

Is It Vegan has worked like a charm for me. I always check the ingredients of a food item before purchasing, but I am not yet capable of spotting what I term the "covertly named" animal products. This app has never failed to scan a barcode for me. I was vegetarian for years and have just begun my research on veganism. I love how this app breaks down vegetarian and vegan ingredients. This is an educational tool that is making my transition much easier.
Great idea! Haven't taken it shopping yet but can't wait. Scanned some canned tomatoes... I like how it says definitely vegan. I don't mind typing in the bar code, once I know if it's vegan I won't have to do it again anyways. I tried scanning some GNC multivitamins.. wasn't found, submitted them but I'm not sure how that works yet. Hopefully I get some notification on what the item is. If not hopefully they get up on that, I'd appreciate it. -Be vegan, stay vegan
Love the app thinks it so useful in many many ways esp starting out. Love the ability to add products! I feel involved and making and contributing by adding my input. Trying to add a product it keeps coming up with an error message - please can you get back to me as to how i can stop it!?
I'm a lazy vegan and need this to figure out all those pesky hidden animal ingredients. Thanks for developing a really useful tool. I hope some improvements to design/aesthetics come soon but it's functional and fun it would just be nice if it were prettier.
The camera is upside down or turned around somehow which makes it nearly impossible to figure out how to get the product into view/focus. Very frustrating. If this was fixed I would otherwise like the app fine. I'm not sure if the problem is just for my phone or not, but I have a new Nexus 5X and in all other apps, my camera works as it should.
Doesn't recognize even brand name items. Also, takes a long time to scan. It could work, I just dont have 5 minutes standing at an isle trying to scan, no patience for it. Worked on only 2 items I scanned out of 10+.
crashes when trying to take picture to add product to list. Also keeps displaying a "could not delete jpeg" error. Plus, the scanner takes forever to register, have to keep moving in and out to finally scan. LG G4
This app is a wonderful concept. However, this is terrible. No barcodes scanned (all US products as specified) could be found and not even the search functions were working properly! A waste of time.
Doesn't have the products I wanted to search and when I wanted to add them to help, the camera stucks taking pictures endlessly. The overall idea is woderful but it needs a lot of improvements.
I just tried it for the first time and only one out of 5 items I tried scanned. So I mean if have to use it more to give a solid review but thus far it seems the Barcode scanner could be better. Tbh I probably wouldn't want to use it while shopping as in its current state would probably take too long to scan everything. So I may delete it soon. My roommate will like the idea but I doubt she will use it alot.
Worst app ever, the bar code scanner will not pick up anything and the manual input can't find anything. And since I'm on holiday, I have noo idea if what I'm eating is Vegan or not. Get it sorted!
When I select the scan option, I get a message that my phone camera can't start properly & for me to reboot. There's nothing wrong with my phone camera. This is a waste of time as I have to manually key in the barcode.
The barcode scanner could use an upgrade; it seems to have problems tracking and it works slowly. But otherwise a great, smoothly running app. Can't wait to take it to the grocery store! :)
I'm not kidding I've been using it three minutes and I've had 6 adverts, one every 30 seconds! 2 were asking me to buy the paid for version! If I said no 3 seconds after downloading it why wpuld I change my mind 30 seonds later? Has a repeated list of the same product but different answers, definitely vegan and probably vegan! Well which one! Going to stick with it but don't think it'd an app I'll be keeping!

Amazing! This makes it so much easier, and saved me quite a large amount of time. Ads are a little annoying, but it's a free app, the creator should get some money for this.
