Qute is a simple plain-text editor for Android that comes with multiple themes and fonts.
The goal of Qute is to make writing aesthetically pleasing. To make looking at a single text file for hours appealing, Qute offers switchable themes with subtle background images and font effects. Also, Qute includes a couple of great open-source fonts that are a joy to work with.
Qute's user interface is distraction-free and offers a full-screen mode. In this sense, it is similar to such great editors as WriteRoom, Dark Room and WriteMonkey. As far as the themes are concerned, however, Qute is far more adventurous.
It should be noted that, apart from theming, Qute is a rudimentary editor. In particular, it is not intended for editing source code.
It is recommended to install the OI Filemanger in addition to Qute, to make opening files more convenient. However, OI Filemanager is not required to use Qute.

No updates in two years. Author seems to have abandoned this project, and indeed the entire Android platform, for some reason. The PC version now supports markdown and other features that will never come to the Android version. Uninstalled and moved on to a better supported app.

Yes, it's bloody absurd! Every time you want to open a file it has to be done manually ... or ""Pick using file manager" only it doesn't recognise my installed file manager. Godsake, why can't you just list the files like every other text app? Uninstalled.

Honestly this is the best note taking app I've found so far *entirely* because of the full-screen feature. If you simply changed the file opening feature, and gave us regular fonts and a simple black background white text / white background black text, this would be perfect. I'm sorry but the fonts and backgrounds you're using now are a little silly and pretty distracting. But I love the full screen feature, and would use your app exclusively if you made these changes.

What you have made here is very close to ZenWriter's design, which I have been hunting for an equivalent for Android. If a distraction-free, relaxing and meditative writer is really what you are going for, you should either allow us to use our own background image or have a horizontal background, because right now the background is only wide enough for vertical screen. All the best.

It allows you to change fonts, but not to one that is fixed-width. I write my text documents in reStructuredText, and they look better with fixed-width fonts.
