About TouchOSC

TouchOSC is a modular OSC and MIDI control surface for Android.
It supports sending and receiving Open Sound Control and MIDI messages over Wi-Fi.

The application allows to remote control and receive feedback from software and hardware that implement the OSC or MIDI protocols such as Apple Logic Pro/Express, Ableton Live, Renoise, Pure Data, Max/MSP/Jitter, Max for Live, OSCulator, VDMX, Resolume Avenue/Arena, Modul8, Plogue Bidule, NI Traktor, NI Reaktor, Quartz Composer, Supercollider, vvvv, Derivative TouchDesigner, Isadora and many others.

The interface provides a number of customizable touch controls to send and receive messages:

Faders / Rotary controls / Encoder controls / Push buttons / Toggle buttons / XY pads / Multi-faders / Multi-push / Multi-toggles / Multi-xy pads / LEDs / Labels / Time & battery displays

Additionally the program can send Accelerometer data. The application comes with example layouts and completely custom layouts can be constructed using the free TouchOSC Editor application.

Please navigate to http://hexler.net/touchosc-android for more information, video demonstrations and download the free layout editor application for OS X, Windows and Linux and the free TouchOSC Bridge utility to easily connect to any MIDI-capable application on your computer.

Spent time trying to save money with the free versions but got frustrated and thought that for the price of a beer I should just try this. Delighted, this app works perfectly, the PC editor makes interfaces quick and easy to design and I had it talking to MaxMsp 5 minutes after I downloaded it, best €5 I've ever spent.

Much faster and easier to use than Lemur. It's a perfect match for Reaper if you have the time to create your own interface for it. BUGS: Toggle switches don't trigger till you've lifted your finger; Labels on the page selector dont show anymore; Multi-toggles lose their exclusive mode when copy/pasting. FEATURE REQUESTS: The layout transfer from the windows editor needs improved. It takes too many presses. Very tedious; Allow resizing of multiple objects at once; More colours; One dimensional toggle/push rows/columns

Please improve graphics editor. Work perfect on many heterogeneous networks over wire or over wireless. 99% of 1 star vote is from people that don't understand how to use OSC and networking... Silly boy out there: don't give bad note because you are ignorant!!!!

I keep finding new uses for this app! My latest setup is to use LiveControl on my tablet and use a custom layout on my phone as a foot switch. I'm also thinking of putting together something like Novation Launchpad. The only thing that doesn't work for me are the names of each page, they won't show on top of the page buttons. If I edit the layout size I can get them to display under the button, but everything else gets scaled as well. It's not a big deal, but it would be nice to see the names of the pages (I usually click a few times before finding the page I want to use). Thanks for saving me hundreds of dollars! I love this app!

Fantastic and really easy to setup with the osc bridge app.. way easier and more reliable than lemur. But the editor on touch osc is a bit basic and undefined (compared to lemur) possibly abandonware as no reply from dev and I can't get accepted to the forum's which require admin approval

One of the best! However it would be great to be able to use it over usb MIDI (supported by android 6) rather than the wireless osc bridge which relies on ever unreliable Internet and wireless connections!

T70%
by T####:

Please make use of the Android MIDI feature added in Android 6 and add material design (I can help you with the prototyping if you want, for free ofc). A color picker on the editor would be GREAT as well! Great app, keep up!

Works on all my devices and does exactly what it should. A real time and frustration saver.

Please give us some features for controlling lights, like a color picker or color swatch with adjustable sliders for hue & saturation, etc. Thanks.

Didn't work. Installed the proto version that's appear after this one on the playstore, tested, worked, then tested this one and worked too. Don't know why but now works.

Very useful with SuperCollider. Some controller types could be more flexible. The editor seems a bit dated and has a few bugs.

I bought this app on Android but want it also on my iPad. Do I have to pay again??

Allows me to control any parameter within Ableton, FL Studio, or Traktor with zero latency. The fact it supports multiple devices at once makes it even more powerful.

I can't find much help with setting this up on PC. A bunch of YouTube tutorials of kids saying "download this, now this, now this and this" NO. I want a straight answer.

This is absolutely a must have. I love being able to go where ever I like and controll my mixer. The best thing ever

K70%

Great app, easy to get up and running. I use in combination with software Max/MSP on laptop. Too bad you have to create custom layouts elsewhere (I downloaded free TouchOSC Editor on computer) and import, rather than being able to create custom layouts within app.

K70%
by K####:

No PC support how do I configure it? What a waste of my money. I need help please!!!!!!!!

K70%
by K####:

Works great except one problem. For some mysterious reason, there's some kind of grey dot with 3 dots in the bottom right corner of every layout. You can drag it to move it, but it doesn't appear to do anything nor it appears in TouchOSC Editor. Using Galaxy S6 and Win10 x64

K70%
by K####:

Needs better support for PC users. The help section leaves out a lot. Novice users will be very confused with this but perhaps its easier to learn than lemur. Loads of creative possibilities using touchosc however, once you get into it it's seriously good fun.

Can't connect, and I have before with another device so I know I can with my computer, but I also can't join the forum because I never receive a confirmation email and I have tried three different emails so I can't even ask for help. I want to rate five stars and keep the app and use it, but I will have to try and refund it if I can't figure this soon.

K70%
by K####:

When are you gonna implement the midi api? Touch daw has already done it..

K70%
by K####:

Wonderful app, easy to set up and use. I'll come back and give it the full 5 stars when you can import images into the layouts!

Works flawlessly with Ableton! Sometimes the menu screen scales to a tablet size on my phone. Also it would be nice if the menu ui was a little more flat. Right now, it kinda reminds me of the Honeycomb days...
