About Flym News Reader

Flym News Reader is a simple, modern, totally free (no ads) and opensource project which keeps you inform by fetching your websites/blogs and displaying them in a mobile-optimized way. It is based on the "Sparse RSS" reader.

It DOES NOT synchronize with any online feed reader, if you need synchronization this app is not for you.

Features:
- easily add new feeds thanks to the Google News or search feature (you can also subscribe to a new one from the browser via the share feature)
- light and dark themes
- offline reading including images
- import/export the feed list from OPML
- retrieve the full text of the feed when the content is truncated
- star your favorite entries
- search into your articles
- filter your feed by keywords or regular expressions
- custom widgets

More to come with the next version.

Feedly users: you can export your feeds to OPML at this address (http://cloud.feedly.com/#opml) and then import them into Flym News Reader.

Everything was fine. Set age limit of posts to one week. I added two podcast feeds. Loved functionality I was seeing. Literally half an hour later Flym had chewed through 1.4 GB of -- roughly half -- my monthly mobile data. Configuring "Retrieve the full text" in settings, or when viewing a podcast article, seems to download, then discard, the mp3 binary, and will do so every time I open the article again. Deleted, sadly.

Very nice. It's clean and effective, it gets the job done, and the offline reading capability is the most important feature to me. The feature called "Retrieve the full text" is a bit confusing, though. What this means in practice is: "download the linked web page and try to guess which part of the page is actual article content". The latter part of this otherwise useful feature does not always get it right, unfortunately. Secondly, when opening the app, I'd like to return to the feed last viewed (or perhaps a selected "preferred" feed) instead of to the Unread view. (I didn't see an issue tracker on the Github page, so I thought I'd post them here.) Thanks for a very useful feed reader!

RSS feed reading function is fine, I also like its search feature to get feeds quickly. But, frankly, I chose it for its the *offline* mode. Even though everything was set to "wifi only", etc., this morning it ate 22MB of my mobile data. WHY???? Not happy as long as my tariff is capped at 150MB :-(

Awesome app, clean, fast, responsive and fluid. Having a blast coming back to the old way of reading news in a refined format. Apps like AppyGeek and NewsRepublic are spamming users with trackers and ads, but this app is completely functional and ad-less for free. Would gladly make a donation to keep it that way, thanks again.

Love this app. One thing makes me sad. I can not quit the program. To completely shut it down I go into the phone settings and close it there. Can you add a Quit menu option? I do not need Flym running all the time, just use it when needed. Thanks in advance.

Exactly what I was looking for! It gives me full text of rss feeds. I'd have ditched Google newsstand if only this also could've magazines I've subscribed to. One can wish, right :)

Where is the widget gone. Tried Aospa-, Google Now, and Pixel Launcher. Hope the issue is on my side. However: *Best Newsreader App so far*

D70%
by D####:

Why did you remove the font color option from the widget? On dark themes (with transparency activated) it's useless now.

M70%
by M####:

Only this app gave me the option to remove images from news feed. Thank you very much. I was looking for that feature. Only this app has that feature in android platform. Other apps does not have this feature. I recommend this app for everyone who like to read news in one place with less data.

clunky interface. url it entered after search was wrong. unable to auto pull eds feed from a manual url

X70%
by X####:

Please give us the option to to change text colour on the widget. The dark text doesn't show up well on dark backgrounds.

This app is outdated in F-droid. Can developer continue to update it ?

D70%
by D####:

Loved it until recently. Now only about half the feeds I had subscribed to will update. They were all working previously. Checked the feed URLs and they are correct.

Not yet ready for primetime. Hoping the next veraion offers vetter search, better stuff. Goodluck!

T70%

Nice RSS reader. I would give it 5 stars if the widgets would update. With no update, there is little point in having widgets at all.

Added page, tried refresh, got error.

Y70%
by Y####:

Good all rounder. I like in particular the fact that I feel in control of the flow of information I get, unlike most other RSS readers.

A70%

My favorite RSS reader. One of the few that can retrieve full articles.

D70%
by D####:

It's a really fluid and minimal FeedReader. Please add some settings to customise reader mode

Please change the complete layout and try to make an app like Daily Hynt

The new upgrade made this a so-so app. I used to be able to click on the "eye" button to call back read articles instantly. Now it's a check button, and marks everything as read. So when I tried to bring up read pieces with it? Boom - everything's now marked read, and the undo function doesn't work. Oh, and you can't search for feeds anymore - all ERROR.

D70%
by D####:

Nice n best of all. Only drawback is dat we cannot delete da read article. Pls add this feature in ur nxt update.

X70%

Able to successfully import OPML export file from QuiteRSS Windows desktop app without issues which is easy way with keyboard to quickly build up a large feed library. An excellent replacement for the Original Pulse, reader before LinkedIN took that over and ruined it as provides similar clean, simple, but visually appealing article views The GUI menu system could be improved and standardized, but overall a great open source reader!

U70%
by U####:

Simple news reader. Does what it says, and so far does it well. No ads, just the advertised functionality, which is rare! Need to find the RSS link yourself though, no database of common sources except Google generic, which is a pity. Cannot follow a blog unless it has an actual feed, otherwise it responds "no results". Also the controls may seem clumsy, especially when trying to move feeds to a new category. Overall, happy with the app, beats everything else I tried so far.

by U####:

I used to love this basic no-bloat news reader. But for the past 4-5 months it no longer retrieves full text and it drains my battery after I back out of it. It just drained me 40% in less than two hours and my phone is hot to touch as a result. I have tried updating. But no luck. I am using Oneplus One with KitKat.

U70%
by U####:

I loved it. Simple, easy to use and great appearance. Plus it is light on my phone memory and provides instant notifications to enable me to follow my favourite feeds. I wish the developer could provide an option to delete old/obsolete feeds though. Long-press does not show any menus...

F70%
by F####:

I have a little problem with cloudflare ddos protection, that's blocking access to one of my feeds.. But overall this is best feed reader I found.

U70%
by U####:

No ability to hide read entries, which is a pain

N70%
by N####:

Tiny rss reader with best features a news reader can have. It get the adress and show the news. Have options to hide old ones and show full news without a browser. Awesome

U70%
by U####:

The best, but why did you change the "show/hide read entries" button to "mark all read"? It would be nice to get it back or at least if that button would be configurable.
