Test Your Hearing for Android
I would give this app 0 stars if I could. I downloaded it for my sister because she was having trouble hearing but we dont have enough money to go to the doctor to get her checked out. This stinking app said that she could here like a mouse. She can barley here the TV when it's volume is at its highest. This app is ridiculous. I would advise you not 2 get it.
I have been told that my hearing was not up to par ,many times IAM saying what? what did you say OR are you talking to me,this app lets me know that I hear like a chicken, don't SOUND good to me,next step a physician,Thank you! Great device!
Surprisingly thorough test app. I was impressed that my first go round with the tests were quite accurate. In fact, it said that my hearing age was 60-70, I just turned 59 and I have seen that some frequencies are now harder to pick up on. The tests reflected this quite correctly! As for my instrument... it said keyboard. I am, in fact, an organist. Pretty darned good, I'd say!
First of all I am completely deaf in my left ear and have limited hearing in my right ear. This test, which I got for a laugh and just to see if they could pick up my deafness, said my hearing is as good as an ox, I've got no idea what that means. It does not do the test in each ear separately so the results are based on both ears. If your worried about your hearing then go to the doctors and ask for a proper hearing test
I was curious as I have just have a hearing test done at the hospital and i had far worse hearing outcome with this app. Don't rely on it. Get it done professionally. It's flawed
I have moderate hearing loss. My audologist said i had the hearing of a 70 year old and that's what this program said. The user interface isn't verb good but that's secondary.
Being neither phisician, musician or anything of sort, I don't know the quality, accuracy and side effect of this apk. However, it works, and can detect my age relatively accurate (5 stars mostly for that).
Some other reviews say that they hear the static of noises being played that they would not otherwise be able to hear but as long as you have good enough quality earbuds/earphones, that 'static' you hear is actually the sound being played at a very low frequency such as 10 Hz.
I use a moto G & This is a good app! It really is an actual hearing test!! If you have tried any other hearing test apps.you will know many of them are just reading material pertaining to hearing tests with NO actual test in the app!? Very Aggravating!!! If ya want an actual hearing test. This is the app!!! Did U say Something??? ¯_(ツ)_/¯
It tests the frequency range of your hearing with a decent test protocol, but you're allowed to turn up the volume. It would be nice to see an audiogram, i.e., the threshold of hearing compared to an 'average' person. I understand that differences between headphones make it hard to do this with 3 dB accuracy, but since the normal threshold varies by 60 dB at the low end and 25 dB at the high end of the spectrum, it some indication would still be possible. Likewise, with the frequency differentiation test, it would be nice to see some statistics to compare against others, rather than "drummer, keyboard, singer".
Tests highlighted loss of sound in lower register, of which I was aware, and it also pinpointed my age. Must try this app on my elderly mother who claims she hears like a bat but always has TV on loud enough to waken the dead!
I'm not going to be testing my hearing everyday, obviously, but this was a great lil tool to see if I really can't hear, or if it's psychological (selective hearing). It's psychological, lol!!! I'm 37 and I hear as someone 15 yrs younger, yay! Recommended to a few friends, too.
For a long while I have wondered how my hearing had been affected by years of Rock&Roll concerts, and spacing-out in my basement listening to albums. This let me know that since my kids don't speak in frequencies a dog can't hear it IS them.
I am only 19 years old and it says i have hearing like a 60-65 year old! i have always thought that i had to ask people to repeat what they have said or struggle to hear people. i went for a real hearing test and i need hearing aids! if this tells you, your hearing is over the age you are then i suggest that you go for a proper one because it is true and i have had my hearing aids for 1 week and i can hear lots more!
I'm a rock guitar player 55 yrs old. I was concerned my hearing was very damaged but this thing nailed my hearing as a 50 to 60 yr old. Good to know I haven't done too much damage! I'm gonna go crank up my guitar amp now!
Gave me a general idea of where I'm at with my hearing which I have felt was not up to par but now confirmed. At least I know now I have a basis for going to a doctor and having it checked!
I suffer from tinnitus and sometimes need subtitles on tv as the dr/ear specialist says I have nothing wrong with hearing and to just "live with it".. I am 24... This each time always says I have the hearing of a 60 year old in my bad ear. And 24-30 year old on good ear. I belive this more then my Dr.
This is a very well-structured test, with adequate education about the hearing test and changes of hearing with age. It should help you make up your mind whether to go to your doctor and get your hearing checked or not yet.
I think this is an interesting idea but this app is ridiculous. Humans hear between 20 and 20,000 Hz with absolutely perfect hearing. The high frequencies drop as we age. It is extremely doubtful that many of us beyond the age of 16 or so can still hear this way. It would be more appropriate to test 250-8000 Hz. Also, to whomever posted that he had his hearing tested by an ENT, I seriously doubt that. The reimbursement is too poor for a physician to do that.

For what it is - its very good. An indication of hearing ability - with the limitations of equipment used to play it on - together with all the unknowns of manufacturers using short cuts to get an electronic component to appear as a higher spec'd component whilst actually not performing as such. Read the developer's notes. 'Dr'.Diane get a brain - are u seriously comparing this App with all the variables present to calibrated medical equipment set-up under perfect conditions!???
Recently completed H&S course, included module on hearing damage. Pleased to find I have a hearing age of A little over half my actual age. Confirms what I thought. Great app, easy to use.
...for people over 25. The problem is that phone DACs (digital analog converters) don't accurately produce frequencies outside the 20-20,000Hz range. Mainly because people over 25 can't hear outside that spectrum. Likewise, headphone typically don't have a reliable operation outside that range either. Still a great app though.
My audio clunks as the low freq is switched on and off, giving a false clue if there is a tone or not. Might be worth running a zero hz signal as a null test? Useful app tho.
I figured my hearing was off, but I didn't think it was quite so poor as that! Granted I won't take this as a professional result, but it does seem to be a clear indication that a check-up is due. I really like the way this app is designed; I've had a provincial hearing test done many years ago and the procedure was very similar. An excellent app and great place to start if you think your hearing is impaired.
Make sure you have a decent pair of headphones that reproduce the sounds for more accurate results. I had to turn up the volume on several in order to hear the tone. My range was 17.5Hz to just above 15kHz. I'm sure the lowest of tones was more feel but my ear buds were able to put something out so that was cool.
I tried about 3 apps, and this one was by far the best. They both tests, the second one tests to see how well you hear intervals. I was super curious since i was a pro singer, but had difficulty tuning a guitar by ear. It confirmed i couldn't heart some tight intervals. Way cool!
Yep, that is accurate. But not over 70 til next year. Good side: I have to get the ladies up close so I can understand their higher pitch voices. I don't object to that. Bad side: Only heard in right earbud. Would like option to select left or right. Then becomes 5 STAR !!!!!
It's important to remember that the test can only validate that you can hear within the constraints of the frequency range of your hardware. When I used a good set of ear buds, I was able to hear better than when I used a cheap set. The results were quite consistent when I did the test at different times, with the same earbuds. Thanks for letting me determine where my hearing is faulty without going to a doctor!
This it's great. Of nothing else out sparks your interests on a significant subject most people don't think about. I am 27 and scored in the 30-35 year old rang of hearing. Low frequencies were easy for me
I work at a chicken farm and it's very loud there. I recently came home with a ringing in my left ear and sometimes it sounds like I have water in it. This test reassured my hearing isn't shot in that ear. Thank you
Showed my girlfriend the sound dedicits in the higher ranges, so no wonder I couldnt hear her. After she cuffed me across the head several times, my hearing has now drastically improved. Or so SHE tells me. Ha ha. Maybe its my attention span thats faulty? There MUST be an app for that!!!
Playback volume can be changed during test which is ok but not accounted for in results. Also, results page, while detailed, cannot be saved for review or analysis. Results shown in (random) frequency order so assessing your loss pattern is difficult.
Why bother trying to make an app if you cant even get it right? Hang up your USB cables and try another gig! App keeps freezing and dont hear not even the first tone, deleting asap.
Good, useful application. Tested on a Galaxy Note 4 with cheap earbuds first to later on Sennheiser HD 280 pro closed, circumaural monitoring headphones. You need a closed, padded headphones (that would suppress the sound from other sources) to get accurate results. After all in a real testing, you would be in an anechoic chamber. To the author: You could offer a continuation on the results (say the lowest high frequency the person could not hear) with the ability to increase the volume (> 100%) and see where they stand (small loss to complete loss). The audio test works well, once you get past unclear request about repeating the sound ("yes", if you did not hear it. The sound is repeated with increased volume), and continuing with the test ("yes"). It is not clear if the volume can (or should be) adjusted, once the mid-range test tone at the start of the test is heard. There probably should be a mid-range frequency test tone to set the volume before the start of the test. The results of the test and "equivalent age were consistent with what I know from professional hearing tests. For the difference tone test, the tone is played from 2 seconds, then for an additional 2 seconds where the pitch may be increased (answer yes) or may not be increased (answer no). Occasionally no sound is played. The correct answer is "no sound heard". If the test subject answers "yes", then it is a false detection. Too many false detections invalidate the test. The test does not appear to measure the volume required to make a detection. Given the price ($0) this is a very interesting illustration of a real hearing test, but no substitute. hha

Seems to work fine. The test results appear to be about the same as the one that I had done 4 days ago by a professional testing center. I do have hearing loss and knowing where I was already helped with evaluating this app. It would be nice if the app could generate a graph that I can send to the printer.
Thought this was a well designed test although I did think they could if done a bit better jonin the instructions...

Tried this app first without headphones in normal room and results were disappointing. Then put in ear buds and retook in quiet room. Results consistent with my own professional medical assessment. Hearing of a ferret, very sensitive to noise. Recommend this app, but usual caveats apply: YMMV, and this is for fun, not clinical findings. If concerned about hearing, get professional testing.
