DjRun: Running with Music for Android
The button to buy the pro version does nothing. No pro version in Play Store. App last updated 2012, so possibly Abandonware :(
This is the only app I've found that allows you to use your own music while matching your run's BPM, which is awesome, but it does a terrible job of it. I can live with it switching songs every 3 seconds like it's got radio-ADD (I do the same thing), but its selections are so random that it usually slows down when I speed up and vice versa. The interface is also buggy - I'd like to try Pro to see if those settings can improve the BPM matching, but I can't even purchase it without the app freezing on me.
Won't let me buy pro version
It does what I imagined it would.
The true redeeming feature is "dynamic tempo" which needs to be purchased via the PRO version. The rest of the app isn't really too useful unless you can keep your running pace consistent; otherwise the song will change the instant you stop for a breather. The concept is there for sure, but the delivery is kinda poor.
I'm a sixtysomething who went from 24/7 sitting to walking briskly about four miles every morning. I do much better playing music set to my pace, but I've had trouble getting that set up on my Amazon Fire phone without cellphone service. I downloaded a bunch of Amazon Prime music but getting a playlist set up has been like taking a math class. I've tried to sideload a number of bpm-based apps but most won't work on my Fire phone. This morning I walked the first time with DJRun and WOW! Not only did it work fantastically and flawlessly, I didn't even have to load the jerky Amazon Prime Music app, which heats up and eats up so much of my phone. I just started up DJRun and Endomondo, and both apps worked together wonderfully. The best part is, I can download a ton of music I've never heard before and DJRun finds new work for me that fits with my pace. If I don't like something, I can rapidly skip past it and get a new song without breaking my stride. Combined with Amazon Prime, DJRun is a great music discovery and curation tool. (Can't seem to buy DJRun Pro, though.) If you are an Amazon Prime user, get this!
It analyzed songs initially, but only a 3rd of them & I can't look them up without the pro version. The in-app purchase doesn't work & I can't find it in Google's store.
App is no longer maintained and I can't even buy the pro version. It was the only android run tempo app avail. Sad times.
Love this app because I into sport running I'm only 15 and I am fit and healthy Yolo keep up get running and be hard like usain bolt 2015
When it works is ace. When it doesn't is annoying as hell. Unable to go pro as not supported by Google store?
Liked the idea of running with music based on my tempo. Was willing to by pro version but each time I try nothing would happen.
Idea is fantastic but I find it does not get the selection quite right. The sonds are off a tiny bit, enough to make it too difficult for me to adjust my running rhythm. I do not know if it is because the way it analyses the music or whether it is due to the accelometer. I wear my smartphone in an armstrip Would be great if the application allowed me to manually calibrate to get it right. Now the beat is a tiny bit too quick, so it is not in sync with steps per minute
Spotty bpm detection aside, if I try to unlock the paid version, it tells me payment methods declined and I've tried Google play credit, PayPal, and credit cards and none work. Clearly not a well supported app.
The simple version had worked well for me, but when I attempted in-app purchases, a bug has caused every method to decline-- which means not being able to use or build playlists.
Liked this app...paid for pro..no pro. Just tried deleting and reinstalling from play store...said it would now restart in pro...still no pro! Arrgh! 2 emails to the Dev w no reply. DONT buy until this is fixed!!
BPM detection is not very good, the online lookup does not work on any of my songs(the main reason I went pro), reverts to unpaid every time it starts, does not detect deletion of songs and as such tries to play non-existing files during my run...
I bought the pro version, but it doesn't recognize this and the features won't work. Big disappointment.
If you have upgraded to pro you constantly have to reload the app for the pro settings to be in effect it is kinda annoying.
Nuff said. Oh, and no support. Zero support.
Useless app on my HTC M8.
Seems like a possibly good app, but if you handle all music through Gmusic then this isn't for you.
I run/walk with this app (free version) all the time. Although the UI is basic, it is functional and I prefer apps that do one thing and do it well, which this app does. I have not had any issues with it picking up ringtones or whatever. A few things it does not do (will be sending suggestions to support later tonight) which would be a giant + and give it five stars in my book: 1. Doesn't seem to respond to hardware controls (when running it is a pain to turn the screen on to skip a song if I am not in the mood for it, i'd rather just hold down the volume up key and have it skip). 2. It would be nice to have an option to eliminate playing power of 2 bpm songs (for example, If I am running at 180 strides/minute, it will sometimes put on a 90bpm or 45 bpm song, which seem too slow for running).
A great concept, but I don't like how you need the pro version to control which files are scanned.
App needs to scan all media which can take a very long time, suggested to dev this is changed. Trouble detecting bpm on drum and bass tracks. Dev has refunded the purchase after discussing future development of the app.
Saw this on life hacker and thought I'd try it out. Free version doesn't provide any value to me, and can't find Pro version that provides mission features on the Play Store. Deleted.
Good concept, but it is still beta-quality software in my opinion. No crashes, but a lot of the features only "kind-of" work. I eagerly await future releases, as there is definite room for improvement, and once that improvement comes, I can see this becoming a must-have app for anyone who does cardio exercise.
I am liking this app, just don't think it's 5* worthy yet. No crashes here. Big pluses for it picking songs who's BPM where 1/2 of my stride. Big minus for it selecting all sound files, including podcasts and ringtones. Let us tell it what folders to pick. GUI is pretty bland too.
Was really excited to find this app, however I've found it only correctly analysed about 30% of music on my device. As such, the music it selects is more limited than the manual playlists I had created for exercise, defeating the purpose of installing. When it gets it right it is very good, but after 4 hours of use I've found it doesn't get it right often enough.
I have a love hate relationship with this app. The free version is extremely basic so I forked out the $2.49 for the Pro version to get all of the features. A small investment considering all of the other money I spend on running gear. Pros: * Brings in all of your music playlists * Goes through the music on your phone and calculates the bpm of each song relatively accurately * Allows you to speed up and slow down songs on your playlist or set a bpm rate to pick songs Cons: * Support is terrible. They have no web page info. You can get some support from their Google+ and Facebook page but that is usually form other users * Every time I use the app it does not recognize that I have purchased the Pro version. I have to go to the settings page and select Restore the Pro Version. Definitely a pain * Every now and again the app will crash and you will lose all of your bpm settings. Since I have 16GB of music on my phone you can imagine how long that takes to reconfigure.. All things considered this is a very useful app as long as you can live with the idiosyncracies. I just wish that they had some sort of support to help you through the problems.
Liked this app...paid for pro..no pro. Just tried deleting and reinstalling from play store...now the pro features work! Excited to try them all out. Wish the Dev noted this in the instructions.
Looks like it would be a great app, but after upgrading to DJ Run Pro, I'm still not able to access any of the things that I paid for. It keeps saying that I need to upgrade to DJ Run Pro first, and when I hit "buy now", it says, "you already own this app." If I can ever get it to work, I might give another review, but right now I have no choice other than giving it one star.
Every time i start the program it starts in free version (even though i paid for pro) and looses all my settings. I have to long press the restore pro version button several times and restart the program and reset all my settings each time. When it works, it works well. Unfortunately it takes way to long to setup each time. I do hope for an update that will correct this problem.
The bpm detection is terrible. You cant rely on it.
Lost a star bc it takes time to start playing, and sometimes thinks between songs. But Totally awesome overall! I'm running and every time my foot hits the ground right along with the drum beat! Very inspiring!
This app crashes on startup if networking is not working. Seems like it should be a tad more graceful than committing programmatic suicide.
Sometimes it hangs but works nicely
Good app esp. for interval training. Could add support to record running stats so you can compare the actual pace u ran to what it was supposed to be.
It's great, but there is one huge flaw in this app. Every once in a while this app will "lose" all the songs on the SD card and no matter what you do you can't get them back unless you clear the settings and relaunch search. If you catch this before you go to sleep it's no problem because you can search while you sleep, but you can't enjoy this app if you find out right before your workout. This problem is way too big and happens too often for me to give it above three stars.
I've started using it along with the C25K program. - Firstly, the free version is good enough to get you hooked. You get your music playing to the cadence of the run. 1st * - Secondly, it coexists easily with other running apps such as Runtastic, RunKeeper or Endomondo. 2nd * - Thirdly, the free version scans your library in the background and picks up the tempo, but you need to have the WiFi enabled as it checks for the songs online. In the paid version you get to Tap the tempo, look it up online, enter manually, or let the app analyze the audio in real-time. 3rd * - Fourthly, you can adjust quite a few settings: Sensitivity of cadence detection, Matching accuracy, Repetition vs. Accuracy ratio, Song tempo difference in %, plus you can run to multiples or fractions of the song's original tempo. In the paid version you can even let the app slow down / speed up the song to match the tempo without distorting the playback too music. 4th * - Finally, in the paid app you get the Training Mode and built-in programs and this is where the DjRun flies. You can even edit and set your cadence and time. 5th * The only thing I miss is a more complete USER MANUAL. Good Job. Thanks.
