Car Dock Home v3 for Android
UNINSTALL NOTE: This app will be a 'Device Administrator' if you activate the 'Lock screen on undock' feature. You must deactivate the feature, or remove the app from your phone's device administrator before you can uninstall. Go to your phone's settings, Location & Security, Device Administrator, disable Car Dock Home v3, then uninstall as usual.
Add your favorite apps, shortcuts and widgets to as many as 7 screens, for easy access in the car. Defaults to a screen of 2x3 cells for large easy touch buttons.
Shortcut and app buttons can be renamed and given custom images.
* Full size widget support
* Landscape dialer pad (work in progress, but functions)
* Landscape contacts, and starred contacts
Supports many automatic settings when phone enters/exits car mode, like
* enable gps
* disable wifi
* enable bluetooth
* all volumes to max ( bugs: misses navigation volume, and ringer... )
* turn off device on undock
Layout customizations
* Landscape/Portrait lock
* icon grid anywhere from 1x1 to 4x4
* full screen or not
* paging buttons, or not
* smooth scrolling like your home app.
* Icons scaling options.
Screen timeout
* set timeout/inactivity page independent of start page. ( This is why people think it changes pages on it's own... cause it does... but you can control it. )
* OR pick a widget that will be displayed as a screen saver.
Builtins
* Landscape friendly contact list & starred contacts list
* Navigation link that attempts to resume navigation if maps app is running ( not 100% reliable, a work in progress )
* exit car mode
* visit desktop without leaving car mode.
Your Input is Welcome!
Note: home key while in Car Dock app only takes you to start page if Car Dock app is set as default car home and you are in car mode. Car Dock does not automatically put the phone in car mode... Try google's 'Car Home' icon to launch car mode on froyo, or my 'Car Dock Control' for eclair/froyo/gingerbread...
If you don't like my dialer and contacts, you can use your own... Many complain that the stock Android dialer/contacts app doesn't support landscape, but I've found that it does, but on many phones you have to enable auto rotation in the dialer app preferences.
I loved this app on my Bionic. On the Galaxy S4 the screen times out, making thid app useless.
This app is good but there are a couple of annoying issues. It needs an option to turn off edit mode, too often I am trying to use a widget and the "clear item" option pops up. This is a major useability issue that needs fixed. Would be great if you could move or resize things rather than just add/remove.
I tried them all. Broken hearted that the project seems dead. Any chance or letting someone pick up development?
The only thing the screen defaults to is exit and desktop which is it's just another exit. You have to fully customize the whole thing yourself. I don't want to waste my time.
Galaxy tab 7 plus, latest update works in terms of the soft button issue but any widgets added disappear after a reboot, making it useless and frustrating
Love this app, simple and easy to use. - BUT can't get into the settings, they seem to have disappeared. Is there a fix? On Galaxy S5.
Potentially brilliant. Unfortunately has not seen any development now for some years.
Used this for years, but it's getting long in the tooth and is now burning through the battery faster than the charger can keep up. Time to swap it out, I'm afraid.
This does everything it says for me. Goes into car mode, automatically links with my Bluetooth, turns off my WiFi..... docked a star because it force closes when I try to edit icons, and the app appears to have been abandoned. Not its fault but worth noting, the bigger the phone the more it will vibrate = buttons can be less responsive while on the highway.
I love the design and flexible options, but the icons simply don't respond well. It is not very useful when I push an icon twice and it gets deleted because I pushed a millisecond too long.
Love how I can make it look the way I want. Only suggestion is to be able to move icons around on and between screens
v2 used to work really well. v3 on Samsung Galaxy S3 a direct dial icon doesn't dial. Does nothing. No response from developer. Uninstalling. Too bad because this used to be a really great app...
To get full benefit of this app you must download third party widgets to display on the home screens. *improvements to be made* 1. Grid guidelines in edit mode to make it easier to place widgets 2. Click and drag widgets needs to be added, current add and delete is painful. 3. Save page layout and manage pages needs to be added 4. Basically make editing the same as the latest Android native. 5. Share layouts forum 6. *Built ins to add* battery status, gps satellite status, power status, power buttons.
But after the last update it isn't opening while the phone is in car mode like it used to. The home button no longer opens this app, and I don't get any prompt for which app to use. Not sure why it stopped working...
I am still getting force closes that point to this app, but not as often with the recent update.
Like being able to add different widgets and apps to the screen. Since I do not use the stock navigation I can put a different one on the screen. Only reason did not give 5 stars is after the upgrade to ICS the icons in landscape mode do not scale.
Just upgraded on Verizon; first time with a Samsung. I love your car mode app and would love to keep using it, but I can't seem to change the car mode default app. In the settings, it doesn't even list a car mode app as being set - so there's no default to reset. Manually triggering car mode puts the phone in car mode but launches... nothing. No new default home of any kind. Is this this something Verizon has disabled on its S5s?
Add a default setting (just like Bluetooth and WiFi) so there is an option to have screen brightness at 100%. Also different grid dimensions for each of the 7 screens would be a big ++++ great app overall
If tou dont like this app use sygic is the best app in the word take my word for it
Turn data on when docked in settings. I keep 4g off to conserve battery power. Convient to turn data on as a setting when docked.
Work just fine,good concept with minor flaws and nothing look like screenshot.Think this app has potential.
Was great on my older phones, but doesn't work on the Note 4 because it doesn't have a menu button. :(
I'm sure this app is brilliant on other phones but really isn't any use on a Samsung Galaxy S3. It doesn't alter any of the settings (e.g. driving mode, GPS) It doesn't prevent the screen from locking, which is the main reason I need an app like this.
It worked fine until Motorola forced the Ice Cream Sandwich software update to my Droid 4, now the Icons will not resize and they are too tiny to see in the car.
After upgrading to ICS.. i can't drag and arrange tile app icons
It installs two icons, both take you back to the main icon. I can't use it. I uninstalled program.
Does what i want it to, but very laggy switching between screens and slow to launch selected app. Had to press multiple times sometimes. Uninstalling from RAZR maxx.
Car Dock Home v3 running on my HTC Vivid ICS smartphone doesn't start any of the "Car Mode System Settings". I'd like it to turn on GPS and Bluetooth when it starts up, but if it doesn't, I don't mind. Car Dock Home v3 is a nice improvement on the HTC included Car Panel and the inclusion of widgets (Power Control) means I can start the radios manually.
Rare app that combines a plain launcher screen with car mode settings. But it's a very archaic launcher that I'm surprised hasn't been updated at all. You can't even drag and drop anything much less do any of the other functions modern launchers have built in.
Like the layout possibilities and other features, but whenever I get a phone call, I can't answer it. The phone app crashes and my phone locks up for a couple of minutes.
I see people complaining about the app not looking like the screenshots... The screenshots are demonstrating the app with home screen widgets in use. You have to install your own widgets (and whatever widgets you have, which is the awesome part). After upgrading to Kit Kat, it won't launch when I dock it anymore, and messages posted on the developer's website months ago are still in the moderator queue waiting to be approved, so it seems like it's been abandoned. This is a shame, as it was truly awesome.
Worked great with Android 2.3.4. Upgraded to Android 4 ICS (factory upgrade) and now experiencing extremely unpredictable response to screen press action. Almost impossible to add new icons - press and press and press on screen, but menu never shows up. Also, the built-in night mode widget doesn't seem to do anything. Please fix.
When you do a power cycle on your phone ALL your settings are gone so you have to rebuild the layout again and again
It took a lot of time, a lot of differnt apps but I finally have the dashboard that I have been looking for. Invoking everything thing that sets Android apart from all the others - customization. Not quite fully hands free but very minimal effort for almost anything you have to do while you drive. Do whatever your twisted mind can come up with but feel free to hit me up for a list of apps and screenshots for how I set mine up. seannysbox@gmail.com/Samsung GS2
I have my car dock installed upside down so I can place it next to the A-Pillar and run the hardwire kit down inside the pillar trim. The Ap does not allow the screen to invert 180 degrees, even though the native Android screen does. Please add this option.
This looks nothing like the screenshots. Can't find a way to get speed/heading on screen. Uninstalled.
1. Disable screen timeout ONLY when connected to power. Hate when it unknown to me discharged the battery. 2. First call goes to speaker as it should, but consecutive calls go to earpiece. 3. Disable the Back and Home buttons. The only way to properly close the app. AND to exit the car mode should be the Exit tile. When exiting via Back or Home buttons it improperly leaves Car Mode on. 4. Have the app to properly restore Wi-Fi state upon exit. Thanks for an otherwise great application and for reading.
Used this on my phone for months -- why won't it work on my 7? I don't see why it's blacked out.
Now with another device and a new version of this app, I decided to have a go at it (since Car Home Ultra just gets worse each day). And... surprise! It works! PROS: simple, no frills, smooth, small. CONS: home screen scrolling doesn't "wrap around" (must scroll aaalll the waaaaay back to the other end); can't move icons around (must delete, and add in new position - bummer when you notice you long-clicked at the wrong position). And no speed info, etc. Galaxy S4 won't enter car mode :-(

For some reason this app is very sensitive to wobbly taps. That is where you tap but your finger moves slightly and the app thinks you're swiping. Of course this happens most in the car. Fix this and the app is usable.
