What are users saying about Lothian Buses M-Tickets

Will always crash on initial startup, every time. So you have to load it up a minute or so before need it. Have the ticket ready to go and don't hit activate until you step on the bus, especially at busy times. And don't think you can load it up, then check Facebook. Nope. It'll crash when you go back to it. Almost like it's a feature, not a flaw. And all this makes it very frustrating if you've run to get the bus, as you'll be faffing about with a faulty app, holding the bus up.

Y70%
by Y####:

If it worked, this app would make bus travel simple. Instead it crashes nearly every time I attempt to open it. It then takes an age to load up, annoying everyone wanting to leave the bus stop. And it malfunctions, not always displaying every element of the m-ticket, which I've been turned away for. I don't understand how these bugs haven't been fixed.

Q70%
by Q####:

I use other apps from Corethree to get tickets (Metro bus & B&H) and they are good. Just thought as I'm in Edinburgh I'd use the Lothian buses app to buy tickets, like I'd do at home. Minimum £10 spend? What. No I'm just up for the day. So the low rank is based on having to find cash, then change to use a bus.

Y70%
by Y####:

This app used to work fine, but has been very unreliable lately. It hangs for ages on startup, sometimes crashes whilst opening and also restarts the phone. Not ideal when trying to use crutches and having to fumble around for change.

Y70%
by Y####:

Even though my phone (Huawei P9 lite) is not rooted, passes Android Pay SafetyNet requirements it still wont work, claiming it is rooted. Pointless. The Google Play store claims it is fully compatible with my device, by the way. Lothian Buses pull your finger out and hire an App Developer thats not incompetent please. In the past I have used it and its been fine (older phone that was ironically rooted, before they changed it.)

D70%
by D####:

When it works this app is fine and much better than faffing to find change. If only it was more reliable - you have to open it and get it ready ages in advance of the bus arriving and keep checking to make sure it hasn't crashed. I have missed loads of buses waiting for it to load.

R70%
by R####:

Would be great of it actually worked. Previous versions were buggy and prone to stalling and crashing. Latest update won't even boot properly. IF YOU DO DOWNLOAD THIS POORLY DESIGNED PRODUCT ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOU HAVE CHANGE. It also has a 10 pound minum purchase which isn't great for folk who meed the odd bus on the fly and currently means it keeps your cash locked up in unusable tickets.

Y70%
by Y####:

Initially gave this a good review but after upgrading my phone it's so unreliable. It constantly crashes. You have to open 5 mins before your bus comes to ensure your ticket is ready and even then it will stop suddenly. An absolute pain. I think ill be going back to change for the buses.

V70%
by V####:

The app is exactly like their bus service; unreliable, slow and randomly doesn't work. It's now stopped accepting both of my cards, declines one of them (which works everywhere else) and the other just comes up with 'error'. So the app is now useless as I can't buy any more tickets. Don't waste your memory on this

U70%
by U####:

Crashes on startup or will not open tickets. By the time it does or you restart your phone the tram is away. Stuck to cash... I will have to, can't keep being late for work!

K70%
by K####:

The fact that you have to spend a minimum of £10 to make a purchase makes this app completely useless for those of us that travel occasionally. What's the point in offering tickets of low value then?

F70%
by F####:

App failing twice and having just spent £12 on tickets was unable to use as a Lothian bus driver wished to debate the running speed of the app and would not let me use the bus. Continual problems. All other apps running smoothly.

O70%
by O####:

It wasn't great, now it's even worse. Crashes pretty much every time I go to use it. Me and the driver spend a lot of time staring at a blank screen while it thinks about working. Poor effort.

Y70%
by Y####:

It's really annoying having to set your date of birth having to click through the years month by month, and you have to do it every time. Really stupid having to decide what tickets you need in advance. You should be able to add credit then pick the tickets as you need them, sometimes I need a daysaver sometimes not.

Y70%
by Y####:

It should be so much better but the number of times it freezes on start up suggests there are bidden gremlins. I've missed transport as I couldn't get it to load or been forced to pay cash which then defeats the purpose. Very frustrating.

Y70%
by Y####:

Previous versions offered fast access to tickets. The process now goes: launch app, wait for it to crash, launch it again, wait several seconds for tickets to appear... Takes ages, delays the bus, frustrating for driver and passenger.

X70%
by X####:

The idea of electronic tickets is fine. But app crashes often and the 5 min time out is ridiculous as you can see the bus and activate a ticket then it expire before you get on board due to bus queuing behind another and not opening its doors. Also the tickets expire if you don't use them in time but they don't return your cash. Why not treat it as e-cash on the app that never expires rather than as a number of tickets then if the price of a ticket goes up they don't loose out and nor does the customer.

Y70%
by Y####:

Now working on OnePlus One with latest cyanogen update, plus registering multiple cards working. Now just need to work on the speed of the application which is a very slow to open. Sometimes fails to open stating is unable to get internet access - this shouldn't matter if you're just buying tickets.

X70%
by X####:

Hangs and crashes almost daily. Which means I often cannot access my tickets and have to resort to cash, and at least twice miss a bus completely as app crashed and I didn't have cash. I've never seen any app hang/crash as much as this one! Would also be better if it supported Android Pay to buy the tickets, as this would simplify the user experience.

Y70%
by Y####:

Terrible - crashes all the time or just doesn't respond. I've been unable to get on the bus three times in the last week and therefore lost money as I was unable to make full use of the day tickets I'd purchased. They should issue refunds for every journey you miss - bet that would motivate them to improve the app.

Y70%
by Y####:

This app crashes all the time.im always afraid I'm gonna miss my bus because of this. Please get some developers to fix this. Also the fact you have a minimum amount to spend is ridiculous. And I should be able to have tickets among different devices, that's why I created an account.

Y70%
by Y####:

Minimum spending of 10 pounds makes it completely useless for the stated purpose. Purchase does not work on rooted devices (this is the FIRST app ever I've seen doing that).

Y70%
by Y####:

Really poor. Slow to load. £10 minimum spend. Tickets expire after 6 months. Can't use single ticket across bus and tram. Lothian buses have a captive market Edinburgh and they know it.

A70%
by A####:

Tickets disappear rip off - too often I've had active tickets disappear and then after an accusing conversation with ticket inspector and an attempt to activate another ticket have them reappear. one occasion a bus ticket showed as activated for no reason along with the tram ticket I had used.

I70%
by I####:

Would give it 0 if I could. Inexcusably terrible transport app (not helped by the frequently dreadful attitude from bus drivers.) Don't rely on if you can avoid!!

B70%
by B####:

One star for requiring a minimum purchase of £10. And for being a separate app from the TfE app. And configuring the app so you can't take a screenshot of the purchase receipt or the tickets that you have in case there is some issue.

W70%
by W####:

Consistently drops connection. Didn't transfer my tickets to a new device so they're gone losing me money. Now it refuses to connect to server at all! Absolute trash that will steal your money

Y70%
by Y####:

Switched devices and lost all of my tickets, 'reseting' them from the server didn't restore them for 10 hours?! Remove the £10 minimum, a business your size should not be sacrificing user experience for the sake of what I can only assume are transaction fees.

Y70%
by Y####:

Useless during rush hour. Takes 2 minutes to open, if it doesn't crash, due to response time from server. Have been unable to board several times due to this

H70%
by H####:

Really annoying app. The app for no apparent reason has started crashing on start-up. I can't use the tickets that I just bought. Fix this broken app. Just saw that corethree's other transport apps also attract a 2 star rating... I guess they can't seem to get anything right. Maybe it's time Lothian buses gets someone more competent to make an app

Y70%
by Y####:

Latest version lost my tickets and crashes repeatedly. Otherwise... its painfully slow even on a fast phone and it takes something like five presses just to display a pre-purchased ticket to a driver. I normally prep the phone before the bus arrives but if you're catching a bus in a hurry it drives the bus drivers insane. There's no doubt that the user experience could be vastly improved and a more optimised app could literally speed up the bus service!

Y70%
by Y####:

The concept is good. Execution is poor: - £10 minimum spend which isn't great for tourists, in a city that attracts many. - requires separate tickets for bus and tram (both cost the same), which means one has to guess how many of each to buy - app often stalls, particularly at the bus stop (which frustrates some bus drivers)

Y70%
by Y####:

I wish they would improve this app. Its so slow! And keeps getting errors. Not ideal when you're trying to jump on a bus quickly!

T70%
by T####:

Need to speed up the opening sequence. If the bus turns up early and you try to get the app up and running it takes too long to present the tickets. You end up delaying everyone!

Y70%
by Y####:

Great when it works. Unfortunately it barely ever does. Crashes on startup, crashes after activating tickets causing lost money. Unbelievable that this is the app for Edinburgh's transport system. Shameful.

Y70%
by Y####:

Just crashes all the time. Sometimes you can use it but don't relly on being able to get on a bus with it. Also when it does work it needs to be connected to mobile data

S70%
by S####:

Can't use it on a 100 bus from Drumbrae into Edinburgh city centre. Also it takes a long time between opening and finally showing the pre-bought ticket. I think the minimum £10 spend and the fact the tickets have an expiry date is very poor, occasional customers can't use it. Given that Lothian busses are saving on paper tickets using this app they should offer a % off the ticket price.

Y70%
by Y####:

Stupid that I'd have to unroot my phone to allow payment. Android 7.1.1 rarely loads properly. You're only allowed to transfer your paid tickets to a new device one time in 6 months. Not very good if you have to replace your phone more than once at that time. Terrible application.

Y70%
by Y####:

**edit2*** this app is getting worse, refusing to load tickets, unfortunately m tickets has crashed is becoming more the norm. Pretty much 50 50 if it works. Also, minimum purchase is nonsensical. How about you get a faster server!! Update.. now seems to occasionally eat a ticket. When you activate the ticket it has a date of 1 Jan 2000 and immediately expires. Absolute shambles.

Y70%
by Y####:

Stopped working suddenly. I uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail. I've looked up fixes for other apps and clearing data and cache seems to work temporarily, but that is not an acceptable way to have to use an app. No-one seems to respond to these comments so I emailed the developer. I encourage you to do the same.
