About Run / Walk Intervals Timer

*** This app does not work correctly with Android 4.4 (KitKat). *** Google changed the way timers work in KitKat, breaking the app. Please do NOT download this app if you are running Android 4.4 (KitKat) until I update it with a fix!

The Run/Walk Intervals Timer (Timer) is a quick and easy way to enjoy your run/walk interval training while listening to music, enjoying the scenery, enjoying the company of others, and/or recording your run via GPS ... but NOT worrying about keeping track of your intervals. The Timer keeps track of those intervals for you! (The scenery, company of others and GPS NOT included ☺ )

After opening the application, set your desired times and intervals and press Start. The Timer keeps track of the time for each interval, how many intervals you have completed, and the overall time you have spent in the activity.

When an alarm directs you to transition, the Timer will:

sound ON:

- Mute any music
- Vibrate the phone (if selected)
- Tell you to run, walk or cool down (as appropriate)
- Return the music back to its original level

sound OFF:

- Vibrate the phone (if selected)
- Display a note instructing you to run, walk or cool down (as appropriate)
- During a phone conversation, the Timer will react to an alarm as if the sound is OFF. The conversation is not interrupted in any way.

You can also use other applications without error while the Timer is running - all audible alarms will be played (sound ON) or notes will be displayed (sound OFF). For example, I use the Timer, Pandora, and My Tracks for testing.

After starting the Timer you can Stop it. Once it is stopped, you are free to either Reset the application back to the default choices or Resume the training values previously setup. Resuming will begin everything exactly where you stopped it at with no loss of information or time.

General application settings are available at Menu | Settings. It contains options for Text-To-Speech, Interval Announcements and the Vibrator.

Select specific run settings on the Timer's main page by clicking on the appropriate edit or toggle button.

Toggle buttons:

- Toggle a warm up interval on or off
- Toggle to run first or walk first (both the Running and Walking toggle buttons function like this)
- Toggle to choose a specific number of interval sets or continue indefinitely
- Toggle a cool down interval on or off

Edit buttons:

- Select the interval for the associated item
- The 'Stop after' edit button allows you to select how many run / walk intervals you want prior to run completion or the cool down interval firing.

If the sound does NOT work: The Timer uses Android's 'Notifications' audio stream so you must set the sound level for notifications on your phone:

- While at the phone's home screen, click on the Menu button, then Settings.
- In the Settings screen, click on the Sound category.
- Click on the 'Volumes' or 'Set audio volume' entry. The entry may be different on your phone, you are looking for the 'Notifications' audio stream control.
- Set the Notifications audio stream to its maximum. (Personally, I just max out all the audio volumes.)
- There may also be a checkbox labeled "Use incoming call volume for notifications". If checked, RWI will use the incoming call volume instead of the notification volume. If you check it or leave it checked, set the incoming call volume to its maximum.
- Your device may differ slightly from these instructions, but they should be close.
- Click the back button until you get back to your Home screen.
- Start the Timer and the sound should work properly.

Thank you for using Run / Walk Intervals Timer and I hope it helps you to meet your fitness goals.

App looks simple enough to use. Easy set up. I set it to 30 second run and 2 minute walk (since I'm just starting). After the initial warm up, the app told me to run, run, run every 5 minutes for the first 15 minutes, but never to walk during that time. Then told me to walk, walk, walk every 5 minutes for the next 15 minutes, but never to run. Waste of my time to download app and try to use it. If I could have given zero stars, I would have.

Noticed immediately when the first notification didn't alert me. Thought I might have set it up wrong but after wasting some time and consulting other reviews, I decided, no, it's not me, it's the app. - Yet more proof that you get what you pay for; and in the case if this app, you pay for and get nothing.

I've been using this app for years and it has been great when I do my run/walk races every month. For some reason when the app was transferred to my new phone, the Voice command doesn't work when I set it on one minute intervals. It works every now and then. Just not consistent. It still works great on my old phone. I've uninstalled and installed several times. I need this app in my life. I need assistance on this problem. I need that run, run, run or walk, walk, walk.

I love the idea of this app but from the very first time i used it, it skipped intervals which makes it practically useless. I checked for an update hoping that would fix the problem but there is none. :(

A tutorial would have been great to add, but otherwise seems ok. Can't figure out how to change the number of preferred sets. I guess we'll never know

C70%
by C####:

This is what exactly what I was looking for! Something that lets me set up my own time instead of following at pre set time! Lord knows I have a hard time running for 60sec each interval! Here I can set it at a great time that's challenging and not to over the top! Wish the graphics were a little better and it would have some type of rank you establish the more you workout to keep MD motivated other than that it's great!

I used to love this app until something recent happened. It no longer give you voice notifications or stops the Run or walk timers

A70%
by A####:

It is the only run walk app in google play. It does exactly what it says. I have to hold my phone to feel the buzz. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add a beep.

X70%
by X####:

I loved this app and them it started missing intervals. It will say walk or run and then nothing for double the time then say the same thing again.

X70%
by X####:

Voice interval is inconsistent, but still usable and make me enjoy more my jog/running routine, it makes me go more longer time.

X70%
by X####:

... Voice announcements stopped working after the new Google TTS was installed. Please fix it! Update: Seems like it is Google TTS's fault - I can't even play the sample on the settings page. Uninstalled the TTS update, and now voice announcement is back.

X70%
by X####:

This was exactly the app I've been looking for, but like others have said it fails after the first couple intervals. I tested it while sitting on the couch and sure enough...guess I'll keep searching for the perfect run/walk interval app

X70%
by X####:

I was super excited when I found this. It's exactly what I have been looking for. But sadly, I couldn't get it to do anything after the first run interval. Good thing I decided to test it before I used it during a run. I will gladly raise my rating after this is fixed.

B70%
by B####:

Used for 4 mile and missed a lot of the prompts. Great idea but needs reliable consistent notifications. Often kept me running when should have been walking and visa versa. Please fix as I want to keep using.

X70%
by X####:

First few rounds it worked great but now it changes the settings on its own. Sometimes it will be 30 seconds and other times 2 minutes, not consistent st all.

X70%

I just finished the Tower of Terror 10 mile race using this app. It worked flawlessly! Unfortunately, it only works on my old phone. Hopefully, they can get it to work with lolipop.

M70%
by M####:

The elapsed time is accurate but the interval prompts ( both voice and vibrate) are not. Sometimes it skips one or the other, sometimes a one minute interval is given less than 30 secs. I tried re setting everything but still the same result.

W70%
by W####:

The vibrating alarm was good enough that it kept me in the know

I70%
by I####:

It stops timing correctly after two or three laps. The sound stops and the intervals switch. It was great before but after a few months it started failing and keeps getting worse.

M70%
by M####:

I was so excited when I saw this app. Unfortunately, it doesn't work. 1) You can't turn the sound off. I tried unchecking "use TTS"; nothing changed. I tried unchecking all options - nothing. I finally erased the text boxes. It still muted my music, but I could work with that. 2) The intervals don't work. It vibrated on my 1st transition, and my 2nd transition, then went five intervals without doing anything. This exact pattern repeated until I stopped it. Useles, and a good way to ruin someone's workout.

O70%
by O####:

Very frustrating one minute run would be 30 sec or 8 sec, was unable to get a rhythm. Uninstalling would have been great if not for that.

M70%
by M####:

As others have said, sometimes the intervals are shorter or longer than what I program it for.

M70%
by M####:

Only first interval works, nothing after that.

K70%
by K####:

the app is so inefficient and inconvenient that's it's practically not usable at all. it skips whole intervals and sometimes the running interval is longer than what I originally set it to. I absolutely hate the app

A70%
by A####:

Audio and vibration alarm is off DO NOT GET THIS APP PLEASE it doesn't do what it's supposed to do

M70%

Doesn't work correctly on any version of android

M70%

Used once and the intervals worked fine but each time it announced the intervals it stopped my music app :(

C70%
by C####:

When I first saw this app I thought, "Wow, I can't believe I found this. This app will be perfect for what I need! But, unfortunately to my dismay I've discovered that this app is horrible!! It's frustrating because it's so very inconsistent!!! It was fine for the first interval, then it started going longer than the set time for walking and during some intervals it even skipped the running! Please fix this issue because I would really like to use this app for my training program, then I would give 5 stars.

T70%
by T####:

It was fine for the first few intervals then it went an extra minute for walking and at one point did a 20 second run interval (I had it set to 1 walk 1 run). I had to stop and find another app to use in the middle of my run!

R70%
by R####:

Music pauses during each interval. Older ver never paused. Otherwise I like I can listen to my music. Easy to use. Will give 5 stars when music no longer pauses.

R70%
by R####:

I really like this app for many reasons. Adjusting the timer for each interval is very easy. It vibrates the phone when a timer goes off. It keeps track of and tells me which interval i have completed and how many i have left to go. It also tells me to run, run, run when it is time to run and walk, walk, walk when it is time to walk. However there are some small glitches. The timer for the intervals can be off by 10 seconds. I found it annoying but it is not such an issue for me anymore, hence the 4 stars.

R70%
by R####:

Just what I was looking for! Wish I could incorporate it with my Nike running app.

R70%
by R####:

The intervals are not times accurately. One minute sometimes was 45 seconds and others was a minute and and half. I think the programming needs to be looked at. Otherwise, the concept is great. Please work ok the timing accuracy!

This is the best app out there but had to drop it as it quit working on my KitKat 4..4.3 :(

Y70%

I am trying the walk/run method as an alternative for my marathon training. I was getting a lot of run run run and not a lot of walk walk walk. That needs to be fixed. If it is not going to properly announce the interval than what is the point. We are in some high miles and running 5 7 9 minutes in a row get tiring.

Y70%
by Y####:

Is great if you set it up to run walk run walk it only tells you when to walk. You had one job app

T70%
by T####:

It doesn't work. I had been sprinting for several minutes waiting for it to tell me to stop. Uninstalling.

Y70%
by Y####:

It worked for a while and now the run walk intervals are too long or short. Another words, not accurate at all. Seriously, can't an app keep time correctly if that's its only job? Uninstalling

J70%
by J####:

I set up my walk/run intervals. It didn't stay with what time I set it for. Anyone know of an app like this that actually works? Uninstalled.
