AndChat (Free) for Android
Just one suggestion I have. when clicking on their name doing /whois nick, I think it would be best to have /whois nick nick. That way we also get their idle time. Its the best free one, everything is great except for the ability to choose channels
App itself is great for simply chatting but missing some basic features. For example, the Commands.txt is missing information about the ban command and seems to force you to handjam bans that are more complex than nick bans. I wouldn't recommend this app for mobile channel operators or admins.
It's great and I love it. I use it daily. My only beef is how easy it is to accidentally add someone to your ignore list when trying to send them a private message. If you can find a way to address this, as well as random software errors that cause you to disconnect or the app to crash, this would be a five star app.
I really love the app...there's only a few things that bother me.... when disconnected tell app is still running unless I force stop it... I'd love to add scripts to it....and I can't my logs...but two of those might just be my phone? The app also suddenly disconnects...but not as much as it used to :)
This is a great irc app but there is a bug with the /msg command. It should not open a chat window. Only the /query command and ctcp chats should do this. Not all servers implement the /ns alias and I shouldn't have a new window for nickserv. Plus the intention of /msg is to be a seamless quick message that displays in the active window and the status window
As per title. First, I think most users prefer a monospace font. That's however totally based on my professional but biased point of view. Next, you made the hide send button option do exactly the opposite, but that's a small fix :) Last, on Android 2.3, the notification text is unreadable because it is black on black. Overall, great app. Wish I could give it 4.5 stars because this is not yet excellent but certainly not just above average.
It does the job and keeps me connected, when on my phone. Some improvements could be made, like not losing the place I was reading whenever I switch screens, consistent name colours, and better logging options. Overall, I would still consider this app to be good enough to serve my IRC needs. It's a shame that there is no longer active support for this app.
Works great with my bnc. Only complaint is that the little arrows on the sides of the screen are hard to get to and press when your phone is in a case with raised edges. Using galaxy S4 and the screen goes really close to the edge. Bigger icons or larger touch area would help.
Why everytime i try to connect, the server always said my device wa infected by irc trojan virus, even after i installed and scanned my device with anti virus. Pls help me. It was the best irc so far. Easy to use but it also not allowed me to connect
Performs as advertised. Possesses a suite of technical options and customization for the power users while providing silky smooth ease-of-use for IRC pedestrians like myself! I refuse to use another Android client -- this one's too darn good.
It's a fantastic IRC app. Can be confusing if you're new to IRC because most functions are done through "/commands". The other downside is that the app isn't being updated anymore so eventually it's probably going to stop working. So far it seems to be running great, even on newer versions of Android that it wasn't designed to be run on.
Plenty of features that let you have good control over everything you want, and tailor chat windows to fit your needs, making it a more productive and smooth experience. However, switching channels is a pain, as there isn't any visual feedback to indicate you did so.
This app has all the features I was looking for. There is just one problem. It crashes whenever I click the app's back button to add another server. It might just be my device so I haven't rated less; it's functionality and features exceed this crash. Other than that it works perfectly and this will be my go-to and default IRC app. Uninstalling all the others!
UI takes unnecessarily much space. Wildcards in highlight terms don't work. URLs are recognised badly so some newer domains don't work as links (and copying text is very slow with a big buffer so you'll just read URLs and type them into browser manually). But it's a fine basic client.
Does everything I want in a clean, simple interface - I wish it could access other IM platforms. It also provides grouped transcripts of chatrooms. And i see they've now sorted battery issues
The best irc app I've tried for android so far. Got tired of other apps due to their lack of autojoin or proper ability to read the irc log without being constantly auto scrolled back to the recent message! But this one has it all! Great work dev!
I had to reinstall from long ago but if this goes well definitely donating. Fantastic arc client and would be incredible if did IM and SMS. Great job!
Best Android IRC client I've used, but after upgrading to 6.0+, the notification doesn't behave in the same way. It now shows an icon that can't be removed from the upper left corner, whereas previously it was a persistent notification only visible when swiping open the notification center. It would also be nice to have notifications that only showed when a mention occurred instead of always showing connection status.
Because it eats battery for lunch. Which is perplexing. Everything else I love about it. For a protocol that can work only with a telnet program, I wouldn't think it'd drain a battery so badly.
it does what it's supposed to do. The interface is clunky and it needs work all around that it obviously won't get being orphaned. But it goes from point a to point b.
Not a fan of how the side drawers work. On portrait-oriented phones it becomes nearly useless. See what it looks like when you open both drawers. Targeting the thin edge is difficult. I hope the author takes some tips from the Google design guidelines in the next release. A right swipe anywhere on the screen should show the left drawer, then swiping left should hide it. Left again should open the right drawer, etc. Back btn should hide either open drawer, and pressed again should exit to main screen.
Great app. I don't need a lot out of mobile IRC apps, so it works well for what I've seen. I only was bothered by a few extremely minor things that I won't mention.
Problem with setting the list of auto-joined channels only connecting. Had a hard time customising. Doesn't seem to support encrypted chat.
Everything's almost perfect except it keeps disconnecting rather frequently and its ticking me off. And i havent had this problem with other clients
There is no UI. It's like DOS but in the 21st century. It gives you a prompt to enter a commands but no clues. Waste of my time.
AndChat is a solid, highly functional IRC app that does the trick for mobile chatting. I'd appreciate the userlist getting a side-swipe panel of its own rather than the cramped one that slides into the main window, and also a light theme.
I really love the app...there's only a few things that bother me.... when disconnected tell app is still running unless I force stop it... Title says it all. Does what it's supposed to elegantly but it's design is straight out of the Gingerbread days. I'm guessing there's no hope for an update, but if there were one it could be the best app by far.
It does the little things right, such as the correct use of the Android's back key, and the alert when someone mentions you by name. I haven't experienced a couple of the main crash bugs for the last few updates either, so I'm very happy with this.
My only complaints are the cramped vertical mode UI design and the fact that you have to input commands rather than tap on icons to do things like add channels and such.
I use this IRC client on both of my phones and on my tablet. It is easy to use, easy to set up, and very fast. That said, I do have a few problems with AndChat. 1. Random crashes after opening servers and pushing the app to background (i.e. by going to home screen) - I am in a lot of channels and I use my IRC client to connect to BNCs. As a result, many channels open at once and show a lot of text at the same time, causing me to have to wait a while to use the client (this is normal). Naturally, I would like to use something else while I am waiting, but this causes the app to crash. I assume it has to do with so many channels opening or how much text is shown at once while the app isn't in focus (normally this wouldn't happen, but it happens often when using a BNC). 2. Lack of colors/formatting - This is a minor one, but there are Android IRC clients that do support viewing and even sending colors, bolds, and other control codes. 3. No automatic connection - This is another minor issue. AndroIRC (like XChat and other computer IRC clients) has the ability to make servers connect each time the app is opened. An addition like this would save tons of time.
I'd actually like to give 4.5 stars, just a few things would bring it to 5. Such as make the interface more customizable (i.e. more fonts, custom colors for nicks & text, ability to add a background image), add sound notification for channel messages & joins, add a buddy list, have the nicklist show userids & hostmasks rather than just nicks. Those are more superficial than performance issues though, the only real performance problem I've run into is the app going offline on its own: I'll have it running in the background while doing other things on the tablet or set the tablet down for awhile, then check to see if I got any messages only to find all the servers went offline for no apparent reason (not due to intermittent wifi issues). Which then clears any previous text that was up prior to the dropped connection, so if I want to go back and re-read or catch up with new messages that came in, I have to dig for the log files to find them. It doesn't kick my servers offline often but when it does it's pretty annoying. Other than that though it's an overall decent & functional app, simple & user friendly enough that I'd recommend to beginners.
Awesome. Have been using it for few months now. Nothing to complain about, just make another theme so the background appears in white since it's hurting my eyes, thanks for the great app.
I'm usually connected to two or three servers at once and in many channels at once; and this client is definitely the best at what it is meant to do. I've been waiting for an new update for ages however.....
My favorite IRC app for android. The only features I really miss from my desktop IRC clients is that I can't disable joins/parts for a specific channel and that app-issued bans are nick bans, with no way to change that to a hostmask ban app-side without doing it manually or by using ChanServ fantasy commands.
This app is pretty good, but it needs... Something. Ever had something you know you'd fix but you can't explain it? Maybe the use of the space of the app or something. But the big thing at the moment is that when you get a notification, Android Wear crashes . other than that, a very solid IRC app. Material design UI refresh would make it perfect
Main thing for me is that you cannot set more than 1 connection server per server. Desperately needs a better way to auto complete nicks. Other than that and the crashing issues, this is prob the best IRC app for Android.

Does what any IRC client needs to. It just won't auto-join chans with +k with the correct key used. Still deserves its five stars.

Easy to use, easy to set up. I use it all the time on my phone and it doesn't drain battery fast. I just wonder if others have issues with the user list not updating when someone parts a channel? It's weird and a little annoying. Is there a fix on this issue?
