About aLapRecorder HD

Mount your phone to your vehicle's screen or dashboard, and aLapRecorder will simultaneously record video footage, GPS position information, accelerometer data, vehicle speed, engine rpm*, throttle position* and more. You can then review your recordings with the GPS location, accelerometer G forces, speed, rpm, and Google Maps overlayed in graphical form, and synchronised with the video playback.

You can export your recordings to a PC, and create blue screen video overlays. Combine these with the HD source, and you can create professional level video that you can share with friends, or upload to the world wide web.

aLapRecorder can also be used to calculate lap times and display lap comparisons in various exportable chart formats. Data can also be exported for use with GPX or CSV compliant applications. aLapRecorder will also calculate various 0-60 mph split times if the lap starts from a standstill.

Tried this out on my Samsung Wonder as the demo and it worked OK, so bought the upgrade and it will not work now, always crashes when I tap Record Have had no response from emailing developer regarding getting money back or how to get it to work. However it does work with alaprecorder (non HD Version). A very useful tool for trackdays.

I've had the demo version on my phone for a few months now and have become relatively familiar with the function. It definitely has the best skin of all the others that I have seen with a good selection of readings and world tracks. One problem that I have found is that when recording the screen does some weird rolling thing? Could be a quick fix in the settings, but I haven't found it yet. Aside from that, I have seen no updates or responses from the developer which makes me very weary of buying the pro.

On the previous releases, the product worked pretty well. Since recent updates the Accel sensor jumps sporadically with minimal to no movement. Other sensor based programs show the sensors to be in working condition though. Samsung Captivate If that can come back to working order, GREAT program.

It worked well before Android 4.0 (in 2011) but now crashes after recording, losing the data. The Developer seems to have quit or given up support. Too bad. It was the best of its kind.

Developer has abandoned application and is not fixing bugs or replying in forum. Stay away and save your money!

Sound very on playback, but the video playback very good. Saving the video i can but all the dails disspaears and becomes an normal cam video so y even dowload this app if u want to save it .....? This means everyone that u want to sent the video has to have this app..? Dont wais youre money on this .. lots off stuff still to change sorry. My opinion..

I need help I can't load the videos to my computer. Why can't we have the option to just save the video as we see it in the playback mode in a avi or mp4 video??? I am very disappointed in this with the lack of support and how UNuserfriendly it is!

Does not work on newer versions of android, beware!

Wont store to Galaxy S4 SD card. Cant seem to find any help. Would have been a great app, however on board storage is too limited to use

I am running this on an S4. Cannot get it to store runs on the SD card. Won't completely erase all data. The help forum appears to be permanently down. I suggest not spending money on this one.

Good idea to wrap up the video and data in one package to avoid having to synchronize different sources. App is quirky, though: data not being logged as expected, for example. Trial limit of two videos isn't enough to properly evaluate, especially when trying to work through inconsistent results.

This doesn't just work, always frozes up, could some updates be done?

T70%

HTC Evo. Great app. Easy to use. Syncs up with my $25 OBDII connector. Love it on track days. But why, why ... why! is there no export video with data!?! I don't like spending another 3 hours copying files onto the PC an recreating the look with racerender. Replay on the phone with the gauges and map overlay is superb. Why can we not just export that? That is all I want. Otherwise this would be a five star.

This could use a real clock display somewhere on screen. Or as one of the customizable info dials. What this really lacks though, is the ability to record in the background. That way you can turn off your screen to charge your phone faster, and avoid phone calls etc. from killing your recording.

I installed it on my brand new Galaxy S2 and bought an external GPS receiver. Here are the problems I encountered: 1. It recognizes the external GPS for a few seconds and then link is lost. 2. Internal GPS signal is only available on a perfect cloudless day - light clouds and the link is lost. 3. After recording for a few minutes the app crashes. 4. Was never able to view the short recordings anywhere (neither on phone, or on pc) This was a total waste of time and money.

I love this app but im having issues with playback. It wont play video from the internal storage on my droid razr. I tried using the option for 2nd sc card location to the alaprecorder folder but that didnt work either.

I would bye the full version , if it actually worked. All it says is "video recorder not supported" . It's a HTC DesireHD.

The forums are down and the website hasnt been updated since October 2011. It's a shame because other users loved it in its heyday, but without future updates it probably isnt worth the investment in hardware to pair with the app.

Awesome app. But without the external SD storage its useless. I hope the developer will address this issue. I hit the use secondary card option and then point it to the /sdcard1 and nothing. It worked in the 4.1 release of JB. Think it may something to do with the emulator folder. Developer email address doesn't work either.

Used to be great, but doesn't work at all with my latest os update. Not hopeful of a fix either as seems to have been abandoned by developer.

Do you know of a dashboard phone mount with a clamp (rather than sucker) for an android phone (HTC desire Z). Presumably most of your customers would have to comply with scrutineer rules on tracks to use your app and not have sucker mounts ? The developer email address does not seem to be working.

W70%
by W####:

Update: The Developer should probably mention that the blue screen overlay isn't available on the free version. Looking over the other options now. I deducted 1 star because I wasted 3 hours trying to get this to work. In future releases be more clear on free vs play options are. If your looking for a data logger that can record video, export, work with OBDII,.. Like this is perfect! I highly recommend this app! So many options! I actually tried TrackMaster first,.. that app was a pile of junk and didn't work. I got my refund for that app and found this one, so much better!

I'm running android 4.4 and everything works great but every other recording fails. The app will say it stopped when I hit the stop recording button. I work around this by starting and stopping a recording between races. Overall pretty nice. Please look into this issue. When the app crashes I find the videos end up in my camera but no telemetry. My guess is the camera app is overriding aLapRecorder.

X70%

App is beautiful, and simple to use. Too bad it crashes when you stop recording, scrapping the whole recording session.

X70%

Nice but we should be able to move it to SD... would love to see this on the next update as many phones have very little space available and this app takes a nice slice of if when installed.

Current version won't focus on several phones. Seems to be a common issue but the developer hasn't logged into his own forums in more than a month.

Used with Samsung ACE, W and had no problem with external GPS. But with Sony Sola and android 4.0 alaprecorder always asking for pairing and can't connect qstarz 818 ((

This is a very cool recorder. If the developer would update it, I would purchase it. It is still fun, even if you can only record two videos...

Can't find delete button for unwanted video. Can't use 1080p video format and the export is troublesome But overall is good keep up the good work expecting free update. Galaxy Note

I'd love to give this app 5 stars because this is exactly the kind of app that I'm looking for. Read vehicle data via OBD-IO Record video w/ GPS info Export data as a "common" format, such as for RaceRender2. The first recording I did was by far "the best", however at random times throughout the video the video itself would scroll slightly. Kind of like the vertical hold on an old TV were off. At first I thought it was the replay part of the app, but nope. The video file itself is this way. The second video was fine, no actual video problems. The second recording I did I made the mistake of not selecting the right track (I don't recall selecting a track, especially the one that was selected) so when watching the video the on-screen track is wrong but all the telemetry matches up to the video. So, oh well, I export the data...but it WILL NOT export from the beginning of the recording. I can only get it to export from what it THINKS is the start/finish line no matter if I select the correct track after loading the recording or not. Also, when exporting the data, it is multiplying the G forces by 10. I had to multiply X and Y data by 0.1 to get the correct data.

This app is pretty cool. And I like that you can try it for free and record real sessions. For me, I had a few problems. - My first session it stopped recording when my phone rang. Not the apps fault I guess - My second session, the app crashed about halfway through. No video written out. After that, I just used the normal phone video - Writing out the "overlay" images, the app crashed about 1/2way in - No easy/free way to watch with overlay. If my phone had AV out, maybe I'd dig it more. I want to.

The audio in the video recording is a bit noisy but aside from that works great with my odb device update: If I record 1080p, then the audio is perfect but then the screen flips and the recording is no good. So, I'm forced to use 720p for whatever reason since my galaxy s3 support 1080p no problem but when recording in any resolution other the 1080p the sound gets messed up. If this developer was still around I'm sure it could be fixed, everything else is great. I even went so far as to buy a go pro to mount to the rear of the car and use the audio from that because I love this and it's ability to export the odb data to racerender2. if you have a Samsung galaxy s3 and can record in 1080p within the app please let me know how you got it to work. later.

Tested this app on the recommendation of a petrolhead friend (Mike, you know who you are!) but I have to say although it initially wow'ed me, it progressively fell flat on its face. The interface is visually stunning, although too complicated at times, it wasn't clear on the Replay settings tab that I could scroll the buttons up to find more. Where this app is sorely let down however is no native ability to export the recorded footage + gauges out as a video or to Youtube. I realise that overlaying gauges on top of a hardware accelerated window (ie. the camera) is easy and that exporting a video with the gauges overlaid would require re-transcoding of the video, but still, it's not a game changer until it can offer that functionality. Developer: Although I imagine it to be difficult if not impossible, and that output video would be limited to the resolution of the screen, but have you tried approaching this from a different method, such as maybe capturing that video overlay, appending your gauges, and then saving to MJPEG or something like that?
