New City Catechism for Android
New City Catechism is based on and adapted from Calvin's Geneva Catechism, the Westminster Shorter and Larger Catechisms, and especially the Heidelberg Catechism. It is divided into 3 parts to make it easier to learn in sections and to include some helpful divisions:
PART 1 = God, creation and fall, law (20 questions);
PART 2 = Christ, redemption, grace (15 questions);
PART 3 = Spirit, restoration, growing in grace (17 questions).
New City Catechism is a joint project between Redeemer Presbyterian Church and The Gospel Coalition.
Features:
- displays the catechism question according to the current week for the year in a mobile friendly way
- choose between ESV or NIV bible verse
- the adult version contains a longer answer to the weekly question, bible verse, commentary and prayer on the topic from a historical preacher (e.g. Augustine, Edwards, Spurgeon, Wesley, etc.), suggested reading and a short video teaching from a modern preacher (e.g. Don Carson, Mark Dever, Timothy Keller, John Piper, etc.)
- the child version displays a shorter answer, the bible verse, a cut down prayer and a relevant children's song
- can move back and forward through the questions
- lists all the questions on one page
- swipe from the left of screen to open up the menu; or press the button on the top left
- can move app to SD Card
- basic pinch to zoom
- default settings for which version to display on load
- can set when you want to start from Question 1

Very useful tools. Simple and easy to use.
Widget is much improved
This is a great app, thank you.
All Christ-followers are encouraged to use this app regularly. Seriously. :)
Have just started using this with our family, and it's great! Only problem is that despite setting the starting date correctly, on opening the app it just goes to the first question, not what we're up to. How can this be fixed?
Most informative out there.
Berry good
The app is easy to navigate and is intuitive. The lessons are informative, clear and concise. The lessons serve as useful guideposts in my pilgrimage.
I know the widget is new, but please fix it!
Been waiting for this to come over to Android. It's great.
What a great tool to help parents begin to disciple their kids! Students and/or adults could use it for their own study or training with their friends or other groups as well. Check it out!
Really slick app. One minor complaint is the zoom in/out buttons seem unnecessary.
Simple, user friendly but super app
Such a helpful memorization and meditation tool.
Just started using this. The questions are great, gospel focused and culturaly relevant. It comes with question related: commentary, prayer, and short video so each question is explained. Has adult and children section to each question. Being techno illiterate it took me a while to figure out that I needed to change the settings so the spp would open on quest #1.
Love this app! So helpful to center on the gospel each week.
Great for Q&A with your family or friends
New City Catechism
to God be the glory
Highly suggest this New City Catechism! The childrens version has downloadable songs that my kids are hooked on now! It's adapted from the Westminster and Heidelberg catechisms. 52 question, one per week of the year.
Jesus
This app has gotten much better in recent updates and is finally in a state that I find it usable & worth recommending to others. Looking forward to using this app to walk my family through the catechism.
Works well. Found one bug - App doesn't calculate the day correctly to display the appropriate question. Not sure if this is a bug for the new year (2014) or local to my phone model (Samsung Galaxy 3). Other than that very good app.
Jesus is for life not just for Christmas
Great app, would it be possible to have a widget that we could add to the home screen?
I have been using the website, so glad to see this app! Just shared and recommended to my friends on Facebook.
I've had this app for a while and I have seen the stead improvements. It is to the point now that I don't even think about the iPhone version. I especially like the ease of moving from adult to child version. Thanks to the developer for his work on this and please keep the updates coming.
We use this site in our church. It challenges us as a congregation.
The kid friendly answers are great for my children, and there is so much to learn that it can be read over and over.
Great app
Awesome
Awesome!
Highly recommended
This has been a God send. Just at the right time. Still a few updates before it's perfect. But the ability to set your own start date and the addition of J I Packer's Concise Theology is fantastic. Thanks to the developer for his input into my Christian walk.
Wonderful app. Thank you so much for creating a Android version!

Very thoughtful and spiritually helpful Q&A. Excellent mix of historical theology and personal needs in the faith. With regards to the App, it does what it should. It has a lovely appearance and its free.
