Creación del Patronato
En los años 60's, los productores sintieron la necesidad de intensificar las actividades de investigación, respaldándolas mediante mayores inversiones, a efecto de fortalecer las actividades agrícolas e incrementar la producción en el Estado de Sonora, lo que requirió establecer una red de campos experimentales en las principales regiones agroecológicas de la entidad.

En 1964, los productores agrícolas del Valle del Yaqui, deciden organizarse con el fin de integrar un mecanismo de apoyo permanente y sistemático a la investigación agrícola, y así se constituye el Patronato para la Investigación y Experimentación Agrícola del Estado de Sonora, A. C. - PIEAES, cuyo objetivo principal ha sido el de apoyar al CIRNO y al Centro Internacional de Mejoramiento de Maíz y Trigo (CIMMYT), para fortalecer los trabajos de investigación agrícola en la entidad. Establishment of Board
