SPACE - Break phone addiction for Android
Great help to self control. Think twice and put it down.
App doesnt run in the background if tou close from your recent apps list.
I was excited for the update. The old app was great but it was really dated aesthetically. The new app looks better but that's about it. It randomly stops counting, the widget is bad, no app exclusion, and it's still displaying yesterdays results at 8am. Seems rushed. Should have taken their time and made it right since you only get to release something once. I'll check back in a few months.
Very disappointed with Space. The previous version, Breakfree, really helped me curb my addiction in a gentle healthy way. Breakfree gave me control of what I needed to monitor plus (exclude app feature). This new app is unattractive, deleted all my old data without warning, and counts screen time and unlocks in a bogus was. Five star downgrade to barely one star.
Old app was good, new hap has dreadful colour scheme and stopped tracking after a few days. It saves incorrect data and is now useless.
Just ununstalled it because the widget with the stop notification is gone. I used it a lot! The newer version is beautiful but older version was more useful.
I found Break Free very useful on my last device, so it was profoundly disappointing to discover that it's been replaced by an app with limited functionality and a host of glitches. For example, the widget no longer updates my usage statistics in real time, which means that the app interruptions are almost always unexpected. Often, the widget will jump from ten minutes to thirty minutes without displaying any of the minutes in between. Honestly, this is a real let down—I can't understand why you'd overhaul an effective app with more than 800,000 downloads and replace it with something that, frankly, doesn't work. It's ironic that the Pro version allows you to share the experience with friends, because I can't imagine many long-term users feel particularly motivated to do so.
Seemed ok when it was called Break Free, but the new version is just bad. It congratulates me at 6am for meeting my daily goals when I obviously have just been sleeping, making the accomplishments meaningless. Also, seriously needs app exclusions, with some that should be excluded by default. Don't yell at me that I should be making real world connections when I'm in the middle of a phone call! Also, popping up over Maps to tell me to stop using my phone is just plain unsafe because then I have to mess with my phone *while I'm driving* so that I can see my navigation.
I wish it was more aggressive on enforcing limits, like locking you out of your phone for a few seconds when you reach the limit. It was way too lenient and I never really reconsidered not using my phone.
Like the app but the time zone setting seems to be set wrong. Each day starts midday
No exceptions for apps, my 2 hour commute with GPS means I hit my limit before I even use my phone. Uninstalling this
The app wasn't counting the time even though the app was running. The phone is Huawei P8 lite.
I loved the old version. I feel like a had a friend trying to help me. I enjoyed the emotions that came with it. I was sad it was upgraded without any warning but most of all not saved my past data. I liked onboarding with space. I haven't used it long enough to rate it. I'm not a fan of the color scheme and I'm sad I lost my buddah friend :-( I wanted to make him happy. Not sure if I'll have the same connections with space.
The old app - Breakfree was fantastic, and i had rated it 5 stars. Using it i had decreased my average daily phone use by 60% over the course of 6 weeks. The new app - Space, is such a huge downgrade. I am baffled as to why they would 'update' such a great app to this
It's okay. I liked the score in the older version and the unlock confirmation dialog, this version only confirms the unlock after a few unlocks. User interface looks nice but it is missing the motivational quotes. Subscription is expensive. It's less like somebody actively telling you to get off your phone and more like an all that counts the minutes you've been on. Bring the character back!
I uninstalled the app after the surprise conversion from Breakfree to Space. The new app has significantly reduced functionality - why in the world would they take away features?? The biggest problem for me was the removal of the "exclude apps" feature. I'm not going to open the app and hit pause every time I need to look at a map, or listen to a podcast. That particular change made the app useless for me.
Used it for few days and my impressions are: 1. Didn't saved my previous data of breakfree and though UI is better but it lacks more functions and motivational quotes. 2. Keeps on closing and even after usage of more than 2 hours the app is stuck at 0 minute usage and 0 unlocks. 3. The app appears in front every time while closing other apps and the urge to close all except this is quite frustrating. So better keep it running in background without getting visible every other time.
The update has rendered this app useless. It doesn't track and isn't performing it's function. The widget has reduced functionality too and is an odd colour that can't be modified. I am very unhappy with the update to Space from Breakfree
When it works right, it's wonderful. I've cut my wasteful use down from over 4 hours/day to under 1.5 in just days. That said, it still has a lot of problems. The widget must be removed and replaced each day, the app often crashes when paused, and achievements don't stick. I look forward to the updates.
Space is a HUGE downgrade from break free . Doesn't allow "exlude apps" so any time I pull up gps or music I have to manually pause and unpause. Also very faulty, keeps closing and isn't counting correctly. Hopefully they smooth out the bugs within a month or so or else I'll have to search elsewhere . Sad to see breakfree go.
Had just purchased the pro version of Breakfree when I got downgraded to Space. Not happy with it so de-installing. Excluding apps, day by day usage etc. I liked breakfree more. I wonder why I should need the social bit of Space and I find the cost of the pro version of space ridiculous.
The sudden update was jarring to say the least. I think it might have been better to release a separate app for Space, so that those who liked Breakfree could keep it (at least until the end of its software lifecycle)
Breakfree was far better than this Space thing, i miss it too much. Space doesn't look so friendly as my old monk friend, it has a lot of bugs and isn't so easy to use. Breakfree was just the best app for addiction controlling... :(
I'm pretty miffed about this app. I had been using Breakfree for months as a gentle reminder about phone usage, and then this installed over it. I wouldn't mind, but I had paid for pro version of Breakfree and also used the Exceptions utility for my Google Maps use. Now it appears the exceptions feature has been removed and the app wants my money again. Very disappointed, I will no longer be a user.
I can't really use this without the ability to exclude apps. It is nagging me when I am simply using maps and pocketcasts while driving. It does look nice and is simpler than break free. Honestly, the sudden switcheroo felt tricky as in "where did this app come from and where did break free go?" Sorry, without exclusion ability I feel like I have been conscripted into being a beta tester for your app. Uninstalling for now at least.
The first step for solving problems is to realize you have a problem. This app showed me how much of my life I was wasting. Thank you development team :) UPDATE FOR THE 'SPACE' VERSION I like the new layout, but for some reason when I sleep I wake up to find that SPACE thinks I've been using my phone, so I get told I've used 500 minutes! When I look at app usage it doesn't give me the culprit. I'm not sure what to do
I hate this app. It was okay at the begging but after a while it was super annoying how it kept sending me pop up notifications every 10 minutes. I know this is an app to get off my phone but it just made me want to use it more since all space did was remind you 10 minutes to make "real connections". I miss my Buddha friend. Breakfree was awesome because it actually straightforward told me how many hrs I was using my phone and it was also telling me my addiction level. It felt much more friendly user than Space
Breakfree was so much better than Space. All the good things of breakfree are gone and now space is just an app having sleeker and colourful UI,but 20 pc of the original utility. Uninstalling it now and searching for a breakfree like app.
The new app looks great. Excellent design! I like having the pause feature because I use the same apps both for things I'm supposed to do and for wasting time. I pause for short intervals when I'm playing music or video calling. One thing I don't like is that on the home screen, the major part of the screen is just blank and the time and unlock numbers are all the way at the bottom. I'd like it better if these were closer to the center and grab my attention when I look at the screen. Another thing is that it would be useful to have a small graphic like a pi chart that fills up as you get closer to your limit. This would be really helpful! Also, when I get the notification that I've been using my phone for too long, I don't know what the difference is between saying "Ok" and "Remind me again later". I've used both and they just do the same thing.
That is the first real good app which blocks all notifications :) (It would be even better if one could add some exceptions)! works absolutely perfect for me though somehow on my ZTE Axon 7 the usage tracker does not work at all nor does the function which allows you to see how many times you unlocked your phone. I initially downloaded the app just to block notifications but Id love to use other features as well :)
EDITED FROM BELOW REVIEW: I do not like this new version at all. The other one was much easier to navigate, it had the option to exclude apps and had cuter reminders and prompt. I will be looking for a new tracking app now. MY REVIEW FOR PRIOR VERSION: I knew I was spending more time n my new phone that I should. I had no idea how much. This really helps keep track and you can customize it. Cute little reminders when you're getting close. Also encouragement when you're staying within your target range.
Break Free used to be so great but Space does not work! At some point of the day it just stopped counting the unlocks and the time!
Seems you guys are have a rough time after the upgrade to Space. I kind of like it, has better UI than Break Free, but Space is full of bugs, e.g. when I woke up this the morning, I suddenly had 8 hours of usage of the phone, which is imposible given that I was sleeping.
I am angry . I paid for pro of break free at the start of the week. Now you change it to space and want a subscription to access the tools I already had paid for. That sucks
Downloaded last week and has been incredible to feel like I'm starting to get my phone use under control - particularly love the ability to block notifications at certain times of the day and the reminders when I've been on it too long. Thank you!
I really want to thank you for saving my LIFE. Im addicted to phone used an avg of 8hrs. Aftr installing this app my usage is 3 to 4 hrs.
Super glitchy, after every time I open the app I get a notification that it has stopped working.
activity doesn't register most of the time thus creating unreliable results
Suddenly wake up to horrible full screen notifications. Time to uninstall.

I think this app is an improvement on the previous one. I love how you can set your own targets which was the one major thing lacking on the previous app. If you could add app exclusions for specific apps then I'd give it a solid 5 stars.
