Radio Wifi Thermostat CT-30 for Android
In contrast to the manufacturer's cloud management, this app has instance access and response. No more shivering/sweating, waiting and wondering - you can make and see the change instantly. Keep an android phone or tablet by your bed as an alarm clock and handy thermostat!
The cloud based app provided by the manufacturer is fine, but this app provides a few advantages. First, it's instant, no waiting for the cloud service to notice and change your system. Second, it has a widget so you can see what's going on at a glance. Finally, it's local - there's no security risk to your network (externally connected devices can serve as bridges to break into your home network).
This app uses the internal URL (IP) and the manufacturer's API of the thermostat. It is for use within your home only. Don't expose your thermostat URL outside of your home network! The thermostat does not provide security to protect it's URL or data, and this app cannot add security on it's own. If you need to change the temperature settings while away from home, use their cloud service.
This really is a free app, not ad supported! If you would like to support the development of this application and others like it, consider purchasing the companion CT-30 schedule editor or the CT-30 server.
Note - this app only supports functions provided by the CT-30 API. Functions such as holiday mode, filter, etc, are not provided.
For secure remote access, you can use SSH passthru, or use my CT-30 server. You can find setup instructions for using an SSH server on my website.
The CT-30 server can be used on any spare android tablet, and there's a stand alone java jar version that will run on any spare computer supporting java. Whichever you use must be dedicated (on and connected within your network) to provide remote access. Accessing the secure server from this client requires a subscription with a free 7 day trial period - cancel within that time to avoid charges if the server doesn't work for you.
NOTE: The CT-30 has a built in web server that tends to be a little unstable and occasionally drops requests from the app. When this happens (or when your phone is not able to connect to the thermostat) the widget and the app will show ?'s instead of the temperature. It will attempt to reconnect every few minutes (less often if not on wifi).
The CT-30 server can eliminate this problem as it buffers requests to the thermsotat.
Works with dyn dns when used with ct-30 server and works with ct-80 but could use a couple more features though.
i can,t do anything
This is a decent app if not a little rough on the UI experience. Much more responsive than the one released by Radio Wifi which keeps me from having to develop my own app. Just wish it could resolve Dynamic DNS addresses for those of us whose IP address is not static for long periods of time. Add that capability and I would be 5 stars. Good work, keep it up.
I have it working perfectly through ddns. Very fast response.
I installed this app along with the "official" Radio Thermostat version, and I much prefer the simplicity of this version, as well as a better widget. In addition to all the other positive comments, I think it's important to note that this app also works with the newer/better versions of these "Radio Thermostats". I purchased the "Current Innovations" CI-800E version, which is also re-branded and marketed by Filtrete, LockState, and Homewerks under a similar model number, such as CT-80. This version has some additional features and reportedly better overall software/connection capability. I recommend the app developer here update his description to identify all the other models and manufacturers this app works with, because they all use the very same protocols and interface.
Works very well.. I like it...
I keep this app handy to monitor and control our thermostat from anywhere in the house. Quick response, temperature resolution of 0.5 deg F, and responsive developer make this series (Control, Scheduler, and Server) the premium apps for the 3M CT30 / CT50 Wi-Fi thermostats!
Great application & widget. Dev very responsive.
I really benefit from the Thermostat. Awesome having a widget. Would be nice to have one that stays on like a night time alarm clock. Only displays temp 40 percent of the time. Question marks the rest of the time when on my home network. maybe not entirely the app, the thermostat is touchy.
Works well. Does what it should.
A good simple app that does what it says and works. Actively developed and updated.
I like the simplicity of this app, it works well to locally control the stat. This needs a setting to make the clock 12 Hour AM/PM... The cloud app from the radiothermostat people does seem to control the stat directly now. It will sometimes say last time it communicated, but most of the time in my home on my wi-fi it says directly communicating with thermostat. The cloud app also gives a great schedule setup menu that this one doesn't unless you pay for the other one. I will use both and see which I like better!!
...without this app! My internet connection went down, and the cloud-based interface became totally worthless. This app works on your local Wi-Fi regardless of internet connectivity. Ocassionally talks to the t'stat faster than it can respond, so I get java warnings. Be patient and try again in a few seconds, and it will probably work. I gladly supported author by purchasing (equally awesome) schedule editor. Thanks for a wonderful app! [Toshiba Thrive AT105-16 tablet]
Finally somebody has put the api to good use and made a nice direct-connection app for these thermostats. Very nice and helpful developer, too!
I set the IP address of my computer, connected to the wifi network, and it wouldnt work.
Nice, works
