About Mr. Vigilant Lab Demo
LAB DEMO! (Why are we shouting?)
Get a look at the next Monkey Robotics release. (That's better)
Are you the bold, adventurous type who thinks production releases are for widdle cwy babies? Then get a sneak peek at Mr. Vigilant, the Personal Security Monitor for Android devices!
* Who Is This Mr. Vigilant, and What Does He Do?
Ever wonder what your phone has been up to while your back was turned?
* Did friends or enemies fiddle with it, when you stepped away for a moment?
* A bouncer took it at the club last night: Did he get in and Emoji Tweet all over your Selfies? Is that a thing?
* What was your phone up to in police custody overnight on New Years, while you were their "guest"?
* Mr. Vigilant Has Your Back! [Triumphant fanfare here]
"Mr. V" (you can call him that, now) keeps a record of things that happen to your phone. You can review later, if you suspect foul play!
The demo is limited, but will already log these events for you:
* Someone logged-in from the front screen
* Was plugged-into (or unplugged from) USB
* Was used to place a new call, or to answer one
* Were installed or removed
* Was shut-down and/or rebooted
* SD cards were installed or removed
* Lynyrd Skynyrd was playing nearby (Update: Feature canceled)
* Much more
Other demo features include:
* Spartan control interface
* Configurable event monitoring and logging
* Over 30 supported events
* Quick Tips
Mr Vigilant demo will only log while it is actively running. To maintain logging, start it normally but then use either your "Home" or "Apps" buttons to switch to another activity. The release version will support optional "background operation."
These are the most useful events to log: Screen On, User Present, UID Removed, Call Placed, Call Received, and Reboot.
* Did We Say Frequent Updates?
If you want to stay on the bleeding edge of "The V-Dog" (as his closest friends know him), just let it update from the Play Store. Expect frequent dramatic updates to the demo!
* App Permissions
"Viggie" (his New York nickname) requires the following permissions, which are used *only* when the user has configured it to respond to the related events: "Boot Completed", "Access Phone Info" and "Call Info". Again, these are "wired-in" permissions, but aren't used unless you actively log those events. This will be changing to a more advanced on-demand system soon.
