About NARF Tablet Radio

NARF Tablet Radio is a simple and robust application for Honeycomb tablets and ICS phones that can play arbitrary web radio streams (e.g. 1LIVE, SWR3, WDR2, etc.). NARF Tablet Radio is small, simple to use and flexibly configurable. It supports automatic reconnects to cope with brief wifi connection losses, looks better than most phone applications. It is free and ad-free. It supports pls and m3u playlists to provide 2-click access to thousands of radio stations online. You can also use it to play linked mp3 files such as podcasts managed by Google reader. What else could you ask for? I don't know. So feel free to tell me ;-).

50 built-in radio stations (but you can access many more from a website):

Germany: 1LIVE, Antenne Bayern, Bayern 3, BigFM, Das Ding, Fritz, HR1, HR2, HR3, HR4, Rock Antenne, SWR1, SWR2, SWR3, SWR4, WDR2, WDR3, WDR4, WDR5

Switzerland: DRS1, DRS2, DRS3, Energy Dance, Energy German, Energy Zürich, Radio 24 Live, Radio 24 Rock, Radio Swiss Classic, Radio Swiss Jazz, Radio Swiss Pop

Austria: 98.3 Superfly, FM4, Hitradio OE3, Kronehit, Radio Österreich 1, ORF Radio Wien, Radio Melody

Great Britain: Capital FM Manchester, Chill, Heart London, JACK fm Bristol, The Hits Radio, XFM London

Use of permissions:
READ_PHONE_STATE: Used to disable radio during incoming calls.
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE: Used to disable radio if wifi goes down.
WAKE_LOCK: Used to keep CPU and WLAN active, as long as the radio plays.
INTERNET: Used to download m3u and pls files from the Internet. Used to download meta data from the stream.
EXTENSION_PERMISSION: Required for integration with Sony SmartWatch.

You can't even download any tunes and it doesn't let you save the settings also you have to go online to listen to the music so there is no point in downloading this app

It's not bloated, no ads. Has nice little touches like stop play when WiFi disconnects and Home screen widget. This is the app to use if you want to listen to internet radio with the least battery drain (with earphones).

The only app I found so far which simply plays bookmarked stream addresses with the ability to specify stream addresses manually. It's great if you hate bloatware and ads. Would have got 5 stars and had been my favourite internet radio app if it supported more audio codecs. (eg. doesn't yet support aacp used by 4BC Brisbane)
