Archwilio - Welsh Archaeology for Android
Can't see any sites?
No option to browse without populating map view with archaeological sites or without satellite imagery. Consequently one can't browse to a location remotely without having the view obliterated by site icons and running extremely sluggishly as a result. Would be good to be able to download an area to be used offline for poor signal areas of which there are many in the countryside.
Samusung Galaxy S6. Installed but even on my home Wifi the map never completely loads and no data is visible. Then it crashed. Restarted it and same problem with slow loading. You just get bits of map and lots of grey squares. Left it sitting there for 10 minutes but still never fully loaded. I'm only using the app because the main Archwilio website no longer works. Not hugely impressed I'm sorry to say. Chris Update July 2017. Still the same issues, map takes ages to draw and if it does complete you get no data. Otherwise you just end up with blank squares on the page. This is all on a good wifi connection. It has all worked and was very good but now is extremely flaky. I'll try it again in a few days but if it's no better will uninstall it. Good idea but not implemented very well. Chris
Well done to the developers! Would love to have the option of selecting a particular period show up on the map rather than all periods (as on the main site) but can't complain. Will try and fill in some missing photos around my area! Thanks again!
I love the features of the app and ease of use. Only let down is seems to be quite a few people have listed the same things.

Defnyddiol iawn
This is great. Lots of information and the sources too which is brilliant. My 'but' is that after closing the app the satellite icon is still on. I've had to restart my phone to close the app down properly.
Can't find fault, good insight into the heritage of Wales. Lots of nee archaeological features I didn't know about.
Great app but drains like there's no tomorrow! Downloaded and ran app worth it 100% battery then closed it. 1hr later battery warning. App was still running! Tried again and proved it doesn't close but keeps running in background ! Needs to be sorted. 2 stars until non close issue is sorted.
Really like the app. But keep getting an annoying beeping sound even with phone in silent. Making prolonged use of app impossible in its current state.
And a wonderful idea for an app. Maps take too long to load and render. Some tiles remain white and never load. And unless you have knowledge of sites around Wales its difficult to spot sites no obvious markers on the map. Also makes silly noises with no option to switch them off. Though its great that it relies on user interaction to build the archive of sites and photos etc the app feels very much like its still in beta mode. Certainly far from the finished article. Let's hope for regular updates
Frequently misreports no Internet. 'Long hold for details' doesn't always work. Often missing descriptions and photos. I really wanted this app to be outstanding and fascinating, but there's much work needed to bring it to maturity.
Yes/no options don't make any sense. Beeping sound very annoying. Otherwise very good.
The app works well on my note it shows lots of ancient sites around my area. This is a historians dream and novices world of wonder. Its the only app of its kind so get out there and use it by uploading photos or monuments near yourself so others can enjoy them. Well done everyone who worked on this app, I love it.
This looks like it has potential, but the annoying beeps are unneccesarry.

Worked to start with on my nexus 7 2013 but didn't seem to recognise a long press and was slow. Now just constantly forces close. Sad. Please sort it out!
Surprised how user friendly and detailed.
excellent if you love history then you will love this app
Tried it twice and the app doesn't show any historical sites near were I live....when there are hundreds. Poor.
Found it very user friendly and contains plenty of information for the sites I've looked at so far
A fine start. Some entries seem imported wholesale from unverified anecdotal sources but no doubt this will resolve with editorial input.
Really enjoying this app.
Only using the app from my desk (in England) I can't wait to try it out on a hike next time I'm in Wales. The crowd sourcing potential is most exciting. I agrre with others, though, give an option to turn sounds off please!
Good work guys
Really like this app when out and about but it does crash a little too often which is annoying. Also the system for uploading pictures and information about sites doesn't seem to work - info disappears after completing process. Please fix
So many sites listed on here, it's amazing how much is on here. Not all of the points of interest have much information but that will get better over time. Also this is a Google app so its a cracking tool from which to start learning about history. I have stood by a remote mound and found out more about it using this app. Highly recommended to fuel interest.
This is a fantastic app and would get five stars if it worked consistently. Unfortunately it keeps crashing and often won't load. Still well worth downloading, but I hope the technical issues can be rectified.
Love this app which gives me so much info, which in some cases is for sites I didn't know existed. Glad that the gps is now disabled when it's shut down so I'm voting it a 5
Amazing
Archwilio lists every known archeological feature in Wales on an easy to use map. Very good. It also promises, Tripadvisor style, to let you comment and upload photos of the sites - except, no matter how often you click on "done" and "save", this does not work. Bad. Now for the Ugly: your GPS switches to always on, even if you manually switch it off. Even after you uninstall the app. It always switches itself back on. So long, battery life. It's almost like a virus.
Had some trouble with it leaving GPS on when not in use. Looks like explicitly exiting app avoids this. Would be nice if GPS was off when not actually using app. Beeps annoyingly on every action though comments suggest this should be fixed. Confused by data usage message. Surely it should be able to upload later when wifi available. Has crashed a few times while attempting uploads. Way too many key presses required to submit an item with pictures.
Get rid of the silly noises which still ring out with device on silent. They add nothing to very interesting app. Also, why ask to close when as others have mentioned the app just 'hides'. A few things that will stop most from giving a 5 star rating.
Useful and interesting, but spoilt by a dreadful and amateurish user interface. Cut out the silly beeps and make it look less like a first year student project and you've got a 5 star app
The interface is great, a fresh change to all the other apps out there. I can see it's got a long way to go yet but if others get off their bums and have a go at supporting this app rather than complaining (can you do a better app? , if so feel free) I look forward to seeing this app progress and it's a great idea.
Useful access to database of ancient monuments, sites, places of interest. Many places have multiple entries, which is irritating. Although the latest version of the app claims not to make all those stupid beeping noises, mine still does. No option to silence it, either.
Needs a lot more information and pictures on items and why can't I find the app for my samsung galaxy pad 2 wikipedia is a 1000 times better with a lot more information.
Why is there a map of the world for a Welsh App. It would not do anything. No sites were highlighted. No instructions obout using App. Not vert impressed.
