External playback speed control was the Achilles heel of this app, but it's been added now, and so far found it to be flawless. Beyond pod gained two stars on my scoreboard. Now my next gripe: could you integrate an equalizer too? Also smart play sometimes doesn't keep track of which episodes i have listened to. Especially twit productions. But this is the podcast player i recommend everybody. I used a pirated version of dogg, but since I could buy Beyondpod in 2 dollar sale, i completely switched.

Beyondpod was a perfect little app to manage and listen to my podcast subscriptions. The user interface was easy and comprehensible. I was very happy to purchase the premium key, because i liked the app. After the recent update the app I liked and purchased was gone. All that was left was a completely different app with bad UI design that is too much centered around the features probably no one ever uses. Too bad!

Did you want specific times to update for only one podcast? Did you want one button to play your favorite list automatically? Ever wish your video podcasts could be played with the screen off? What about only the audio so you can send that email? Did you want to continue on your phone where you left off on your tablet while you leave home? BeyondPod is all this and more. There are so many features and Custom Settings you're bound to find something missing in your old player. Try this app out already!

This runs well on my Nexus 7. The search is comprehensive and sensitive to find feeds. Episodes are clearly labelled, easy to find even a large podcast library. Its very easy to to select whether you want podcasts downloaded or played from source, this can be automatic or by selection. Play lists are easy to constuct from a range of your podcast. Very stable, doesn't drop out when switching between bluetooth headphones, very smooth buffering even at the the limit of my wireless connection. You a get a free trial period and then you get prompted to pay.

This app is really never in the way of what you want to do, listen to podcasts. It is easy to use and it just dawned on me that I have used it for over a year and I have never been frustrated or annoyed with this app. I have actually never wished for anything more than this in a podcast listening and downloading app. Easy control of the playlist. Good overview of the episodes that are downloaded. Very nice control and automation for how many episodes of each podcast to keep and when to delete old ones.

Back in 2011 when I first bought this app I listened to a lot of music podcasts. Online streaming happened a music podcasts went away or became less (p)relevant and I forgot about the app. Skip ahead quite a few years and a number of topics I'm interested in are having a surge in podcasts (and some admittedly never went away). BeyondPod is still here and working great (from Donut to Nougat). My favourite feature has to be that it skips back a couple seconds automatically after pausing. That's such a simple thing but a great feature to ease you back into the conversation. And that's just one of the features. Worth the price, great dev.

I've tried hard to like the new UI, and to be honest I've gotten used to most of it. However since the recent overhaul, the episode downloader is unreliable to the point of making the entire app useless. I have it configured to pre-download episodes while I'm on wi-fi for listening to while I'm driving to work, but more often than not I find that only the first few minutes of episodes have actually downloaded. There's no visual indication of this -- the interface shows the completed download icon, but it'll only play for a few minutes before skipping to the next item in the playlist Pretty unhappy, given that I bought the unlocker while the app was worth the money, and now I'm stuck looking for a new app to listen to podcasts with. Please, revert to the old version -- at least until these serious usability bugs are fixed!

This app is the best podcast tool out there for your android phone. Been using it for over a year. I'm not entirely happy with the recent UI change but I'm confident I will get use to it! GREAT APP

Easy to configure and works like a dream. I download all my favourite BBC podcasts automatically overnight. I've put each feed into a category reflecting the order I want to play them (Play 1st, Play 2nd etc) so that SmartPlay constructs the playlist as I want it ready for my drivetime listening with no intervention from me.

Beyond pod is a very capable podcast player, and it is a way better choice than doggcatcher, so don't be fooled by the hype. Doggcatcher is a very poor effort. I give it four stars simply because it is not as good as downcast was on the iphone. That is now my standard of excellence in podcast players. Despite all of that, and having tried 6 Android players, I highly recommend this player. It is really the best for Android.

The GUI design is so messy that you need days if not weeks to find out how to do some of the things. The phone and tablet versions are different and inconsistent. All in all, it is a very badly designed software and you still need to pay a lot just to use normal features like multiple downloads at a time. I seriously suggest free alternatives which are better designed and are superior to paid version of this. I suggest IPP podcast player. I regret buying this.

Q70%
by Q####:

I assumed that the variable speed control present in the free version as one of the paid features that times out of you don't unlock it would be present after paying but NO such luck. You still have to also buy Presto for variable speed. Another disappointment is how slow this app is to download the podcast feeds. Pocket Casts is much faster in syncing the feeds. Overall this app is pretty good but Pocket Casts is just much better in ever way (and also needs Presto for variable speed.)

What a way to ruin a good app with an update attempting a modern look. Plenty of apps have modern look & feel but none of the navigation and search issues of this app. I wouldn't download it now even for free. There should be a rule against failing to deliver even a basic usable app following an update. The only silver lining is that thankfully, I will never again have to see your icon in my apps folder.

I've only tried a few podcasting apps because once I started using this one I had no reason to try anymore. It has every feature I've ever needed, and provides it in a very fluid and easy interface. The one thing I would like to see different is when I add podcasts to my list I always click download and then add to playlist immediately after, and it likes to pop up and tell me Streaming is currently disabled" since the download hasn't finished in the one second between presses. But I wasn't trying to stream it in the first place. I suppose I'll have another look at the settings to see if I can change it, but it's not a very serious gripe for me.

I use for downloading & listening to ESPN podcasts daily on my commute, since the actual ESPN app does not allow for offline listening (that I know of). I love that it resumes/stops where I left off when I enter/leave the car and Android Wear integration is a huge plus. Not sure I needed the Pro version, but felt the need to pay and support a great app, thank you!!

i schedule auto downloads each morning so they're ready for the day. Decent UI. Nice integration with music player of your choice (i use astro nova for it's ability to play variable speeds). Would love to see a "bookmark" for text feeds.

Like I said it"s pretty good is it not? ( innit). Probably best app of it"s kind, trouble free so far. Five stars if it had a more intuitive interface, one click to set up "auto- delete episode after listening" as I often find unwanted episodes still on the memory months after use. This is possibly due me overlooking some existing features , if so , apologies all around. Update Feb 2017; it's still relevant, hasn't been stealthily updated to death and is sill my first choice

Ultimately it doesn't matter how ugly a product is if it does the job the way you need it to happen. That's how I feel about the BeyondPod. I love the scheduling and have it automatically turn on WiFi for downloading. I need this because the wifi at work doesn't let my phone connect to google services for whatever reason so I keep my Wifi off while at work. That being said, the interface is desperately in need of an update. The look still reeks of Gingerbread. But like I said at the beginning of this review, it's the only one that gets the job done the way I need it too.

Q70%
by Q####:

This app is the BEST APP for managing your feeds. Period. The ability to sync with Google Reader was the clincher. It's really managed to save me a whole lot of hassle, since my school computer blocked most of my websites. It's maybe the cleanest interface out of all the RSS apps, has its own internal browser, and supports video. No questions asked, you can't get much better than this.

Easy to find and organize podcasts. They download on their own every morning. The triggering of each episode in the playlist is a little twitchy -- I sometimes accidentally close one while trying to find the info on it. Works well with my LG bluetooth headphones. This is my first "real" podcast, and I'm happy with it.

Update: Any app that did not let previous owners enjoy family share is an automatic 1 star deduction. I am removing a second star because the UI has become more and more complex over the years. One thing I missed from my ipod touch was podcasts now I wish my ipod touch handled podcasts like this app.

Had the trial version and thought the unlock was worth it. This unlock unfortunately changed the settings I had in place, and I'm getting hit now with data charges because I didn't know the app started downloading episodes via mobile data instead of Wi-Fi. The app is worth their asking price but not with an extra $20 tacked on later. Hope this prevents someone else's aggravation.

Been using this app for 2 years now and I love it. It takes a while to grasp all the controls because it is so feature rich but definitely worth the effort. Some of the complaints in the feedback are down to configuration settings and are easily resolved. I have had it on Galaxy S2 and now on a Tab 3 and it works perfectly. Cheap as chips for what it does. Thanks beyond pod team.

Just about anything you could want in a podcast manager. But, in my opinion Beyond Pod has two faults. First there are so many features that it takes to long to figure out the best settings for you. Secondly, there is no simple way to back up the settings and list of subscribed casts. Unfortunately, I seem to require a factory reset on my phone occasionally and reinstalling this app has become a pain.

I used to use this daily for a few years, but the interface changes make it a swipey mess. Otherwise it has some of the most robust features of any podcast app. Specifying download order, number of episodes to keep, highly customizable playlists. But the UI caused me to stop using it.

A70%
by A####:

Feed search is great, feed management is easy, with multiple sort orders. Can sort episodes or just drag them into what ever order you like. Starts playing next episode automatically, which is great for working out and commuting. Liked the demo so much I bought the pro version.

by E####:

I love this app. I've used it for years already. But now, all of a sudden, I'm getting a very disturbing issue, when resuming from a longer-than-a-few-minutes pause. No matter how far along the podcast I am, it will always start off at around 6 minutes in, and I end up having to find my place again. This is extremely annoying when using a hands free set; having to dig out the phone first etc. instead of just one button press.

Q70%
by Q####:

The BeyondPod app — while not stellar — was fine a year ago. Since then, changes to the interface have made the experience of navigating features and managing subscriptions, downloads, playlists, etc. counterintuitive and inefficient. Furthermore, recent updates have made the app unusable due to frequent (every 30 seconds?!) crashing. If you're using the free version, you may not be able to find better. If you're prepared to pay for a podcatcher, look elsewhere.

i bought this key a long time ago. i really liked the app i bought before the recent updates and changes. i now use different free podcast apps rather than the one i paid for. i don't get to use the app i purchased the key for, and i am displeased with the new version. so before you pay money for something you like now, know it can change and you now have an entirely different product than what you initially signed up for.

This is my most used application. It is so extremely well designed rich with features and well executed. It works almost flawlessly almost all the time. What's more the development team continues to push the limits and improve upon its prior excellence almost weekly. If I could give this 10 stars I would!

I just upgraded to this from the "Lite" version. Now I cannot stay connected to my Chromecast for more than 20 seconds. The podcast is saved to the phone, so it's not a streaming issue. I have rebooted both my device and the chromecast several times. Please contact me or I will be requesting a refund.

I can't imagine an easier to use podcast manager. Does everything I need to keep up with my shows. Very easy to set global defaults and then make exceptions for specific casts. Worth the the past price for the level of polish and dedication from the devs, who are still very active after years of work. EDIT: Somewhat unstable and glitchy in 2015 on my Nexus 5 with 5.1.1. Has to be closed or sometimes phone needs to be rest.

I ve been using this app for years until the last update. So many downgrades in user interface and more.. Also the app randomly crashes while using other apps. Please fix! SUCH A SHAME TO PAY for an APP that has not been updated since 2013 !

If you listen to a lot of podcasts then you won't regret this. Its better than any other for Android that I've used. The price is definitely high, but its worth it. There's so many options that can be backed up and everything that its a must have if you're a developer or switch ROMS a lot.
