BeyondPod Podcast Manager for Android
Long time user of this app; the new beta version is unusable and you cannot leave the beta group with the links they have provided. The latest public version (non beta is over a year old) and not suitable for use on newer android versions. Wish I could get my money back for the pro key.
The quality of this app has fallen off very recently. There are bugs in the themes, playback speed, Chromecast and auto downloads. The developer has not been very active in squashing the bugs.
Backup and restore is a joke. Changing to a new device is completely not supported without a lot of effort since this programmer had been terrible for a few years now.
It used to be really good, but the last update broke most stuff on on 8.1 The forums are full of complaints with no answers from the developers.
For those in the Beta, DO NOT UPDATE TO 4.19. Broken on all versions of android and the developers have gone silent on any fix.
Can't add local files, so I can't play audio books. No update in over a year, so I don't think it's being developed anymore. I'm looking into alternative podcast managers.
Best podcast app in my opinion. Had to uninstall beta due to bugs but the production version works well.
Love it!
Was a great working app. Paid for the unlock key and enjoyed it for over a year then switched phones. All other apps needing unlock keys worked fine except this one. Wrote many emails and go no response. They don't care about the users. Podcast addict is free and easier to use with more options. Sad day for beyond lost a customer that always told other how great there all was.also cannot add paid podcast from private site..This was good 6 years ago
Still a great app, but having used the old layout this new one takes some getting used to. It took me way too long to find where I could edit my smartplay settings. The general settings menu is not in the most logical place. I do like the customizable playback speed, the design is fantastic, the car layout. Still a must have app in my eyes.
I'm really liking this app. The only gripe I have so far is there is no way to remove the persistent notification without entirely blocking all notifications. Would it be possible to have an option to have the notification visible only when the notification shade I pulled down and not on the status bar. Some other apps can do this. Thanks for the hard work, I'll likely end up on a Pro account with all these features.
V4 has got much better using all the time now. V4 is much harder to work out what s going on. I loved v3 paid for it. But if I had started with v4 don't think the app would I have lasted a week on my phone thankfully they let you roll back to v3.
Good, but sometimes acts a bit odd. Fix the navigation so a swipe and a press do the same thing, and let me add to Playlist with a single press, and it will get more. Almost gave 5 stars, before I realized it only feels easy to use out of Stockholm syndrome
Longtime paid version user. Still a great podcast app. I'm fine with the newer interface once used it for a while. Currently my only issue is the "Update on Schedule" for my feeds keeps getting turned off and I end up missing episodes that can't be downloaded later.
I really like the app, probably one of the best podcast apps out there for Android. The one complaint that I have is that the button to delete and mark as read is too close to the scroll so if you tap too far right then you end up scrolling halfway down the list. If it wasn't for that I'd give it 5 stars for sure. Please fix that in a future release.
Got my money's worth big time. However this app is always getting killed by lollipop. More so than other apps. Update: it's pretty rock solid these days. 2017 update: works with split screen which is great. Even when not in split screen resume position rarely works correctly. Lost a ???? for that
The latest version (4.x) is a disaster. There used to be a start screen listing all podcasts grouped by category. Now only newest episodes are listed. Overall, navigation is poor and difficult to use. No longer going to recommend this as I did in the past.
Attractive UI, but this app suffers from multiple bugs that have gone months without being addressed. The final straw for me was an increasing trend of unexplained 'episode failed to download' messages. Another one that I often came across was the 'Manage Feeds' button failing to work if a podcast drawer is open in 'What To Play'. Finally, the free version is limited to updating only one podcast at a time (a feature that is offered for free by Podcast Addict).
The auto playlists are really good. But media button bugs are horrendous, often stealing control from other playing apps even if beyond pod isn't running. And the double press settings have never worked. And now adding local folders doesn't work. App is getting buggier and buggier.
Owned this app for many years and may have to start shopping around for another one. It's been quite sometime since any updates have been made. There appears to be an incompatibility with Android O. My Pixel was just updated last night and I no longer receive track info over Bluetooth to my 2016 BMW 3 Series. Google play and a number of other apps are working just fine. Hopefully there are still updates planned for Beyondpod. I really want to continue using this app.
This app after years of reliability now sucks donkey testicles. For some reason this app thinks it's cute to stop playing the podcast I'm listening to when ever I get out of range of any known Wi-Fi network. Mind you this is for podcasts I've already downloaded, and happens even when I disable Wi-Fi on my phone. I'm fed up with this app arbitrarily closing while I'm listening to podcasts. Time to find a new app that doesn't fail at the ONE JOB a podcast app has, which is playing podcasts!
For some reason downloads are very slow on data. All of my other apps are fine, I can stream the video version of a podcast on YouTube before BeyondPod can finish download 110mb. T-Mobile 4g LTE on Nexus 6p Nougat
Very confusing and poorly laid out. Can be easily set to download podcasts and then immediately delete them. I often wake up with a device full of half downloaded podcasts. When they come up in the queue they cannot be played or streamed. Cannot exclude half downloaded episodes from the playlist. This is just rubbish. Actively looking for an alternative. Does not support 2x on Chromecast
This needs volume normalization or I will have no choice but to switch apps! I can no longer deal with having to modify Waze navigation volume while driving because one podcast volume is very different from another. It's just not safe.
Some podcasts no longer sink due to ssl handshake issue and The APP should integrate with the Android lock screen like castbox. It also is slow when unpausing a video after any pause due to call or application change and sometimes it even restarts the video!
I love the program, but when I backup and restore, I should get my feeds back. That is not the case. Why bother have a backup at all? Easy to do. At least the other programs do it well. I hate having to pick my feeds over and over again.
Has worked great for several years but as of a few days ago it will no longer let me download many of my favorite podcasts. Feeds update fine but the episodes just fail to download for no obvious reason. Will change rating when/if problem is fixed.
Not that great. I've had this app for awhile and while the functionality and design is pretty good. There's not an easy way to restore podcasts when switching phone devices and this last time my phone died out doesn't work with Android 7 and I'm not adding them manually again.... They need an easier way to restore feeds or at least I haven't figured it out and customer service hasn't responded.
Near impossible to bring your own podcast files on and listen to them. The BeyondPod folder is missing, I've reinstalled with no luck. No way to troubleshoot, wish I didn't spend money on pro. Free programs work just as well.
The new update is terrible. The app used to be very intuitive, but navigation has become more cumbersome. Plus, podcasts will regularly stall. Doesn't matter which feed. I've compared beyondpod to another app and only beyondpod had the issues. I used to love this app, but it's slowly becoming unusable.
Used to work fine with downloading and listening to podcasts but lately has a tendency to delete your downloaded episodes without your consent after you update your feed. I've emailed support 6 times about this. They've never responded. I haven't paid so I had to redownload over 200 episodes manually every time. I'm seriously considering just getting pocket casts and being done with it.
Not sure why I can't 'sign in' to have the same feeds available on my phone *or* tablet. And I cant tell if the unlock key has been implemented. Maybe it is too simple? A little frustrated.
The reason I don't love it is because I was just forced to update to the new app as I changed my phone. Now unfortunately the date is gone from the play list. It's very important to see the date so I can sort out the episodes according to time. Why did you guys get rid of it? It doesn't make any sense. The play list should cover the whole page.
About 3 years ago I bought BeyondPod because it used to be the best podcast app on the market. This USED to be my go to podcast app, but some changes that were made make it slightly more difficult to navigate. Returning to the main menu is just slightly more difficult than I would like. This also doesn't run as well on the Galaxy S7 Edge on Marshmallow than I'd like. I've switched to another paid app that I love.
The functionality gets five stars. It's customizable enough that you can tweak it to do exactly what you want. But it's excruciating to navigate. I don't think it could be less intuitive or less consistent if they tried. Fortunately, once you finally get it set up, it's pretty much just hit "Play". So one star for the UI, for an average of three.
Out of all the podcast apps that I have tried I always came back to this one. With the pro key it is simple and clean. It's just the best. Don't go with sticher or any other apps get this one and you won't regret it.
Finally was able to purchase Pro through the Black Friday sale. Worth the money. If only it had the ability to trim the silence in each podcast like PocketCast, it would be worth it. I noticed that some podcasts were not available through Play Music, which other podcast app does. Some like BBC News and PBS News Hours are a couple that cannot be searched using Play Music, but BeyondPod has it. Listened to this while at work, makes everything go by quickly. Thanks!
Whenever I get any notification while I'm listening to a podcast, it mutes in s way that can only be fixed by pausing and then unpausing. But it still played silently all you also have to rewind each time this happens. Since I am driving when I listen to podcasts this is very inconvenient and dangerous. Moto Z Force.

I hated the new look and then I got used to it and now I like it a lot. Play with it a little bit and give it a chance, you may get to like it too. Update: New beyond pod beta version 4.2.19 is awful and full of bugs... so many bugs... Huge problems as a result, I lost everything. Must backup regularly... Lesson learned
