About Realtime Lightning Detector

This app turns your smartphone or tablet into a real-time lightning detector. By mapping your smartphone or tablets GPS to our ZEUS lightning network across Europe we can tell you exactly where the closest lightning strike has been detected from you.

The settings allow you to decide how far you wish to detect strikes from your location, whether you want a vibration alert and also what distance you want a vibration alert. The app also allows you to decide on a range of "quiet times" when the app will not alert you to close strikes.

The default frequency to check the nearby strikes is every 2 minutes but this can also be changed.

The app will then scan around your location and "listen out" for nearby strikes. If any are detected it will display the distance from the strike (and colour code this depending on how close it is) as well as telling you the direction it was detected from your location.

This app is a must have not just for storm chasers but anyone who loves thunderstorms or takes part in sports or recreation where being outside near a thunderstorm is not a great idea (golfers? ;-))

I love Metcheck online, but the app doesn't work at all for lightning. I'm currently in the centre of a storm here in the UK, my other lightning monitor app is going haywire but Metcheck shows nothing at all. Shame, but uninstalled. Still love the site though :)

Good but the GPS is not accurate. My latitude is showing as 52 but at present am 51.09.

There is quite a few thunderstorms with lots of lightening strikes going off and the app is saying nothing. These strikes are about 40 miles from my current location

Is your app down at the moment? There are currently storms about 30 miles from me and nothing showing on your app. It worked ok yesterday

Hasn't worked properly for a while now. Metcheck website shows lightening strikes but not on app.

I've got the alert turned on to all the time. However it's not alerting me, it's saying there's lightning strikes within 7 miles but not issuing the alert vibration not even if I've got the app open looking at it... Disappointed

Whilst sitting through half a dozen violent electrical storms this app singularly failed to identify one single event!!

This app is so innacurate. During the recent bout of storms here I checked my location on maps to make sure it was accurate and a storm was right above (I saw the lightning about quarter of a mile away) and it said strike detected over 150 milea away. Another time there were clear skies as far as could see yet the app said a strike was detected 12 miles away. Waste of time.

Not bad and seems to be working fairly well (surrounded by storms as I type this and it's reporting strikes). Let down only by there apparently not being an advert-free version. Within reason I'd happily pay for that (especially given how dodgy the adverts are that I'm seeing at the moment).

Could do with improvements but ok so far. Ui is a bit basic would assume that because it knows my location and how far away lighting strikes are, that it could have a map showing where I am and roughly where lighting strikes are (kinda like rain alarm except with lighting). Which could also give some information about strikes like how many strikes and when they were detected. Also an option to run without GPS like using battery saving mode would be helpful for running in the background. So far so good tho..

Didnt entirely work. Thunderstorms with CG lightning here this morning but it showed the nearest one was 189 miles away. If it worked proper it would be amazing

I know the info I use to get on a pc was good so I downloaded this app. So disappointed with it, no map and very little options no refresh button, and worse of all appears to lie, curruntly have thunder about it says 26miles away, but we are hearing and seeing the strikes. On plus side its free but metcheck app could do with work like a toolbar icon, also aooears to run when on top, die it not

A update where u can use location without GPS would be nice. And a manual refresh button as well whilst your using the app

K70%

Good Start Guys, Next update would be good to include a google map of strike locations?
