Mental Floss for Android
The existing subscriber screen if tiny and floats in the center of the screen leaving most of the screen empty. It would not let me enter the entire account number. When I finished the registration form it would not let me log in. I hope these issues can be fixed. I'd love to use this app.
Did anyone test this before throwing it on Google Play?
I've been a subscriber for a year now, and the digital version is just as good as the hard copy. The scrolling is smooth and the app reliable. I haven't had any of the issues mentioned, running the most recent version of jelly bean on Nexus 7. I can't wait to see how the app might tie in the new mental_floss YouTube channel.
Smart mag. Dumb app. Never would open on my Xoom.
I love Mental Floss magazine, and was excited to learn about the app. However, the display size doesn't accomodate my 7" android. Very disappointing!
The app does not fill up the screen - enormous amount of black space around
Print subscriber and the app only let's me enter 10 digits of the 16 digit acct number. Haven't gone farther than that
Long time print subscriber excited to try app on new 7 inch tablet. Only displays about 1/4 of the screen with no obvious scale option. Unusable.
Love Mental Floss and am a subscriber. Been waiting for an Android app forever and they delivered. The ui is great on my nexus 7 and the ability to share a page from the magazine as an image file makes sending it to anyone possible independent of their viewing platform. 1010, A+++, would floss my mental again! To everyone having problems logging in: I had the same issue with the digits being cut off for subscriber number and when I tried the second method of authenticating via address it worked perfectly
I'm using a Nexus 10. 10 inch screen and the logon and magazine are smaller than my 4 inch phone! No possible way to get past the logon screen, I can't read it and my fingers couldn't touch any buttons if there are any! Did I mention I use a 10 inch tablet and am a subscriber? The ideal demographic......
Dont know why all the bad reviews. Works perfectly on my Samsung Galaxy s2 7" tablet. Ive been waiting for a digital edition of this magazine and this is great!
GREAT layout! SO much better than the Google play magazines that you can barely read! This is how design is done, take note other magazines!
Runs on tab 7.0+, but is not centered, most features off-screen. Hopefully will get fixed soon.
Looking forward to updates on this. Right now it doesn't seem to display correctly on a 7". Odd, since the app os supposed to be tablet-centric. Can't download the free magazine as well. Nothing to do with the network from my end.
Toshiba Thrive user. I'm a long time reader of this magazine, and I wondered why you couldn't get it on Kindle through Amazon. I was still puzzled when MF came out with an app instead of just going through Amazon, but even though I had read the negative reviews, I went ahead and installed it. I tried my best to register to read the magazine but couldn't do it. Now, I'm uninstalling the app because of frustration. Jeez, just make the magazine available through Kindle like the other magazines that I read.
I was hoping that this would work since the type in the print issue is too small for my old eyes. The app would not accept all of the account numbers of my account plus the sign in page is too small. Seems like they would have perfected this before they plastered the " now available for tablets" notices all over the current print issue. I see that this magazine is also offered on Goggle Play but I can't find a current print subscribers option on it, like they have with TIME.
It keeps crashing when I try to log in on the My Account tab. Very frustrating. Also have Nexus 7 where it works fine. Would like the bigger screen.
Really well put together
Its a shame they even made it available at this point. Theres only one issue in the library and everything else is empty. Stops working all the time. Wtf mental floss?
First mag to put on my new tablet. Works great! Every issue is an educational mini-vacation.

Since the field for entering my 16-digit account number only accepts 10 digits, this app is useless for an existing subscriber. One would think a brainy periodical would test such basic functionality.
Did anyone test this before throwing it on Google Play?
Loove mental floss and all their chic, quirky tidbits :-)
For a magazine priding itself on being smart, the application and log in procedures are real dumb
App will not download trial issue, it says an error occurred while downloading every time. I love mental floss and would digitally subscribe if it worked properly. Nexus 7 tablet
Keeps me interested & thats hard to do with magazines/books.
App is easy to use and straight forward. Current issue downloaded and was available to me in less than a minute.
I cant even get past the intro screen because I cant swipe to the side to find a continue or menu button. Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus. App seems to be hard formatted for 10 inch devices. Uninstalled.
Once I was able to figure out how to log in as a subscriber (and that was actually a slow, drawn out process), the app has worked fine. A good alternative to the paper version of the magazine.

I want to give this app a great review because when you actually get to reading the magazine, it is great. The layout is beautiful and easy to navigate. It looks good on my 7" screen (adjustable font sizes would be nice ) and is all together more pleasant to read than the print version. But, before you get to that you have go through the frustratingly bad and lazy app menu interface. Mostly I find it frustrating to have to wait days after I receive my print version before I can read the digital version.
I'm writing a review without ever have actually used this app beyond logging in. It's been HOURS while waiting for a single issue to download. First, the actual download is slow, painfully slow. Not only is it slow, but there's no background downloading. This means whenever the screen locks, or you try to use another app while waiting for the issue to download, it stops. It'll resume from where it stopped but the speed isn't increasing. It certainly isn't my connection speed since I downloaded more than 60MB worth of app data in far less time than this 60MB issue is taking. This means in order to actually use it, I have to first unlock Developer Options and then switch on Stay Awake to let the device sit fully awake on charge to let the download finish. This isn't acceptable practice. Sorry, mental_floss. I love the magazine but this app is horribly unfinished.
They inexplicably stopped adding issues in June so now the only way to read them digitally is to get an iPad or pay for a separate subscription through Google Play magazines. Don't bother with this.
The first four issues of my subscription loaded and look fine, but now I'm stuck with no new ones. The last two print issues have come and gone, but never showed up in my library.
Smart mag. Dumb app. Never would open on my Xoom.
When it was still supported, this app was a great way to read my magazine. I haven't been able to get any issue newer than June 2013, though, so it's much less impressive now.
The app does not fill up the screen - enormous amount of black space around
The app worked great

Not able to enter my print subscription info because it's not showing up. I type and nothing shows up. NEEDS WORK!
