ComiCat (Comic Reader/Viewer) for Android
I like this app. I wish it were faster in synching from the cloud and also it started crashing with the new update, but uninstalled it and reinstalled it and it worked again, but deleted my catalog. I would also like support for WD Mycloud drives to acces remotely. Thanks
As of the latest update, the app will no longer open on my Samsung tablet. Please update with a fix ASAP!
2nd bug: the GoldenCat link doesn't work. 1st bug: I set the option to adjust the brightness and now the screen just goes completely black when I open a comic OR when I try to turn off the brightness option in settings. Reinstalling got around the issue but lost all my other settings. Also the app needs to be able to synchronise reading positions between devices (if it can already do it the option is very well hidden)
For the most part, a very user friendly and usable app. Can sync from cloud storage which is very important for me being able to update on the go. Only issue is that the cloud sync seems to be all or nothing. You cannot just pick the folder that you just added comics to and quickly sync. So every time I add new comics, it syncs my entire folder which is enormous and takes a very long time.
Great little comic reader, plenty of options for displaying the comic, double page spreads and all manner of other things. I'm giving it 4 stars, because the UI could do with a little work and the background artwork isn't great. I'd really like something a bit more plain.
Worked great on my Tab S. But I recently upgraded to a Pixel C. Since there is no SD Card slop, I have to use an external SD card reader. I can't view the comics on the card with the Pixel C doing that. Not sure if it's a Google or app thing
I really had high hopes for this app. But unfortunately I was quickly brought back to reality. I messaged the dev and he/she replied within a day to get more information but them I never heard back. Hopefully leaving a review will get their attention. I use a Samsung Galaxy tab A 10.1 running Android 6.1
Has anyone found a way around the google drive error you get when trying to link them? I love this app and use it all the time and I use to be able to use google drive now it won't let me was just trying to see if there was a fix
An update was rolled out the same day I made my review about that the issues I had with the app. With email conversations to improve the app even further. This is one developer that deserves support for the app, it is rare to find one so actively involved with their app like this one.
Worked perfectly, loved it. Until I had to update my android version, now comicat can't find my comics anymore. So frustrating. I would love to use it but have to settle for the second best :(
As far as I can tell, the only way to navigate through a comic book is page-by-page. In longer books that's tedious. If I stop at p. 35 and want to go back to the beginning, I have to turn 35 pp. Why no easy return to p. 1?
I really like this app however my biggest gripe is the handling of double page spreads in portrait. The tiny image and black space is annoying, why do you can't it is fill the page and let me scroll around to read? Otherwise enjoyable user experience.
I've used a fair few comic readers, and this is by far the best of them. Really easy to use, and easy to change the settings to perfect your comic reading experience (though the default "out of the box" settings are fine). The only suggestion I'd offer is that double pages could benefit from having a separate rule to single pages (fit to visible, fit to width, etc). Thanks ComiCat :)
Really enjoying the app. However would love the ability to sync what's been read on cloud services among my many devices. I never know what issue I left off with on my tablet or phone, when I'm on the other device.
ComiCat stands out for its excellent cloud sync features, making it easy to get comics onto your mobile device. It smoothly pulls comics from Google Drive, Box, and a home server. The reader itself is fast and responsive, and the UI looks pretty enough. What keeps it from 5 stars? The tap, swipe and menu commands don't feel intuitive, and the viewer still lacks an "auto-trim" toggle for comics with oversized margins.
I've moved to Amazon cloud and you still don't support it. The only unlimited cloud so please try to make this happen. # old review#Great app and is by far the number one comic reading app on the market but there are a few niggles that frustrate me. 1) when sync with Google drive it stays on 20% for a long time and the whole scan took 58 minutes to complete (8536 comics on drive)and when it gets near the end it shakes the square scanning box. Does it scan every comic again or recognise the differences?.2) A widget like Google books or iTunes would be great. 3) first comic preview of the cover also would be a great touch.
Runs a little slow, but my tablet is older. Never crashes and is able to auto sort comics I add into the correct series.
Hands down the best comic reader I've tried on android and I have tried them all. It has a modern look and feel. This app really brings it to another level with the way it incorporates cloud services. A must have
I love the ability to sort the comics into folders and view the folders on the shelf. Great feature for large collections. Views PDF files too! Only missing feature: no way to "jump to page" to a specific page instead of having to turn every single page. For anthologies or other books with lots of pages, this is EXTREMELY tedious and time-wasting. (There is "fast-forward" but this is not really helpful when reading a magazine or anthology with multiple stories in it. Especially if a magazine story has a "continued on page XX" and you have to skip way ahead to read the end of the story.)
Simple, straightforward and easy to use. My perfect viewing platform thanks to the smart settings options. After using a few other Android comic readers, ComiCat is like a breath of fresh air.
BUT I have a small nitpick. I like reading comics in portrait and want my page to fill in in visible so that I would not have any black spaces or won't have to scroll up or down in single spreads. However, this does screw up double spreads. Is it possible to fill in visible in single spread and do nothing on double spreads?
Has so many options that it might be daunting at first but when you find out where everything is then it gets much better. I love the layout and organization of how titles are grouped as well.
EDIT: its still ugly. But i still love it ----------------------------I love it. Everything works like it is supposed to. But the visual representation of the library is hard on the eyes. I would prefer something more like Marvel Unlimited. Where only the titles of the books are shown. Then, when you click on a title, it shows the cover page and details.
This is probably the best comics reader you can get on the market. Everything about the UI settings is customizable, the data imprint is light on your device, it runs smoothly, and it's easy to import your comics. Haven't experienced any lag or even one glitch, and I've been reading for hours at a time. Definitely recommended.
Is there any reason why ComicCat doesn't have a higher rating than a 4.7? This app definitely deserves it!
This app is great at gathering your entire comic book collection together however the app itself is kind of ugly. So four stars for the functionality since its works pretty flawlessly however its an eye sore. Would love to see a material design update!
Almost perfect. It works great, 99% of the time. I can import most of my comics, yet some are always failing to import. NO idea why, even if redo the files and re-archive them as cbr or cbz, still fails. Yet when I try a competing comic reader, like Perfect Viewer, the failing files import with no issue and open perfectly fine. It's so annoying that I have to keep a second app for the comic files that fail to import. I would move over to Perfect Viewer, but it lags at loading each page - slight delay which is also annoying. Any ideas dev why this happens??
I have lots of comics on my device bought through coixoligy but when i do scan my device this app constantly finds nothing ? Seems like an expensive mistake for me, all it finds are PDf files. Unfortunately due to trying for ages to add my files the time you get to get a refund had expired, Holy crap Batman.UPDATED BIT. Contacted the developers as to why it would not work with my files and had a great explanation back as to what the problem was there was no quibble in refunding me my money even though it had gone past the refund period The reply was very quick and confirmed by Google Play it had been refunded so if this app suits your files go for it I give the developers alone 5 Stars well done for sorting my problem out fast and efficiently
This app is by far a better app to use if you have a large amount of comics stored on your SD card, in my case 113GB. After it initially scan, it loads up the comic with ease and no lag on loading comics or folders. The rescans are painless and doesn't take long when you add additional comics. Now for the few Cons, there is no FTP support, If you store your comics on a SD it will not allow you to rename file/folder or delete, no double page read option (for tablets) if you want to read 2 pages in landscape.
Google Drive cloud sync works great now that I have specified the comics folder. I tried nearly any reputable comic app on the market, and this is by far the best one, just for the fact that you don't have to have all your files local to your device and you can just download them as you want to run ad them. Awesome job, and fast response time from the developers!
Well done guys, a comic reader that does the job with style and ease. So simple, efficient and slick you nailed it! Any criticism? Only one regarding the library; can we have options for style of the 'storage boxes' and shelf texture options that are in keeping with the scale of the comics?
I was expecting a zoom function in portrait mode - like a magnifying glass when you hold down as Windows versions usually have. 5 stars if this gets fixed.
I set the option to adjust the brightness and now the screen just goes completely black when I open a comic OR when I try to turn off the brightness option in settings. Reinstalling got around the issue but lost all my other settings. Also the app needs to be able to synchronise reading positions between devices (if it can already do it the option is very well hidden)
I would give it 5 stars for its design and simple yet beautiful way it keeps track of everything, along with numerous ways to sort and view comics. However, the directory path feature is very messy. I have my comics saved to my sd card but have to go through different paths to get to it, despite the sd card being an option in the main box. Also feel like most folders can be hidden with an optional setting to view as I believe most people save folders in same directory.
A great app. I only have a minor gripe...enabling cropping of margins often cuts off content at the top of some pages. Otherwise, great job, though!
I haven't delved into all the technical features of the app, but simply using the surface options is a breeze. I just told it where to look for my comics and off I went reading through them. I'll check out the more technical features at a later date and adjust my rating if necessary, but as a simple reader, it's easily 5 stars.
Fantastic comic reader. Love how it syncs with Dropbox. Perfect!
Hands down the best comic reader I've tried on android and I have tried them all. It has a modern look and feel. This app really brings it to another level with the way it incorporates cloud services. A must have
I have used several cbrs and they all allowed me to read comics in a perfectly acceptable manner, however for just three bucks, I got everything else I wanted. The ease of menu accessibility, and getting my collection organized in a much more attractive and efficient platform has made reading even more convenient and pleasant. I've finally found the CBR made for me!

It was amazing but this latest update is bad and crashes my phone and reset all my preferences and the list of comics is too small. Really upsetting because this was my favourite comic reader and if this isn't fixed, I'll have to uninstall and go elsewhere. I paid for it a couple of years ago but the latest update makes me regret it.
