About Grainstorm

Grainstorm is a Granular Sampler / Synthesizer with Phase Vocoder and Crossynthesis functionality.
It can be used as/for:
- Sound design
- A standalone experimental musical instrument
- Fun.
Features:
- Internal 32-bit processing
- Live recording and offline recording (Disabled in the free version)
- Four audio tracks
- Infinite options to shape the grain. In other places called wavelet synthesis
- 3 LFOs on each track
- Classical effects like Phaser, Flanger, Reverb, Dynamics Compression in studio quality on each track
- Crossynthesis: Filtering output of one track by output of another track on a per grain basis in the spectral domain with different algorithms.
- Time stretching by phase unwrapping.
Phase vocoder effects. (Only a few, simple ones right now. Probably more in the future.)
- Source files of up to seven minutes length in many different audio formats supported. (Free version only permits microphone recordings.)
First use instructions:
1.Some time and patience is required to get into it. Relax. Use good headphones or connect the device to an amp.
2. Upper right power button turns on audio engine which is turned off on startup to save battery.
3. Record something by pressing microphonebutton. (Microphone recording is only intended for testing purposes as the recording quality uses to be poor on android devices. It is recommended to buy the unlocker to get high quality sound from audio files.)
4. Move marker on the right side of the waveform to determine playbackposition.
5. Press playbutton. Should playback sound in original form. (Default setting is four times overlap blackman window at playbackspeed 1.0).
6. Enter settings by pressing the left sidepanel. Try out different grainsizes, densities, playbackspeeds, randomoffset, then grainshapes, then the lfos...
- Short double click on knobs for saved/preferred values.
- Short double click on waveform for loop bounce.
- Waveform zoom with two fingers.

Hardware recommendations:
A more or less fast and modern device with multiple cpu cores as it's multithreaded and 2gb+ of ram is recommended. For example on the Galaxy S3 with 4 cpu cores it performs quiet well. On the Galaxy S2 with 2 cores it performs notably slower.
It is is not recommended for low budget devices.

Fantastic grain synthesis from a developer who really cares about his product. If you are into grain synthesis or just enjoy making odd sounds, this is THE Android app to get.

Great sounding thing, fun to use, but the rotary controls are very buggy, and I can't see the titles on the bottom two as they are of the screen

Says free. Is a super demo with EVERY FEATURE LOCKED. Uninstalled then installed Granular which is completely free and fully features minus the deceptive marketing.

Already 5 stars for what you've done. Needs stability work, obviously. Ability to display in landscape would help a lot!

This is a must have app if your even slightly into sound engineering and such with excellent developer support. Well worth purchasing the unlocker for the extra content. You'd be a fool not to!
