What does it do:

1. Detector: Helps to detect tremors which may be caused by earthquakes. This may give people enough time to take cover as there is some time between P waves and S waves which are the destructive waves.
2. It also helps people who are suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder after the earthquake to distinguish between flashbacks and re-experiencing of the earthquake from real earthquakes. This is really significant because there are numerous after-shocks post an earthquake and that compounded by flashbacks because of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder leave many people uncertain about the reality of their perceptions, sometimes dangerously so. “Did the earthquake really happen or did I imagine it?” Survivors feeling embarrassed about raising false alarms sometimes imagine genuine earthquakes as false ones and do not seek safety. This app helps them get a sense of certainty about the earthquake.
3. Alarm: It also alerts the user via an alarm of the occurrence of an earthquake. This can be particularly important when the earthquake occurs at night and people may wake up too late to take cover or are unable to distinguish whether they are dreaming or an earthquake really is occurring.
4. It sends out sms to upto 3 people whose number you have registered in the app to let them know that you have been hit by an earthquake.
5. There is an abort button which the user can hit after the earth quake alarm has been triggered off if they don’t want the sms to be sent.
6. The sms will give the location of the user on the map to the recipient along with the time
7. Locator – this sms information can be used to locate the person in case of their being trapped. The phone will also give out the location via sms every 15 minutes, so in case the networks are down, the messages will get delivered as soon as the network is back.
8. Emergency Rescue Button- an alert that the user is in danger along with the time and location can be sent by the user to the same recipients and will continue to give out messages every 15 minutes till it is switched off or the phone battery runs out.

What It Does NOT Do:
1. It is NOT a seismograph
2. It is merely an indicator of tremors due to whatever sources, it does not mean that all tremors are earthquakes, for e.g. tremors may be caused by heavy traffic movements, shifting of furniture, etc.
3. It does not detect ALL earthquakes


How To Use:
1. After switching on the app for the first time, please go to the preferences section and feed in your name and the mobile phone number of the persons you would like the alert to go out to in case of earthquake or emergency.
2. Turn on location services on your phone
3. Please switch on the app after putting the phone on a-
(i) Solid, hard surface- do NOT put it on a bed or any other flexible surface or surface which is likely to be shaken otherwise you are likely to get a false alarm
(ii) Turn off the vibrator of the phone for calls and other notifications
(iii) Plug the phone into a power source as it does consume some power
4. In case of false alarm press the “abort send message” button
5. In case of emergency and being trapped do not panic, the phone will send regular sms out every 15 minutes to your contacts. If the mobile phone towers are down, they should start receiving your sms as soon as they are up again.
