백합유치원 홈페이지를 방문하신 학부모님을 환영하며,
하나의 작은 예화로 인사말을 대신하고자 합니다.^^
유럽의 종교 개혁자인 쯔빈글리는 자기와 다른 생각을 가지고 있는 동료 때문에
무척 괴로워했습니다. 어느 이른 아침 그는 스위스의 산 위를 걷다가
영혼을 뒤흔드는 광경을 목격하게 되었지요.
두 마리의 염소가 좁은 산길을 가고 있는데, 한 마리는 위로 오르려 하고
다른 한 마리는 내려오려고 하였습니다. 그러나 길은 겨우 한 마리만 지나갈 정도록 퍽 좁았습니다.
결국 두 마리는 도중에서 만나 오지도 못하고 있었는데,
두 마리는 서로 바라보다가 꼿꼿이 서서 마치 한판 싸움이라도 벌일 듯 보였습니다.
그러나 다음 순간 놀라운 일이 벌어졌습니다.
아래쪽에서 올라가던 염소가 길 위에 눕자 다른 한 마리가 그 등을 딛고 내려가는 것이었습니다.
그리고는 누워있던 염소도 일어나서 제 길로 올라갔습니다.
쯔빈글리는 내려가는 것이 곧 올라가는 길이 된다는 점을 깨달았습니다.
우리는 하루에도 수 없이 많은 선택을 하면서 살고 있습니다.
부모님은 오늘 어떤 선택을 하며 지내셨나요?
나의 여러 가지 생각 중에서 어떠한 선택을 하느냐는 아주 중요한 문제입니다.
왜냐하면 선택에 따라 나타나는 결과는 확연히 다르기 때문이지요...
그렇기 때문에 선택을 잘하기 위해서는 먼저 신중하게 생각해야 합니다.
그리고 어떠한 선택을 하든지 간에 선택한 것에 대한 결과 역시 끝까지 책임지어야 하는 것도 우리의 몫입니다.
사실, “선택” 만은 하기 쉽습니다.
하지만 “올바른 선택” “내가 조금 힘들어도 좋은 결과가 얻어지는 선택”을 하기란 무척 어렵지요...
사랑스런 자녀가 올바른 선택을 하기 위해서는
선택의 상황이 왔을 때 우선 먼저 멈추고, 내가 선택할 수 있는 여러 가지 행동과
그 결과에 대해 생각한 후에 좋은 결과가 생기는 쪽을 선택하여 행동해야 합니다.
이렇게 잠시 멈추고 생각하여 선택하는 습관을 갖게 되면
많은 일들을 지혜롭고 현명하게 대처하는 지혜로운 어린이가 될 수 있습니다.
