마음과 뜻과 정성을 다하여 섬기던 성광교회를 떠나 “너희는 세상의 빛이라”고 말씀하신 주님의 말씀을 토대삼아 세광교회를 세우려 함에 즈음하여 우리 모두의 가슴에 스며드는 감회를 무어라 표현할 길이 없습니다.
1969년 1월 18일 토요일 하오 8시, 땅거미가 대지를 덮은 지도 이미 오래된 늦은 밤 네사람 즉, 임두준, 안형재, 고근수, 안상용장로는 깊어가는 밤도 잊은 채 하나님으로 부터의 응답을 기다렸던 것입니다.
이렇게 하기를 몇시간, 드디어 네 장로들은 하나님의 뜻에 부응하는 교회를 세우기로 합의를 보니 벅찬 감격을 아울러 동녘에 떠오르는 찬란한 햇빛조차 우리들을 축복하듯 눈부시기만 하였습니다. 이렇게 네 장로들이 밤을 지새우면서 새로운 교회를 세우기로 하나님 앞에 서약한 1969년 1월 18일은 우리 모두에게 영원히 잊을 수 없는 세광교회 탄생을 위한 산고의 역사적인 날이기도 합니다.
예수 그리스도가 인간의 몸을 이루어 이 세상에 오신 것을 성육신이라고 한다면 그를 믿는 우리들은 삶의 한 복판에 들어가 그들과 더불어 몸부림을 쳐야 할 것입니다. 교회가 그리스도를 내 구주로 믿고 그를 그리스도로 고백한 사람들의 공동체라고 한다면 여기에 용서와 화해의 복음이 스며있어야 할 것입니다. 그러하거늘 오늘의 교회는 그러하지를 못했던 것입니다. 이러한 면에서 우리들은 심한 갈등과 회의를 느끼면서 하나님의 뜻이 어디에 있는가 하고 찾고 헤매였던 것입니다.
이렇게 생각하던 끝에 드디어 우리들은 믿음의 앞길을 멀리 바라보면서 몽매간에도 잊을 수 없는, 몸담아 섬겨온 성광교회를 떠나 새로운 신앙의 보금자리로써 세광교회를 세우기로 결심했던 것입니다.
오늘 여기 모인 성도 여러분! 우리들이 새롭게 우리들의 신앙의 요람인 세광교회를 세움에 있어서 마음속에 오고 가는 과거의 모든 일들이 주마등과도 같이 명멸하며, 혹은 회상이 되어지는 것을 인간이 가지는 상정으로만 돌리기에는 너무나 가슴 아픈 사연들이 우리들의 가슴속에 자리 잡고 있었던 것입니다. 그러나 우리들은 이것을 잊으려 합니다. 흩어지는 것보다 하나로 뭉치는 것이 강하다는 것을 잘 알고 있는 우리들이 오늘 분립이라는 이 현실을 눈앞에 놓고 하나님 앞에 새로운 신앙 양심을 가지고 첫 제단을 쌓기까지에는 우리들 마음 깊은 곳에서 하나님을 향하여 부르짖는 소리에 귀를 기울이고 계시는 하나님만이 아시는 말 못할 수많은 내용과 곡절들이 깃들여 있었던 것을 우리들은 솔직히 고백하지 않을 수가 없습니다.
우리들이 세광교회를 세움에 있어서 지금까지 몸담아 온 고회를 향한 안타까움으로 점철된 지난날들의 가슴 아픈 이야기들이 우리들에게 있었음을 기억합니다.
섬기는 교회를 어떻게 해서든지 떠나지 않으려는 마음의 각오와 결심과는 달리 떠나지 않으면 안 될 절박한 사유들이 얼마나 많이 우리들을 괴롭혔는지 하나님과 당한 사람만이 아는 마음에 쌓인 상처라 하겠습니다.

우리들은 부족한 인간이기에 갈등도 있사오며, 의견의 충돌도 있었음을 우리 스스로 잘 알고 있습니다.

우리들이 주님의 몸 된 세광교회를 세우면서 감정적인 요소가 있는 게 아니라 보다 차원을 달리하는 높고 깊은 곳에 그 명분과 당위성이 있었습니다.
그러기에 여기 모인 우리들은 무슨 일이 있어도 덕스럽게 나오며 우리들이 손해를 보는 한이 있다 해도 그리스도만은 다시 십자가에 못 박지 않기로 다짐했던 것입니다. 과거의 수많은 한국교회가 그리스도를 위한다는 명분하에 얼마나 많이 그리스도를 욕보였는지 우리들은 잘 알고 있습니다. 하고 많은 교회들이 예수님을 위한다는 이름 아래 싸움을 통하여 서로 헤어지는 모습에서 벌거벗은 그리스도의 그늘진 상혼을 세상 앞에 드러내어 놓았던 것도 우리들은 잘 알고 있습니다.
그러기에 우리들은 빈손 들고 나왔으며 세광교회를 떠나는 장로들이 시무장로, 무임장로를 합하여 여섯 장로님들이며, 그 외에도 많은 중진들이 떠남에 있어서 정든 교인들에게 떠나는 송별의 인사조차 따뜻하게 나눌 수 있는 기회를 얻지 못하면서도 우리들은 교회 평화를 위하여 누구를 원망하거나 탓하려 하지 않았던 것입니다. 그러기에 우리들은 사람에게 지는 것이 주님 앞에 이긴다는 산 증인으로써 떳떳하려 했습니다.
이래서 한국 교회사에서 길이 기억될 다툼이 없이 분립이라는 새 이정표를 세웠다고 자부합니다.
