Ganesha Chaturthi is the Hindu festival celebrated annually on the birthday (re-birth) of Lord Ganesha, son of Shiva and Parvati. Belief hold for Lord Ganesha bestows his own presence on earth for all his devotees during this occasion. This day Shiva declared his son Ganesha as superior to all the gods, barring Vishnu, Lakshmi, Shiva and Parvati.
Ganesha is widely worshipped as the god of fortune, prosperity and wisdom and traditionally invoked on the beginning of any new venture or on any new work. This festival also known as Ganeshutsav ("Ganesha's Festival") is observed in the month of Bhadrpada, starting on the shukala chaturthi.The festival cotinues for some 10 days, ending on Ananta Chaturdashi (fourteenth day of the moon period).
