Senate News

The Senate is the upper house of the Parliament of Cambodia. The Senate is a legislative body, composed of 61 members. 57 of the Senate seats are elected every six years by the commune Councillors from provinces of Cambodia. The King nominates two Senators, and the National Assembly nominates another two, bringing a total to 61 Senators. The Senate performs its duties as determined in the constitution and law in force. The Senate is chaired and presided by the President and assisted by two Vice Presidents

The Senate, along with the National Assembly, combined to form the Nation’s legislative body (The Cambodia Parliament) with each playing an important role in the social democratization process and establishing the rule of law in the Kingdom of Cambodia. An important function of the Senate is in its contribution to the stability of the Nation’s political life, and the role it has in strengthening and improving national reconciliation and helping the country to develop more prosperously.
