Jota Text Editor

At start, it was good. But it crashes. Even after I save the file, specify a path ("save as") and then save work repeatedly using the save button from the editor but window, I can find no trace of my work. This is the worst kind of bug. I've lost my work 3 times on different occasions. I liked it, but I don't trust it anymore and neither should you. Pixel 2 - 8.1

Jota is exactly what I was looking for in a text editor. Very simple, yet also very powerful.

I find a lot to love about this clever, customisable writing app, which I use daily. Put your most-used commands on the button bar at the bottom of the screen, add your choice of background at a choice of different transparencies... and so on. Occasionally when I position the cursor to select text the app will move my cursor several lines down the screen, resulting in my edit going wrong and the sentence I didn't want to edit, becoming nonsensical. Would appreciate this glitch being ironed out. Thanks. NOTE TO OTHER REVIEWERS: it is NOT Aquamarine Networks' fault that this app can't directly save/edit files to/on an SD Card!!! That is down to Google (owners of Android), who removed support for editing files stored on SD cards, back when Android KitKat came out. Wake up, people!! The only app which can do anything to SD card files, is your native File Explorer/"My Files" app, so don't be quite so quick to apportion blame without the facts at hand.

Worked perfectly on other devices, but on Samsung Note 3 updated to Lollipop it does not save on SD card, which is a deal-breaker for me.

Great app with all the features that I needed. Well done and keep it up!

When opened from Dropbox does not save file - does not work with Dropbox files.

The keyboard of Android device ocupy much of the screen. I know that using a tablet, may be fine, but not with a smartphone. A transparency effect, like in GamePad program, will be fine. Or maybe if the keyboard used would be smaller. "Opened the file" message takes to long time in the screen and blocks my letters. A "strike trough" and "bold" for letters, is necesary. Edit : In a text with this program, how many words/lines, makes a A3 page ? A counter for words can be added ? How many words/lines can this program have in a text ?

Great app. I have a few big flat PC files I want to have on my phone, and this is the best way to access them. Although the app says it only supports files up to 1M characters, one of my files is 2.5M chars, and it works, most of the time. Don't know what I'd do without this app.

Great... except for occasional flakiness of core editing functionality. I love the shortcut buttons on the screen, meaning I'm not constantly having to do context long presses for basic operations such as copy paste. This is the sort of commonsense UI which is rarely seen these days. Unfortunately, I've repeatedly seen some flakiness around core editing behaviour with large unicode files... deleting text causes the cursor to jump to an unrelated line. I'll try and figure out a reproduce case.

I've already tried on Android. However, I would like to suggest the line numbers could be larger. It is hard to see, even with big displays. Warm regards, Candido

Not sure if intended and what purpose it has, but part of the text on screen turns orange, usually text within quotes - though it also takes apostrophes as quotation marks. Now, I understand this annoying and worthless - to me at least - feature may look cool to some people, but an option to turn it off would be greatly appreciated. Other than that the app is great, and when editing HTML (my main use for it) it doesn't use the forced auto-line bullshit all HTML editors have (as with colored text, some may love that, I despise it greatly.)

I searched for a text editor that can supposedly edit large text files and came across Jota Text Editor, which I installed and proceeded to try to use to open my large file (43,000 lines of text, not sure how many characters) and it failed miserably. The file was a heavily customized hosts file customized to block a very large number of sites known for viruses/malware/spyware/etc..., this file is the same one I currently use on my Windows system and I decided I'd like to use it on my Android Device, a rooted YCCTeam TV Box (it came already rooted). I needed to modify a few lines in it that contain names for some of my local network computers along with their IP addresses (added them in case NetBios failed to properly ID them). But as stated Jota Text Editor wouldn't open it and just crashed when I tried. So much for being able to handle large text files I guess. I don't recommend this program at all!

They only add is a plug for Jota+ the first time the app is started. Click OK and configure the app. There are lots of choices: light or dark display, font size, default save directory, etc. This will do almost anything Jota+ will do except hold two files open at the same time. Highlights HTML. Good for all sorts of programming as YOU chose the filename extension. For rtf, office, word, etc try Textmaker Free.

Awesome, open source, easy interface, I can see the document to edit it. Some problems with Word header characters but body comes through fine! Thanks!

Ever since Android 8.0 Oreo, Jota Text Editor no longer works. Always crashes when I try to use the app. It was a powerful and fantastic app until Android Oreo.

Jota Text Editor has come a long way, thanks to its developers. A steady progression of features and solid performance characteristics have made both Jota+ Pro and Jota Text Editor my go-to apps for creating and editing documents on my smartphone & tablet. The ability to customize the app is absolutely essential. Its only flaw: An inability to set permissions for direct SD Card saving - but the work-around is simple enough: Save to local memory, then move the file to SD Card.

I had some important notes, and left the app and went back to it, and the card showed my notes... But when I went back to it my notes were gone. No way to recover ... No recover document or journal... I didn't want the document to be on the cloud, but I also don't want it to blow up. An auto save in progress file is an essential feature. It should be on by default.

Yes it can edit large text files but you can't save them anywhere other than internal memory. Half the time when I go to delete a word or even just a letter, the app moves the cursor to some random spot in the document and then starts deleting. Sad to say, but Google Docunents is better

2 minor things: interface outdated and can't select words with tap.

Both on jota and on jota+ , when i try to save to external sd card it sais couldn't save file. Please let me know how to grant it access and i will bump the rating back to 5 stars where it was for 3 years since i started using jota.
