About Kanji Senpai

Kanji Senpai will help you learn Japanese vocabulary and kanji.
By using a spaced repetition system (SRS) you can memorize the different aspects of each vocabulary: meaning, pronunciation, reading, listening, writing, etc.

Included it's the N5 level of the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) vocabulary list and you can download (for free!) all the levels (though N1).

Ah! This app assumes you've already mastered hiragana and katakana.

FEATURES
• Study several vocabulary aspects: reading, listening, writing, meaning and handwrite
• Answers are not so easy so you will really learn that the kanji for "person" is 人 (hito), no 八 (for example)
* In the kanji write aspect, strokes are checked for rightness (there's even a strict mode!)
• Lists can be downloaded and upgraded
• You can a study a session without audio questions (in case you're in a public place with no headphones)
• There are vocabulary translations for English and Spanish
• You can create custom lists

If you are serious about learning Japanese, you can download premium audio packs for the study lists (don't worry, it's cheap!). These audios are professionally audio recorded from a Japanese native teacher that will help you master the vocabulary.

The Audio pack for a list (inapp purchase) will unlock:
• Audio for words
• Audio aspect (you'll be asked for listening questions)
• Kanji handwritten aspect (you'll have to write kanji and kana)
• Ads will be disabled
• Unlimited custom lists

With your support, the application will evolve with new exciting features.

This app is awesome, to put it bluntly. It works as your teacher, gradually introducing new vocabulary and kanji, teaching you how to read, understand, listen and write, by gradually harder testing. It keeps you on your toes by bringing back things you learned a while ago, so everything stays fresh. I will be spending a lot of time with this app. My only gripe is that I wish I'd known that the first audio pack I should buy was the #5 one, and not the huge #1 one I accidentally bought instead. But nvm I'm going to buy all of them anyway.

The best vocabulary app bar none. There are no others that come close to the quality and ease of this learning tool. There are no cute anime girls here, only real japanese presented in an effective way. Even better they've created free options, though they do not come with audio. If I had the cash I would buy every list now. I will settle for what I can afford and support the developer as best I can.

I gave it 5 stars before. Now, having advanced quiet a but, there are 2 evident problems. First and most serious, mistakes. とうとう for example as 等々. But already mailed this one. Second, the new functionality of the background Kanji slowly disappearing. No matter on what device, when I do anything during this animation, strokes get all weird and displaced. Would like an option to deactivate this. Finally, we may get some words. There are a lot though we do not get. How about some content updates?

This is the best Japanese vocabulary app out there. I just wish there was a way to limit the number if reviews that have to be done if I skip a few days. The app does this a bit, but u still have to pull through over 100 reviews to start learning new words.

This is the best kanji app. Read/write/ listen it pronounce. A bit pricey. Would benefit from inverse, white on black drawing style.

Best app to extend your vocabulary. But, if dev gave alternate kanji writing of such words as こちら or ちゃわん, it'd be better. And he also got some pity mistakes like 有名 is said to be "famous" while it's actually "fame" without な suffix. Other na- and no-adjectives presented are actually nouns without な and の at the end. Also sometimes I wish there were sentences to make clear how to use those words properly. Pls, dev, if you ever read it, improve your awesome app.

All it needs is a next button if u wanna just use the the entire template as flashcards instead of actually learning the kanji

A simple and free way to learn kanji. A few minutes a day really helped me kickstart my learning experience. I purchased the audio packs in an instant and learned away. ありがとう、漢字先輩!!

This is the best app BY FAR for learning kanji, vocabulary, handwriting, and pronunciation, all in a single app. Thanks in large part to Kanji Senpai, I passed the JLPT N3 exam in just 2 years of study (while working full-time!), and I'm half-way through the N2 pack as of writing this review. If you supplement daily use of this app with some grammar textbooks and maybe some Japanese news or shows, you're on your way to passing the JLPT. Thanks, Kanji Senpai!

Too fast for me. Said I mastered 54 and am learning 25 kanji in 3 times I tried it. I know maybe 15 of them. Keeps giving me new ones without reviewing the old and then the next day expects me to guess the meaning or hiragana.

Please include Total Time Studied in the app. I don't mean the amount ef time studied per day, i mean the total hours spent on the studying in the app

Good app, disappointed in the audio pack price rise, it was already pretty high for how fractured they are, but 25% more is kinda high

Awesome, my vocabulary has increased dramatically in just 3 months if consistent studying during my train ride.

Show me what pack a word belongs to, then I can know what audio pack to buy! Also make a way to swipe away popups and move to the next character on multi-character questions. And a discounted bundle of all the audio would be nice. Fix some of these and I'll bump my review to a 5.

I absolutely love this, I just wish there were more audio/handwriting flashcards for free. But I think if you have money it's worth paying for it. It has more functionality than Memrise for a much smaller price, no subscription. It's like having Skritter for free. Just one suggestion; I'd really like a way to learn grammar efficiently, so if you add some sentences, phrases, particles etc and a "translate this" game that would be amazing.

I really hate your interface, especially when you want to skip some vocab you're already knowing, so much better others program for a lesser price, I'd like the refund of the voice pack i bought.your app does not also launch in my remix. Refund me the 11.94 euro, I paid, you can't even access the voice pack list

Wonderful app, very useful,I just finished the N5 and I'm gonna start the N4, so it looks like there is a lot left to learn. There is just this one problem: it doesn't test me in the kanji writing although I checked the settings of the app.

Please add translation to separate kanji which are contained in one long word. For example in word bank 銀行 when I finish drowning kanji system should show me under boxes where l put √ or X translation 銀 - silver 行 - move.

The best app I've found for learning kanji and vocabulary. I love the way it tests translation in multiple directions, and handwriting practice is really fun and feels great. And I love that there's no setup - just a single button to start learning. I just wish it would send me notifications a couple of times a day if I haven't met my daily goal.

This app does most of what you need to improve your Japanese vocabulary and knowledge of Kanji. There are some wrong entries, and no context for the words, and other weirdnesses, but it's still the best flashcard apo by far.

Overall I'm happy with this app. I'm definitely learning to read and write kanji. There are a few things that I find frustrating. Often the English definition is vague or used for multiple kanji. This leads to starting to draw one kanji, then realizing I was supposed to draw the other ("round, spherical" for example). It would be really helpful if, at the time a new word is introduced, it was also used in one or more examples. Some words I now know how to read and write, but I still don't really understand what they mean, because the definition covered so many English concepts, or was half parenthetical placeholders (前 for example has a confusing translation). --- One suggestion is to not allow the app to reschedule reviews for you. I did this a few times and wound up being exposed to too many new words before I was ready. --- Another thing to be aware of this that this app includes a large number of cognates that are written in katakana, and some words that are only in hiragana, so you aren't learning straight kanji. This is great for me, but if you are just looking for kanji that might be an issue for you.

This app is very good, I've used it for 2 days for about 4 hours total and I am learning a lot of kanji and word. It's certainly the best one I tried. There are a few improvements that I find could make the app even more useful. 1) Allow an option to input a Kanji/Kotoba in the learning backlog. This is cool to learn kanji and words that you find in a textbook, or NHK Easy, or where-ever, this way I can make sure to learn kanji from my grammar book first for better learning experience) 2) Allow me to tune further the SRS. I'd rather review more cards a little earlier so it's easier and feels more rewarding. Also there should be an option to stop introducing new words, so that I can only review (as mentioned I did really long sessions with it) 3) Improved statistics: i.e. allow to see which words are mastered, etc.
