a bit finicky but this app works with a dongle powered by a 9V battery and only measures alpha radiation. If you didn't buy the dongle from japan then the app doesn't work..duh. Mine confirmed I was getting dumped on by fukushima in Turkey in 2011/2.It also showed friends from Northern Turkey(Black Sea) had 3.86us from Chernobyl It was enough to cause thyroid cancer after 20 years in all of his family.. It also confirmed the arrival of radiation in Australian east coast in 2013 which confirmed the computer models for the Pacific ocean. Rads went from 0.2us to 2.0. the great eastern australian current that year was eerily crystal clear blue...fukushima blue...plankton dead.

Turned on the microwave and opened the door. Radiation spiked then tapered back off.

The Pocket Geiger counter works well after setting it up correctly, which I found to be a little tricky. Measuring at least 10 minutes give an accurate measurement with the Type 3 version. I give it 4 starts because the Android application isn't nearly as good at the IPhone App. I would recommend the Pocket Geiger, its a great tool at the a fraction of the cost of a dosimeter. (Note: this app requires an external dongle)

It detects sound and possibly heat or wind. But it is definitely not a Geiger counter.

This app detects noise. Not radiation. Held directly next to hot source and flatlined.

It detects Ionized UV rsdiation, which can give u cancer and/or kill you, and also other waves like micro, x, or electro magnet, but u have to cover them camera with non seethrough tape

Unsure if it works or not. Sometimes its working sometimes its just noise. Its random

I tried it with my microwave and it went on need this app

works good but only on phones because tablets it does not go into landscape at this point also no updates?? for a long time like to see back ground color change so not only a sound but also a visual warning... would be great

This app will only work with a dongle that can be purchased from Japan or sellers in UK and US. This dongle connects to your phone or tablet over the microphone input. If you want a radiation detector without a dongle, then search for apps that use the camera as an (insensitive) radiation detector. * * * The setup instructions are not very clear. Go to settings, set both thresholds to 1% and trigger to 10 seconds. Start measuring in the "input wave" view. Hold the Pocket Geiger dongle next to a radiation source such as a bag of potassium fertilizer or a smoke-detector ionization chamber. Adjust the settings such that the pulse does not exceed the noise threshold, and crosses the radiation threshold only once. The dongle is not very sensitive to the type of radiation from a smoke detector (americium-241) or potassium, but it is enough to calibrate the thresholds.

watching a video while installing and opened app chose input wave saw movement paused video wave stopped. hmmmm.

The app with the radiation-watch.org dongle works well, however I do have a short wish list: 1) could work with longer than 10 minute count times. 2) would be nice if a .csv file could be created from the count graph for Excel or Open Office spreadsheets. 3) clicking with each count or even an alarm for count rates that the user could preset. The photo diode dongle works well, however is not quite sensitive enough to detect Vaseline glass. Also, it is only sensitive to gamma rays and x-rays.

Nothing special from what I can see, and when you consider the admission of the nsa spying on cell phones. Call me crazy, but last thing I need is another tool that can be easily hacked considering you have to give full permissions to the Mic for this to work. That's just me.

This cant be real when i downloaded it it said there was 2:20 radiation in my house

I bough one to test background radiation. It works! The bad part is the application. If you see the pro version on iPhone it seems to have a lot of options, android version doesn't. The most annoying thing I've found is that sometimes the app crashes on my Galaxy S3. If they fix the bugs and improve the app, it would be a nice tool!

I need an attachment to work it. I wondered how my phone could possibly detect radio active decay. Also: need radioactive material to test.
