About NHK Radio RADIRU*RADIRU
RADIRU RADIRU is NHK's official app available on live streaming and past programs of radio broadcasting through the Internet. Enjoy NHK radio programs, anytime and anywhere.
RADIRU RADIRU supports for smartphones with Android OS 2.3.3 or later, tablets with Android OS 3.0 or later.
The service is free of charge, however, it's strongly recommended choosing the flat-rate data plan.
Live streaming provided:
You can choose 8 local area programs.
- Hokkaido prefecture on Radio 1 and FM
- Miyagi prefecture on Radio 1 and FM
- Kanto area on Radio 1 and Tokyo area on FM
- Chukyo area on Radio 1 and Nagoya area on FM
- Kansai area on Radio 1 and Osaka area on FM
- Hiroshima prefecture on Radio 1 and FM
- Ehime prefecture on Radio 1 and FM
- Fukuoka prefecture on Radio 1 and FM
On Radio 2, provided nationwide programs.
Past programs provided:
You can listen to programs NHK radio broadcast in the past, but some programs are linked in the program website.
- Based on determination by IP address, all programs are available only in Japan.
- Depending on your Internet connection, programs may not be available.
- We don't provide the time signal and EEW (Earthquake Early Warnings) for live streaming because a delay of several seconds will occur.
- We cannot provide some programs due to copyright.

I'm in the UK. When I start the app I get a message saying it doesn't work outside Japan. (It says it in the description too but it's not obvious)

Very good sound quality on 3G with easy to understand screen layout for non Japanese users. This is not a English language application. No English is used within the application and the stream content is generally only Japanese. (The product description was in english though) For use only for the Japanese market like the description says. NTT DoCoMo Galaxy Nexus.
