I have F140-R with v1.07 fw. F15 function is On, F16 is -P-. I can pair it with an Android device, but this app does not connect to piano. Tried on 4(!) devices with android v5 and v6. Was only able to connect via usb. Edit: tried F16 P-N setting. Now app sees the piano (sometimes!), but when I try to connect - error.

Unfortunately I could not make this application work with my F-140R. Updated the piano firmware to version 1.07 and followed all instructions carefully, but the app gives me the error message: "Can not be connected to the piano.[E001]" Tried rebooting the tablet (LG G-Pad v500, android 4.4.2) and the piano but I always get the same error. I also tried with my phone (Samsung SM-G357FZ, Android 4.4.4) and I get the same error. Please Roland, fix this. I have been using Roland products for more than 20 years and I have always praised and recommend your products to other fellow musicians. I still do, but please pay attention to us users complaining about this app. I'm sure you can do better than this.

Does not connect to HP603 and I tried every which way. I only get a flashcard exercise, that gets boring in 30 seconds.

ROLAND makes awesome music instruments, but this app is just bad. I was able to connect only 1 time to my f140r. Now it doesn't work at all. Roland please fix.

Works great when I finally got it going. Required upgrading the piano (HD 603) firmware to 1.12 then performing a factory reset. Without the reset the piano still wasn't discoverable via Bluetooth. Hope this helps others.

IF YOU ARE FRUSTRATED BY CONNECTION PROBLEMS, READ THE LAST PARAGRAPH First thing, the app itself should be the thing to walk me through how to use it. The description portion of the app shouldn't be where I find out that a direct USB connection is required for most functions to work. Second, a direct USB connection is required for most functions to work. Seriously. Without that USB connection, you only have access to the "flash cards," which are really just a thing that plays a tone and you try to identify it. Don't despair though, go to Amazon and search for this: "Micro USB Male to USB A Female Adapter". You'll be presented with a little dongle that'll allow you to plug a normal sized USB cable into your tablet/phone's USB Micro plug. Get that doohickey, plug everything in and you should be golden

**YOU NEED FUNCTION 16 SET TO N & P** First upgrade your Roland F-140R to 1.07 firmware. Ours was straight out of the box and was well out of date. Select function 15 turn to On Bluetooth. The only way I could get it to connect to an Android device was to have Function 16 set to P & N. The instructions state you can have Function 16 set to any of the settings but this doesn't seem to apply to Android devices. I have left this on the review page because it has taken us nearly 2 days to get it to connect.

Set F16 to P and N, then on android phone connect directly using the app, not through the phone's Bluetooth menu.

All I could do is flash cards! Such a game I've played. Why does the screenshots tell me I could try this, plus rhythm, plus digiscore lite, plus songs but ME ON THIS ANDROID CAN'T? I wanted this because of the less, crazy games I have. But why does a game like this act like that? I was wondering, "Oh, so they have a FULL VERSION?" They don't. See how foolish that is? It's free, but still doesn't want me to do this. It would've been fun if we could do all that without having to rate. I wish I could rate it NO stars! Update it THIS WAY! please?

The firmware has updated to v1.02. It shows "Preparing Data", and then "Can't connect to the piano [E001]". I try to use Bluetooth and USB, get the same result.

The music shop just sold me a wifi dongle for my HP508 but apparently that only works with the iOS version of this app. I hate Apple and everything it stands for - why does Roland continue to treat Android like a second rate platform. Please add wifi support for the Android app too.

Such a shame people cannot make this work, and therefore write such disappointed comments..! --- It works on an android tablet (android version 4.4.4) after installing the latest firmware on the piano. Search for FP-30 system update version (1.02 of may 2016) by Roland. --- Unfortunately vendors dont tell to do this. It should be written in bigger fontsize on this installation page too... --- Bluetooth a problem? I payed only 160 euro for my samsung tablet and bluetooth works with my fp-30 from meters distance... --- The Rythm features need wired usb connection on android, and the fp30 only got the masterpeaces samples (too advanced for me). that s a pity. But obviously, Midi is working on Android with the fp-30, that s nice!

Not work at all even with IOS ipad 3 or iphone 7.... I spent a lot money on USB interfaces: - USB C to USB A femelle to connect Android Smartphone (Xiaomi 5). - USB B adapter for Android smartphone and IOS ipad/iphone. - USB kit for Ipad. - Wifi Adaptor Onkyo to connect via Ad-hoc. All those adapter do not give results. Only one give me a message "RD Series" in the device selector with USB kit for Ipad, but can not connect also with error message [001].... Crap application... For information, I connected with RD-800 stage piano. This is the latest piano and the standard for the communication.

After several hours effort, installing software patch on the computer. Fiddling with bluetooth settings I go this to work once!. I played a couple of songs and starting trying to look at the score of one (almost too small to read unfortunately on my 10 inch screen). The app then lost the connection to piano and I haven´t been able to get it back despite lots of fiddling with setting and rebooting. My tab is a super-robust Nexus 7 that works with almost everything so I think the problem is with the app. ... After some work I have managed to fix this. Basically you should *not* associate your tab with the piano as a bluetooth device in the main settings. ... The app is still quite cranky but let´s see if we have more crashes. The app looks like it has some good basic functions but it really needs an update and perhaps - given the all the negative comments - some sign from Roland that they want to improve the experience. Still it´s good to have an android program finally. This is with my F-140 roland piano by the way which is an otherwise excellent piece of kid. I will shortly try to connect with usb rather than bluetooth. Maybe I´ll have some more joy.

======================================================== The app is not compatible with some digital pianos (my F130 R is not compatible). As it's not only annoying, it is not understandable (don't they could simply make a porting of the "old" app for iOS on android?) I am giving a very negative judgment.

Always gives me a "cannot be connected to the piano [E001] when trying to connect to my F-140R (firmware 1.04). Function F15 is set to ON and F16 is set to -M-. My tablet is running Android 5.0.1. Please fix as soon as possible. --- update: connection works on Lenovo Tab 2 A1070F but not on Lenovo YOGA 2 1050F, both are running Android 5.0.1 - please fix

The app is not working and totally destroyed the bluetooth on my tablet. Bluetooth cannot be turned off anymore, the HP603 takes the place of the keyboard, impossible to type anything on the tablet. Not only it does not works, it killed my tablet keyboard. Huge FAIL!

Working nice with my phone and Roland FP-30. Although the rhythm section is greyed out and I can't use it, everything else works great. Be sure to update the FP-30 firmware to the latest version ;) Btw the FP-30 is a great piece of equipment.

I thought that piano partner 2, was an upgrade of piano partner, but it does not support the previous digital piano which was supported by the first piano partner. So it is a new app, not an upgrade from the first one.

It's not connecting to LX-7. It can attach the midi and see the LX7 but when you select LX7 is dropped back to home screen without connecting. Android marshmellow Nexus 6.

Synthesia does this without a problem, Roland can't. Seriously?

Y70%
by Y####:

Just doesn't work. Tried every possible setting against my F-140R, without any success. Latest piano software version (1.07 currently) with up to date Android app. It's a shame Roland advertises the Piano to work with this app. Another Bluetooth Midi App in the Play Store could find my Piano immediately and was able to produce sounds on it. Guess the fault is on the app's side. Roland, please fix this, or stop claiming it works.

Y70%
by Y####:

Please fix the Rhythm Tab to work over Bluetooth. The app provides much-needed visual control over Roland digital pianos like the FP-30, which otherwise have very cumbersome non visual controls. It's now a whole lot easier to make quick instrument changes and volume adjustments between layered sounds etc, and wirelessly at that! However, the Rhythm tab does not work with Android devices over Bluetooth. :( Still, a must-have for those who own Roland digital pianos with Bluetooth.
